Orion stirred, his eyes fluttering open to take in the dimly lit room around him. Everything seemed so much larger than he remembered, and he found himself lying on a soft bed with a musty scent. He tried to sit up, but his limbs felt strangely weak and uncooperative. Panic began to bubble up inside him as he realized something was very, very wrong.
He looked around, noticing the sun shining brightly through the cracks in the wooden shutters. His body felt different, small and weak, and everything around him appeared much larger than it should have been. The furniture was enormous, and he could barely see over the edge of the bed he was lying on. He also noted the worn blanket covering him, suggesting the family's humble circumstances.
As the fear and confusion intensified, a gentle voice whispered in his ear, "Calm yourself, Orion. All is well."
Orion's racing heart slowed a little, and he felt some of the fear lift away. He tried to focus on the voice, but it seemed distant and ethereal, like a fading memory. Struggling to make sense of his situation, Orion tried to recall his past, but everything seemed hazy and distant as soon as he tried.
The door to his room creaked open, revealing a woman who entered with a warm smile on her face. "Good morning, Orion," she said softly, her eyes filled with affection. "How are you feeling today?"
Orion hesitated before responding, still struggling to comprehend what was happening. "Who are you?" he asked cautiously, his voice sounding tiny and unfamiliar to his ears.
The woman's smile wavered for a moment, concern etched into her features. "I'm Elena, your mother," she replied, her voice soothing despite the uncertainty in her eyes. "You must still be feeling a bit under the weather from your fever."
Orion watched as Elena moved around the room, tidying up and opening the shutters to let in more light. As she worked, he couldn't help but feel a sense of disconnect, as if she were a stranger despite her claim of being his mother. This feeling only deepened as he spent more time with Elena and the man named Gregor, who claimed to be his father.
Both Elena and Gregor appeared tired and worn, their faces etched with lines of hardship and stress. Their conversations were strained, their love for each other evident but marred by the weight of their troubles. Orion could sense the cracks in their marriage and their financial struggles.
As he tried to adapt to what was happening and surroundings, Orion was plagued by fragmented memories from a previous life as a man named Jake. These memories were fleeting, however, and he struggled to piece together the larger truths of his former existence but whenever he tried to think about them a fog seemed to cover them in his mind.
Throughout the day, Orion observed his new parents and their interactions with each other and with him. While he could see the love they had for one another and for him, their relationship seemed strained by the constant worry and stress they faced. He knew they were his parents, but the emotional connection he should have felt was absent, leaving him feeling detached and disoriented.
Orion's thoughts were interrupted by a prompt that appeared in his mind's eye:
[Welcome, Orion, to your new life. In this world, you will find that you have been granted a unique power all of your own to someone so young. Just think about wanting to know more and you shall see. As promised I have given you the chance, now its time to keep your promise]

What promise? How did I get here!
Orion called out in his mind but no answer came even after waiting. With no other ideas, he tried what he voice suggested:
Who am I
Name Orion Class (Empty) Level 1 Strength 4 Dexterity 4 Intelligence 4 Wisdom 4 Constitution 4 Charisma 4 Abilities (Unnamed)
Orion quickly realized that his physical and mental abilities were likely below average for someone his age, but he also sensed that he had the potential to improve them with hard work and dedication. There was one that he had and instant, unfavorable view of:
Charisma, useless. Let's just focus on the rest
As the day wore on, Orion became increasingly curious about the unique, unnamed ability he seemed to possess. This passive ability allowed him to progress faster in his training than others or it seemed, giving him an advantage he desperately needed in this unfamiliar world. Intrigued by this power, he vowed to develop his skills and abilities to their fullest potential.
As evening approached, Orion's thoughts turned to the challenges he would face in this new world. He recognized that he couldn't rely on his “new” parents to provide him with the opportunities and resources he needed to reach his potential, and he knew that he would need to carve out his own path.
He couldn't help but reflect on how unusually calm and accepting he felt, considering he had died and been reborn into an entirely new world and body. He wondered if the mysterious voice or spirit that had guided him thus far might have had something to do with his surprising composure.
Orion devised a plan to train every day and develop his unique abilities, no matter how difficult the road ahead might be. As he contemplated his future, Orion couldn't shake the feeling that he was destined for something greater than the life he had been thrust into.
As Elena tucked Orion into bed, she noticed him staring at the necklace she wore around her neck. "You like this, huh?" she said softly, taking it off and handing it to him. "It's just an old necklace from our family, but I don't really know much about it. I wear it because it makes me feel a little less plain."
Orion took the necklace from his mother and examined it. It was a simple piece, with a modest chain and a small, unadorned pendant. There was an ancient, weathered quality to the metal, as if it had been passed down through many generations. There was nothing extraordinary about it, but for some reason, he felt drawn to it.
"Here, you can have it," Elena said, smiling gently. "Maybe it'll bring you good luck." She kissed him on the forehead and left the room, closing the door behind her.
Orion looked over the necklace in his hand, confirming that it really was just a plain, old piece of jewelry. He felt a strange connection to it, though he couldn't explain why. As he lay in bed, still holding the necklace, he decided to put it on. The moment the chain settled around his neck, he felt a soft pulse from the necklace synchronized with his heartbeat. Then, he felt another, stronger pulse. He didn't know what to make of it, but the pulses continued, growing in strength and frequency.
The necklace began to emit a faint glow, which gradually increased in intensity. Orion watched in awe and confusion as the light grew brighter and brighter until it was nearly blinding. As the pulses became more powerful, he felt a strange sensation building within him, as if some unknown force was trying to break free.
The light enveloped everything in the room, and suddenly, the room went dark and with that darkness, Orion disappeared.
