An hour later…
The hatted one sat alone in a dark room, watching a video on their laptop. On the screen, there was a small room with two beds, and two people talking to each other on just one of the beds.
The audio was quiet but fairly clear, and the hatted one heard the two individuals arguing about something. They bickered for only a few minutes when one of them got up and left the room.
She’s alone again. The hatted one thought to themselves as they continued to watch the recording. The girl then proceeded to retrieve a laptop and lay down on her bed, scrolling through it.
She seemed paranoid and on edge. It was difficult to see for sure, but she appeared to be shaking and fidgeting. She threw her covers on and off of herself, occasionally looking at her laptop, but then also closing it at times.
She’s afraid… but is it because of me? Does she know?
The hatted one continued to watch the recording quietly until the girl fell asleep. She looks like she could use some company, but I will wait. I will be patient.
Three days later…
She’s been alone for three days now. Maybe it’s time I come back. The hatted one thought as they watched the recording of the unsuspecting girl laying down peacefully in her dorm room bed. After a moment, the hatted one got up from their seat and exited the dark room.
They continued to watch the recording, realizing that the girl had now fallen asleep. I will wait a little bit longer to make sure. Then, I will go.
The hatted one walked outside, greeted by a cold gust of wind. But beyond the wind, the air seemed rather still and calm. The rain from the previous nights had finally died down; however, most places throughout the city were still without power.
It’s just a short walk to her dorm before I can be close to her again. The hatted one explained to themselves as they traversed the dark, still, night.
The moon above gleamed brightly through the small assortment of clouds in the sky, illuminating small parts of the nights, such as the cars the light could bounce off of.
There were a few students roaming the campus which was expected even this late in the night, and some of them passed the hatted one, giving their hat an unanticipated compliment such as “nice hat, bro.”
The hatted one, however, chose not to acknowledge these comments and remained fixed on their only objective, Josephine.
They continued prowling through the streets until they reached the Morris Wells Residence hall where both Merideth and Josephine lived.
Entering the dimly lit building quietly, the hatted one proceeded down the halls of the first floor, navigating to Josephine’s room. They passed several other dorms, a couple residents, and the break room where Josephine enjoyed playing pingpong and smiled promptly before continuing on their mission.
At some point, the hatted one encountered a short blonde haired girl who noticed them and politely said “hello.” However, they refused to acknowledge this girl and hid their face from view without speaking.
The blonde girl looked confused but shrugged it off as she proceeded down the hallway in the opposite direction and entered a room.

A moment later, the hatted one arrived at room 124, Josephine’s dorm. They checked their phone one more time and confirmed that the girl in the recording was sound asleep.
The hatted one then reached into one of their coat pockets and retrieved a small silver colored key. They slowly slid the key into the keyhole and turned it softly, making as little noise as possible.
Once they heard the soft click that confirmed the door had been unlocked, they proceeded to slowly and carefully push the door open.
The door opened silently, not making a single peep. They then carefully walked inside of the room where the unsuspecting girl slept peacefully with no idea this individual had entered.
The hatted one then twisted the door knob all the way to the right and closed the door carefully, releasing the knob as slowly and quietly as they could, allowing the door to shut all the way. It made a very subtle noise that the sleeping girl did not hear.
My Josephine… The hatted one stared down at the girl sleeping on her side with one bare leg sneaking out through her covers.
Oh… I just want to… But I can’t… I shouldn’t wake her… They bit back the urge to touch her, and refocused their attention on her desk.
They noticed something peculiar about an object on the desk and moved it very slightly in one direction. They then nodded their head and proceeded to open one of Josephine’s dressers.
As it opened, the edge of the drawer bumped into Josephine’s chair and made a clunking noise that caused her to move slightly in her sleep.
Alarmed, the hatted one froze, and waited for her to stop moving. They hadn’t woken her, but it was a close call.
It’s right there. Just grab it. They stared down at an object resting in her drawer and slowly reached in and retrieved it. The hatted one then closed the drawer softly and walked away from her side of the room.
They then climbed into the other bed with the object still in their hands. They placed their signature black hat on the floor and freed their long black hair. The hatted one, no longer wearing a hat, then bundled themselves up in sheets and stared intently through the darkness at Josephine’s one exposed leg.
You’re so beautiful, Josephine… so beautiful… so… beautiful… they fantasized as they shoved Josephine’s stolen item down their pants and underwear.
I love the way you sleep… so peacefully… I would watch you every night… But I don’t want anyone to know… No one can know…
The hatted one began to rub the object against themselves, continuing to stare at Josephine’s body, and despite being mostly covered in sheets, this was plenty for them.
They continued to be quiet, making very little noise beyond the quiet rubbing against the fabric of their clothes. And, Josephine remained undisturbed and asleep for a while, but she occasionally rolled and moved, alarming the hatted one.
I could get up right now… and move over to you… but then you’ll know and no one can know. No, I should stay here and play it slow. I can… do this.
They laid there for several hours watching Josephine sleep and fantasizing about her. They thought of a relationship with her, sharing their lives, their plans, their futures, and getting emotionally and physically intimate.
The object the hatted one had stolen had been dampened from an unknown liquid, but they continued to hold it against their body like a prized possession of theirs.
In the midst of silence, Josephine began to groan and roll around softly, slowly waking up. The hatted one noticed this, and turned to face the wall away from her.
They remained silent as Josephine regained consciousness, and became aware of their presence. For a moment, she stayed still, but then she sat up on her side and examined the person across from her.
“Alana? You’re back again?” She croaked softly, continuing to stare with her eyes nearly shut. She rubbed them softly and waited impatiently for a response.
“Alana? I’m not mad at you anymore. Can you stop leaving me now?” She spoke with a very soft and groggy voice.
Josephine continued to wait for a few seconds but received no response and gave up, returning to her sleeping position and throwing her sheets over her body.
The hatted one remained calm and quiet, making no further movements for several hours until they were ready to get up and exit the room.
They sat up on the edge of the bed, continuing to stare at the unconscious Josephine for just a few more moments. Then, the hatted one removed the stolen item from their pants, stuffed it inside of their hat, and then placed the hat back on their head.
Soon after, the hatted one stealthily exited the room, shutting the door softly before disappearing down the hallway.
