Chapter One

As I was walking across the college campus, I didn't expect the end of the world to happen. But as I was walking, I noticed that the bright and sunny sky overhead was darkening. Then the rest of the world started darkening until everything was completely black. Glancing around, I noticed that I was in some kind of black room or something. Before I could investigate further, a weird, translucent blue screen popped up in front of me.

[Congratulations! Your world has been chosen as the next host of the Great Game! Become stronger by choosing one of the Class Cards in front of you!]

When the blue screen dissolved, it was replaced by strange cards floating all around me. A timer started counting down, indicating that I had a limited time for choosing. Looking around, I saw that the cards all different pictures and names on them, as well as different numbers of stars. Shrugging my shoulders, I figured it wouldn't hurt to choose one and that it wouldn't really matter what I chose. Reaching out, I grabbed a random card and the rest all dissolved into nothingness. The black room then faded away, leaving me back where I had been before. Glancing at my hand, I saw that I really was holding the card. It then dissolved as well and a blue screen popped up once again.

[Congratulations! You chose the Unique Class ! Only one can exist in the Great Game at any time, and you're it!]

I wonder what's so special about this Class that only person on Earth can have it, I thought. Then, realizing the similarities between what was happening and some of the video games I played on occasion, I decided to see if I had a Status Screen.

"Status Screen," I said. As soon as those words were spoken, a yellow translucent screen appeared before me with all kinds of information on it. I read it slowly, not wanting to miss anything.

In fact, I then pressed on , hoping that would give me more in depth information. The Nature's info screen then popped up, giving me exactly the information I had wanted.

Okay, that sounds pretty cool, I thought. Looking around, I saw another guy standing not too far away from me, but he seemed to be paralyzed by shock or something. No matter how long I watched him, he didn't move at all. He just stood there, staring into space. I waved my hand in front of his face a few times, but there was no response. Maybe he's going through the same Class Card selection process I just finished.

Shrugging my shoulders, I turned to walk away. But right as I did so, the man behind me let out a loud gasp and there was a sound like something cutting through air. Turning back around, I saw that he was no longer staring at the air and was now swinging a one-handed longsword with his right hand and held a small shield in his left hand. After a few moments, he finally noticed me standing in front of him.

"O-oh, hi there, my name's Victor, b-but you can just call me Vic for short," he stammered a bit as he spoke. He tried to hold his hand out for a handshake before remembering the sword he was holding.

"Hey, my name's Dexter, but you can call me Dex if you want," I introduced myself. "I was curious about a few things regarding all of this. I know this may seem a bit random, but I promise this question has precedence. Do you consider yourself fairly average physically or intellectually?"

"W-what? Oh, yeah, I-I guess so," Vic stammered.

"Mind telling me what your stats are?" I asked. He shook his head and read them aloud to me. The only stat he had that was over five was his Int stat, which was eight. I realized then how much higher my stats must be compared to other people, including even the stats that didn't involve my physical abilities. However, I didn't share this with Vic and instead just said the basics, which was that I wanted to compare stats. He then asked what my stats were, but I brushed off his question and changed the topic to our Classes.

"Oh! For my C-class, I chose ," he replied. "I-it seemed like a nice safe b-bet."

"Hey, whatever works for you, man," I told him. "Honestly, I just chose my Class at random."

"W-well, it could still be a good one," Vic reassured me. "M-mine's just rated two stars, but it has good offensive and d-defensive capabilities. How many stars did yours h-have?"

"Mine didn't actually have any stars on the card. It just had the word 'Unique' on the bottom of the card instead. It was a Class called . The blue messages said that I was the only person in the world to have this Class and that only one person could have it at a time."

"Oh, that s-sounds pretty cool. What exactly does do?"

"I haven't actually figured that out yet."

"Well, j-just try shouting out one of your Skill n-names. That should tr-trigger it."

"Okay, I'll try that. !"

However, nothing happened when I shouted the Skill name. Embarrassed, I decided to check my Status Screen to figure out what I was missing. When I read info page, I realized why it didn't do anything.

[Type: Passive]

[Max Level: 1]

[Max Level Effects:

"Ah, guess I should try another Skill instead," I muttered.

"W-what? Why didn't the Skill work?" Vic asked.

"It was a Passive Skill, that's why nothing happened. No need to worry about it," I assured him. "Here, let's try this one instead. !"

As soon as I said the words, I felt a little weaker and a bright flash of light appeared before us. It died away and revealed a clearly female figure small enough to stand on the palm of my hand. The tiny figure had fiery auburn hair, glittering green eyes, pointy ears, and a sharp nose. However, her most distinguishing features were the fluttering translucent butterfly wings on her back. She rubbed her eyes a couple times before speaking to me.

[Well, hello there! My name is , and I'm the queen of fairies! You got pretty lucky for me to become your first familiar.] She said with an arrogant smirk plastered across her face. The fairy then fluttered into the air and landed on my shoulder before sitting down, clearly making herself comfortable. Mab then yawned and laid down, which was followed by what sounded like snoring.

"Let's see, can I check her Status Screen?" I muttered. Checking my own Status Screen, I quickly found her under the Familiars tab. Clicking her name, her Status Screen opened up before me, just like I was hoping it would.

"Hmm, seems like she'll be pretty handy to have around," I thought aloud.

[Well of course! I'm Queen Mab, the most beautiful and powerful fairy queen to ever live!] She exclaimed.

"Oh, I see you're awake from your nap now," I said.

[Yeah, I just wanted to rest for a moment. Traveling to another dimension can really take it out of you.] She explained.

"Oh, okay, I see. I guess that's fair," I replied. "Here, let's see if I can summon any more familiars. [Summon Familiar]!"

However, there was no flash of light this time. I shouted it a few more times, but still nothing happened. I opened up my Status Screen, but before I could check the Skill's info, I saw that I missing some of my SP. Now even more curious, I decided to open up the Skill's info page.

[]

[Description: The is never without help since they can just summon more familiars when they need to, meaning they always have some kind of backup. Cannot be upgraded]

[SP Cost: 50 SP per use]

[Cooldown: 48 hours]

"Ah, I see, the Skill's on cooldown. But isn't 48 hours a bit much? That means I'll have to wait two days before I can summon another familiar," I complained.

[Sorry, them's the brakes! are really powerful since they can summon familiars to fight for them, but they also have downsides to go with it, such as high costs and long cooldowns.] Mab explained. [However, you could try using [Create Familiar] to make yourself a familiar! While you actually don't have any control or say in the familiar that gets made, the System designs everything about to fit you perfectly, so it always turns out well!]

"If you say so," I replied. "Guess I might as well try it out then. [Create Familiar]!"

There was a flash of bright light, signifying that the Skill worked. My new familiar had been created.
