Ken stood at the edge of the Battle Royale Dome, the excitement coursing through his veins like a thunderous storm. The atmosphere buzzed with raw energy and anticipation, a cacophony of cheers and shouts enveloping the arena. He had been training hard with Koa the past month and half. Together, they had faced fierce opponents, overcoming challenges that tested their resolve every step of the way.
Today was no ordinary day, though; today was their first battle royale with three other trainers. The extra participant added an extra layer of difficulty onto the already chaotic fight. Unfolding beneath the expansive metallic ceiling of the Dome, the ground pulsated with vibrant colors and holographic illusions that created a dizzying landscape.
The battle began ferociously, with Koa leaping into action. Ken expertly commanded Koa to use Bulk Up, the Mankey’s muscles rippling as it prepared for the first strike. Ken’s opponents, an energetic girl with a moody Gyarados, a gloomy trainer wielding a feral Persian of the Alolan variety, and a bookish boy with an absent minded Drifloon, were no slouches. But Ken was determined; he wasn’t going to back down now.
After dodging Gyarados’s rushing Hydro Pump, Ken guided Koa into position behind the Persian, calling for Drain Punch. Koa’s fist ignited with energy as it struck the feline, draining the energy from his foe and invigorating itself in the process. The crowd roared, a surge of adrenaline fueling both Ken and Koa.
Koa quickly switched to Rockslide, sending a barrage of rocks crashing down on the Gyrados and Driftblin, who were entangled with each other. The duo failed to dodge in time and took the hit, both landing hard on the ground. The Persian took this opportunity and launched a Thunderbolt at the downed Pokemon. A yellow beam of energy struck the Gyrados, getting a massive roar of pain in response. That’s when Drifloon floated up, using Ominous Wind to throw a blast of energy across the field, with both Koa and Persian quickly leaping to the side to avoid the attack. As the ghostly energy abated, Ken, sensing weakness, commanded Koa to use Shadow Claw, the dark energy slicing through the residual gloom and striking the balloon Pokémon directly.
With the surge of skill and teamwork, Ken and Koa managed to reduce the opposition to just the 2 remaining pokemon. Just as the battle reached its fever pitch, chaos erupted. With Koa taking out a competitor, his foes realized that it would be better to take out the stronger pokemon first and surrounded the Mankey. After what seemed like an eternity of blows and evasions, Ken seized an opportunity. When the duo grouped up in an attempt to pressure Koa, he released an opportunistic Rockslide, knocking out the Gyarados and stunning the Persian. With one final super effective Drain Punch, Koa finished off the cat, leaving him as the last pokemon standing
As the last echoes of their battle faded into the cheers of the crowd, Ken realized he had emerged victorious—but barely. Breathing heavily, with adrenaline still pumping through his veins, he waved to the crowd. After a short celebration, he returned his companion and hurried toward the Pokécenter to heal Koa.
But as they approached, Ken overheard a conversation that set his heart racing. “The Masked Royale is here for the last match today.” The words lingered in his mind. He remembered the Professor mentioning someone of this name a couple weeks back, maybe he could watch this enigmatic figure in action?
After healing Koa, they rushed back to the Dome. The atmosphere crackled with palpable excitement as the final match was set to begin.
“Ken!” A voice cut through the noise, pulling him from his thoughts. Turning, he spotted a familiar figure, Professor Kukui striding toward him, his usual laid-back demeanor radiating confidence.

“It's good to see you Ken, nice day for a battle, eh?” Kukui said, a grin splitting his face as he tousled Ken’s hair.
“Professor! You came to Akala Island! I haven't seen you in ages,” Ken replied, he had missed his mentor, they had only communicated via phone the past few weeks.
They chattered on as they moved towards the Dome, Ken regaling the Professor with takes off his battles and the Professor nodding along dotingly. The topic inevitably drifted to the highlight match they were heading to watch and Kukui just smiled enigmatically.
As they reached the Dome and were waved in after checking their IDs "Well, get your notebook out, Ken. You may just see something in this battle that changes your perspective on battling," Kukui said cryptically, his eyes glinting with a hint of mischief. Before Ken could probe further, Kukui nodded at an attendant, quickly said his goodbyes and hurried off toward a side entrance.
Inspired by his mentor’s words, Ken and Koa rushed to the stands, eager to secure a good view. They arrived early enough to stake out optimal seating, the upper rows offering an unobstructed view of the entire battlefield.
As the arena filled with eager spectators, excitement crackled in the air. Ken could hardly contain himself as the trainers took their positions, ready to engage in fierce battles. The anticipation grew thicker when the announcer’s voice boomed through the speakers, introducing the trainers for the upcoming match.
“Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to today’s Battle Royale, featuring none other than the Masked Royale!” The crowd erupted into cheers, the name carrying an aura of mystery and pride.
Ken's pulse quickened as he leaned forward, trying to catch a glimpse of the legendary trainer. Clad in a dazzling mask and with his rippling muscles on display, the Masked Royale was a vision of prowess and power. He was flanked by three elite trainers, each with powerful Pokémon: a Blastoise, a Flygon, and an Aggron. Ken could hardly breathe, excitement and nerves blending into one potent cocktail.
As the battle commenced, Ken felt the crowd still in anticipation. The Masked Royale began by unleashing his Incineroar, the fiery feline’s roar marching his trainer’s intensity. The opposing trainers opened with their techniques, launching a volley of attacks. There was no chaotic yelling over each other by the trainers, the battle unfolded like a choreography of chaos, with each Pokémon moving with purpose and precision, dancing around attacks and answering with their own.
Blastoise unleashed jets of water, swirling around the battlefield, while Flygon swooped in and out of the fray, darting around its foes with uncanny grace. Aggron stood steadfast, its defenses nearly impenetrable, what attacks that did land were positioned in such a way that most of the energy was deflected, glancing off the large beast’s steel hide. But the Masked Royale remained unfazed, directing Incineroar with a calm that belied the tempest of battle.
Ken could hardly fathom the strategies at play as he watched the Masked Royale command his Pokémon with unwavering confidence. Each move was calculated; every call-out was deliberate, a part of a greater strategy. The tension in the Dome surged, and the crowd roared as Incineroar crouched down and surged forward, enveloped in a fiery cloak, executing a spectacular Flame Charge that sent his opponents scattering.
The battle reached its climax when the Masked Royale employed a deft tactic, drawing the attention of all three opponents before delivering an overwhelming single blow, a Darkest Lariat that managed to clip all three pokemon. In an instant, Blastoise was sent crashing to the ground, withdrawn into its shell, unable to withstand the force of the well-placed attack, while Flygon and Aggron fainted under the deadly assault.
With the crowd cheering, the Masked Royale stood victorious, his Incineroar roaring triumphantly. And then, before Ken could fully process the events, the legendary trainer disappeared, leaving the arena electrified with energy.
Ken sat in stunned silence, Koa perched on his shoulder, sensing the shift in his trainer’s emotional landscape. “That was incredible, Koa,” he finally breathed, his thoughts racing. “Watching them fight… It's a whole different level of battling. It's nothing like what we've been doing.”
Ken pondered his mentor's words. The Masked Royale had showcased techniques and strategies that transcended his current understanding of battles. He felt an urgent need to improve, to learn and adapt. Perhaps it was time to adjust their training regimen.
“Let’s take what we learned today, buddy,” Ken said, determination igniting within him. “We’ll try to incorporate these techniques, figure out our own strategies.”
As he left the Dome, the glow of the battlefield lingered in his mind. With each step he took, he felt a renewed sense of purpose, igniting a fire in his heart.
With Koa’s fur nestled against him, Ken knew his journey was just beginning. The battles he had witnessed today would guide him, inspire him, and perhaps usher him into an extraordinary world of Pokémon that he had yet to fully understand despite his transmigration.
“Let’s train harder than ever, Koa," Ken declared.
Emboldened by the lessons learned, Ken could feel the promise of the future unfurling before him, a landscape dotted with challenges, victories, and the companionship of his beloved Mankey. The world of battling was vast, and he would take on every challenge it threw at him, one step at a time.
