Chapter 6: Train

Chapter 6: Train

Charles took out his spear from his Eternal Storage*. It was a soul bound weapon named ‘Acuti’. It had sharp blades at both ends even capable of cutting through bones of high ranked monsters. Entering the simulation room, he started his training.

Approximately 5% of all humans, between the age of nine to twelve would receive powers from the Eternal Realm and become an awakener. If both the parents of a child were awakeners, then they had a better chance of becoming one. Becoming an awakener basically meant being marked by the Eternal Realm Master. These awakeners could enter the Eternal Realm at the age of sixteen and have their own Territory and become a lord or serve under the lord of a Territory. But not all awakeners were the same, they could be classified in five major grades.

A grade one awakener could enter the Eternal Realm but that was all. They didn't receive any additional benefits. They were mostly used as foot soldiers. A grade two awakener, along with being allowed to enter the Eternal Realm, also had their bodies evolved to a certain extent with higher endurance, stamina and strength. However, only grade three awakeners and above could be described as something entirely different from normal humans. Apart from having a better body evolution, they would also receive an Eternal Storage space where they could bind their soul weapons and store things that were accessible only to them. They could also soul bound* a monster. If a grade three awakener was lucky, they could also receive an ability.

However, the true rulers of humanity were fourth and fifth grade awakeners. At this grade, they had even better evolution, larger Eternal Storage space, could soul bound higher tiered monsters but most importantly were guaranteed to have an ability. Fifth grade awakeners could also receive abilities that could evolve.

When a human turned into an awakener, stars would shine over their head, indicating their grade. In his eleventh year, Charles, an orphan, a nobody living in the Rags, had shown five stars over his head. As soon as this news reached the Warammar estate they had sent people to capture him and subsequently adopted him into the family. And so, a nameless nobody like him had become part of one of the strongest families in the world, being swayed into politics and schemes he had little understanding of.

Charles had wondered, a lot many times, what would have happened if he had never awakened. But every time he had come to the same conclusion: He could never live without this power, it had changed him in innumerable ways and if the price was to live among backstabbing snakes and sharks every day, he would gladly pay it.

Taking a deep breath, Charles clicked some buttons on the control panel, inside the simulator. Instantly his surroundings changed to a plain field of grass. The sun was at its peak basking everything in its light. A small lake and a few trees could be seen in the distance. A breeze went past and Charles could feel his clothes russell.

Five spearmen and archers spawned about ten meters from Charles. The spearmen wore plated armor for high defense, while the archers wore cloth armor for mobility. Each soldier had a different face and body build. The only thing common among all of them was their mutual intent to take Charles down.

The spearmen started moving towards Charles, while the bowmen drew their bows back. As if controlled by a single entity all five of them released their arrows at the same time. The projectiles were pretty fast, homing in on Charles within a second. Suddenly Charles' eyes turned to a deeper shade of gold. He bent to his left successfully dodging two arrows. Charles moved his right arm a little, making the third arrow pass in between his right arm and armpit. Charles whipped his head to the left and could hear an arrow passing by his right ear. As for the last arrow he moved his spear in a quick motion and simply deflected it. With a determined face, Charles started running towards the spearmen.

That was his ability: ‘The Sixth Sense’, apart from giving his eyes their unique colour it also allowed him to sense the direction and trajectory of each and every attack aimed towards him.

As soon as Charles came into range, the first spearman attacked. Charles ducked and thrust his spear at the spearman's knee, shattering it and immobilising him immediately. Two spears, one from the left and other from the right came at Charles' throat. Charles parried the left spear, increasing his strength he forced it into the direction of the other spear, effectively deflecting it. The left spearman lost his footing due to the unexpected movement. Charles quickly capitalised on it and thrust his weapon in the opponent’s neck. A third attack came from behind, Charles ducked at the last possible second and thrust his spear upwards, behind him. The weapon passed through the midsection of the guard, easily cutting through his armor and turning him into particles. The first spearman with a shattered knee, stood up and limped towards Charles. Seeing two of their brethren taken down, the remaining warriors decided to be more cautious. They surrounded Charles with the hopes of attacking him at the same time from different directions. The archers who had been searching for an opening, finally found it and started shooting. Charles ducked under the arrows and rolled towards one of the spearmen. Coming up on one knee he thrust the spear into the soldier's midsection. The spearman was so surprised, he couldn't defend himself and lost his life. Charles yanked the spear to the left, with inhuman strength. The blade passed through the dead spearman's body and proceeded to make a clean cut from the waist to the shoulder of the spearman to his left. With the same momentum, Charles rolled forward dodging the third spearman's attack. An arrow came hurling from behind, the Warammar prince went on all fours and dodged it. The spearmen tried to attack him in this vulnerable position, but due to his injured knee he couldn't move fast enough. Charles rolled towards him and thrust his spear up, effectively ending his life. With only the long rangers remaining, Charles inched towards them while dodging their projectiles. Once he entered into spear range, he proceeded to make quick work of the archers.
