Dastarn recognized that these were not ordinary training swords but rather special ones, and he didn't want to burden Gideon.
However, Gideon insisted, explaining that they would only go to waste if they weren't put to use.
Reluctantly, Dastarn accepted the swords, having no choice but to yield to Gideon's insistence.
"Hmm," Dastarn pondered for a moment.
"Let me have a look," he requested, reaching out for the pair of training swords Ryn was inspecting.
Without uttering a word, Ryn handed them over, observing in anticipation. As Dastarn held the training swords, they appeared more like small swords or daggers in his hands.
Whenever Ryn held them they were dual swords for his size but in Dastarn’s hand that held a great sword a lot, they were nothing but just light dagger like short swords.
"Pay close attention. Watch my every movement," Dastarn instructed with a smile, poised to begin the demonstration.
"Okay," Ryn nodded, eager to observe and learn.
Dastarn stepped away from the tree and found a place where he could move freely.
At first he waved the weapons in his hands around and got an understanding of their feeling in his hands.
And then he did a quick and precise thrusting motion with both “daggers”, aimed at the opponent's vital areas.
It was swift but also something Ryn could follow.
“That’s double thrust,” Dastarn explained.
“Then followed by a cross block.”
Dastarn then assumed a defensive stance, with both feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
Keeping the body balanced and ready to move.
“As the opponent launches an attack, cross your arms in front of your body, with the daggers forming an "X" shape to intercept and block the incoming strike.” Dastarn kept explaining while showing.
“Position the crossed daggers to meet the opponent's weapon or arm, aiming to redirect or absorb the force of the attack away from your body.
Maintain agility and footwork, allowing you to adjust your position and angle the daggers for effective blocking.
After successfully blocking the attack, swiftly transition into a counter-attack by launching a follow-up strike with one or both daggers.
Exploit any openings in the opponent's defense while they are off-balance or recovering from their attack”
Ryn kept listening and absorbing everything his father was saying.
After that Dastarn repeated the two techniques of attacking with either one or both daggers and then blocking them for two more times.
“Now let me tell you something about weapons.” Dastarn now approached and sat across Ryn.
“Ok.” Ryn replied, eager to learn more.
"A weapon serves two primary purposes: attack and defense.
Most weapons possess the capability to fulfill both roles simultaneously, even though some are specifically designed for offense while others for defense.”
Dastarn continued.
Regrettably, many people fail to acknowledge this and create a distinct division between weapons intended for attack and those intended for defense.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
As a result, those who believe this to be true often choose to carry multiple weapons.
Undoubtedly, wielding two weapons proves more efficient than attempting to master both offensive and defensive techniques with a single weapon.
Achieving proficiency in such a comprehensive aspect of weapon usage demands considerable time and dedication.
Nonetheless, it remains crucial to grasp the fundamental movements and master them when wielding a weapon.
"Now, I have spoken at length. Let me demonstrate something for you to remember and incorporate into your regular training, particularly focusing on footwork.”
‘although it would be hard for him to learn it now, he should at least be able to observe it for now’
Dastarn knew the technique he was about to show his son wasn't something he could learn right away from just observing the demonstration.
But for now he wanted Ryn to be at least familiar with it, and maybe he could try mimicking it later on.
Ryn nodded, observing.
Dastarn adjusted his grip on the short sword in his left hand and assumed a firm stance.
He positioned his left foot slightly forward, bent his knees, and launched a rapid attack with his right hand.
As he did so, he slid his left leg ahead of the other, seemingly advancing, while his upper body remained stationary.
Suddenly, his upper body swiftly shifted from one position to another.
Repeating the sequence, he appeared to stand in front of an imaginary opponent one moment, then attacked from the side while swiftly moving past them.
In the blink of an eye, he positioned himself behind the assumed opponent.
Throughout these maneuvers, his upper body seemed to materialize out of thin air, while his lower body glided smoothly over the grass.
When facing an opponent, it is crucial to maintain sharp focus on their every movement, anticipating their next action and preparing a suitable defense or countermeasure.
By observing even the slightest shifts in their lower body and using peripheral vision, one can detect and react to sudden attacks, either by evading or blocking them.
However, when an opponent's upper body remains motionless and disappears from one's peripheral vision, only to launch an attack from an unexpectedly close range, it becomes highly dangerous.
Fundamental movements are essential for mastering a weapon, as they serve as the foundation for the development of advanced skills and procedures.
These basic techniques, such as grip, stance, footwork, and body placement, help maintain stability, control, and accuracy, enabling precision in strikes and defenses.
Learning these basic moves improves coordination and muscle memory, which are crucial in demanding combat situations.
Additionally, it promotes discipline and attention, demanding commitment, patience, and attention to detail.
However, fundamental movements are not the end of skill growth.
Building on these foundations allows for exploration of more complex approaches, strategies, and tactics.
Without a solid understanding of the fundamentals, advancement in weapon mastery may be slowed.
As an example, Dastarn, a man who switched to the great sword as his primary weapon without prior experience, became one of the two finest hunters in the village and the unrivaled expert in wielding that particular weapon.
This accomplishment can be attributed to Dastarn's belief that mastering the fundamental use of at least one weapon can significantly enhance one's skills and make it easier to handle unfamiliar weapons.
“What do you think son? Where you able to follow my moves?”.
Dastarn approached Ryn after he was done demonstrating and asked him if he was able to see and follow his demonstrations.
“Not all of it. Just the beginning.”
Ryn, who kept eyes open and thought he would definitely learn something new
from his father, was at a loss for the first time.
“Hm! Ok I will do it again. so watch carefully.”
‘I expected much, but why did i thought i will hear different answer’
Even though Dastarn didn’t utilize any Aura, it was still too advanced of a technique for a child of Ryn’s age to fully learn from just seeing it once. But Dastarn somehow felt his expectations unmatched.
Maybe because he was used to seeing his son achieve things which could be said are too early for his age, but maybe not so much on martial arts.
“Hmm” Ryn nodded his head, already absorbed into the mood. Waiting to fully grasp it this time.
Previously when his father started demonstrating, he thought it would be easy for him to follow it all. Just like how his father “showed off” his skills during their morning workouts. Unfortunately it wasn’t this time.
Something was different about it this time, something new that he hadn’t seen his father demonstrate before.
It started easy and smooth at the beginning but at some point his father got serious and he saw him disappear from one point to just appear on the other side. His eyes were unable to keep up.
‘Just in case.’
Ryn closed his for a moment and quickly tried to move to the “Dream Realm” as he called it.
He found himself in the familiar but slightly creepy place and he quickly moved to the side where the huge mirror was located.
“Hey you there?”
Ryn asked in the direction of the mirror. Expecting to maybe receive an answer this time.
But no answer came, just the creepy silence like last time. And the mirror looking back at him with no reflection and nothing where the Enigma was supposed to be.
‘It is good it’s not watching. It is better this way.’
Ryn thought that maybe if he used the help of the Enigma and let him memorize the technique, he could later replay it in the mind realm and learn it faster.
Only to be grateful it is not there, or he would have an even harder time if it learned something new before their clash.
“Here i go”. Dastern said with a smile on his face when he saw his son was ready.
He paused for a moment before he could begin, noticing his son preparing to give his full focus, ready to absorb every move this time. Seeing the determination in his son's eyes not to miss a single detail, he commenced.
