Chapter 2: Days to come

Chapter 2: Days to come

Charles walked through the streets of the academy at a relaxed pace, but his mind was anything but that. Today was the 24th of Dezzer*, in exactly seven days the gates of the Eternal Realm* would be opened and every eighteen-year-old who had Awakened*, will be forced to enter. The realm would divide these teenagers in groups of thousand and each group would have to go on a journey of war and conquest against other races, to carve out their own territory. Only once they passed the initial trial set by the Realm, would they be allowed to form a temporal link* and come back to earth. As their territories progressed more and more facilities would be unlocked, such as transfer of resources from Earth to the Eternal Realm and recruitment of more soldiers.

Each and every territory has a lord which was selected through a voting process at the start. This voting was carried out by the Eternal Realm Master*. No one knew who or rather what the Eternal Realm Master was, but it acted as a system sending important notifications about their territories to the Awakened, acting as mediator when a treaty between one or more territories was to be made and more or less looking over the whole of Eternal Realm.

“Shhrk?”, Eaglis who was on Charles shoulder, asked its master.

“Nothing buddy, just thinking about the days to come.” Charles absentmindedly replied, patting Eaglis on its feathered head.

Wearing his Warammar family uniform which consisted of plain white pants and a knee length white tunic with gold buttons, Charles could be easily recognised among the crowd of people. Combined with the white creature on his shoulder, it was easy to pinpoint his identity as the third Prince of the Warramar family.

As he passed by, many of his fellow students, hailing from Dhamalan bowed or saluted towards him. Charles responded to all of them with an indifferent nod. He would have much rather worn the normal THAMA uniform, worn lenses over his eyes and hid Eaglis inside a bag, but there were only a few days remaining before the first campaign and he had to make his presence known.

Just then one of the the earshells* placed behind his right ear started beeping. He pressed on it and was greeted by a pleasant voice, “I'll enter through the northern gate in five minutes. Where are you?”

“I'll be there to receive you, princess.”, Charles said before cutting the call.
