Friend

"Uh." Ruvian noticed something small pouring over from above, as it entered his Sensus radius. He then stretched his palm wide, catching that raindrop.

Some of the drops landed on his eyelids. With just his finger, he gently wiped it.

'If only my eyes were to work again. Haaah, I even missed seeing the rain. Now I can only picture the color of cloudy sky in my mind.'

Eventually, the pour got heavier. He had to makeshift a canopy from the leaves that fell on the ground, clumped together under Praecantatio effect.

Suddenly, he sniffed something soothing.

'This earthy smell … how nostalgic, Aw.' Adelle's punch still leaves a lasting effect.

Ruvian reached out his hand to feel the rain pour. Strangely enough, it felt like he was doing this for the first time.

'I might even consider taking a rain shower now …'

Not going back with his mind, Ruvian made sure nobody was around using Sensus. His vision range widened.

'Well, who could possibly be around? it's in the middle of the forest.'

He begins to take off his worn leather armor and leggings, letting it float along with the Praecantatio. Until nothing was covering his athletic figure.

Slowly, he entered the rain zone and felt coldness all over his trunk down to his feet. His lung started to expand, taking in air as much as it could.

'How refreshing. It's kinda funny though. Literally different from just using a bucket. Welp, that's enough for now. Might catch a cold.'

Under the purple Vis, it was easy for him to take out most of the water that wet his body. After dressed back, he continued walking, sheltered by the leaf canopy that moved slowly along with him.

Later, his Sensus vision caught the image of a person that was trailing his track half a mile behind.

The rain came down relentlessly, leaving her drenched and helpless. Even taking shelter under a nearby tree proved to be of little use.

Ruvian sighed heavily at the thought of Adelle, then took a sharp turn and resumed his walk. The downpour had erased any trace of his footsteps, so he predicted that Adelle was simply following the path he had taken last.

He kept a watchful eye on her with Sensus from a distance until she arrived at the spot where he had turned.

As he had anticipated, she continued in the same direction, much to his amusement. 'Heh, that should have gotten rid of her.'

The cloud steadily discharged its water for quite some time. The forest had not rained for three days, the exact time of Ruvian's appearance.

Some animals took shelter from the rain underneath the trees, some at the trees and some are inside a small gap of long-died log.

But there is this particular four-legged animal that couldn't escape the boy's power.

'Hmnn, a deer. I could make some dinner … or lunch?'

Ruvian summoned his sword and flew it away silently amongst the bushes.

Thanks to his academic study back then. He knew some parts of the biological anatomy of his prey.

'Gotcha!'

The tip of his sword pointed towards the animal's heart. After channeling some force into the Vis, Ruvian pulled it in and scored a bullseye.

The poor deer went limp within a few seconds later. After making sure that the animal was no longer pulling a breath, the sword that was still under Ruvian's purple Vis, utilized its handguard as weight support and flew the animal back to him.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

He starts cutting the meat out. Thanks to the rain, it cleaned the deer's blood for him.

'Hmmm, I gotta admit Adelle's Ardor would be useful at this point.'

Ruvian ate some of it raw. It could not be helped, he used to have the Vis that could produce fire, like Adelle did.

It was unfortunate for him to lose access to it, which still continues to haunt and bewildered him with the question of why some of his Aspects are gone gradually. It effectively degrades his power.

He theorized that it was due to the influence of Necrolyte. Admitting the fact that he had died was not the hardest part; it was when the worst-case scenario happened, and all of his power was gone.

Once his Aspect of Sensus followed the same fate as his Ardor, then everything would change for good. No more seeing, only darkness up ahead.

'Hrmrhm, it does taste bitter at some point.' Yet, he kept on chewing.

Eventually, the rain ceased. However, the air temperature was going down. The sun had already set.

Ruvian made himself a safe resting place under giant tree roots. He was accompanied by some squirrels that were busy burying their food just near his resting spot.

'Never had imagined that the world was truly at peace now.'

The world he knew back then would always strive with threat. In the middle of the forest like he was in now would always lurk with dangers around.

Whether it was the deserted demons from their pack, or the ferocious beast that was summoned by the warlock and wandered on its own.

Things were totally different. But now, it was indeed what he had hoped.

The night breeze grazed his tan face with a cold touch. After a lengthy walk session, Ruvian felt drowsy and decided to take a rest for tomorrow.

Hidden under the night veil, it's the perfect time for a hunter to start its hunt.

With a small fire that burned using her Vis on her hand, she found a dead deer that was butchered by a picky person for its legs and shoulder meat since most of its limbs and shanks are still intact.

She sniffed the air, and found traces of the animal's dried blood after being washed by the rain. She pieced the information until she was confident about where the deer murdered went.

She followed it until it led to thin footprints and some stepped vegetation.

'Gotcha!'

"Uhg?" Ruvian abruptly woke up after hearing a sneaking step that tried its best to conceal the stepping sound on the dead leaves. He quickly rose and aimed his Vis towards the person.

"Who?!"

"Are you bli–Oh, sorry my bad, you are!" she chuckled.

"That voice …. " His Sensus is finally capable of portraying the image of the short-haired girl in front of him after being half awake. Ruvian then sighed. "…. Adelle."

"What, didn't you miss me?" Always being accompanied with a nasty grin. "How's your nose?"

Ruvian rubbed his temple. He felt the air was still cold along with the sound of crickets here and there. "Are you serious? Stalking people this late."

"Who are you calling a stalker? It just so happens that we are going in the same direction. Hmph!"

"Tch, whatever …."

Ruvian leaned back against the giant tree root, ready to catch some much-needed rest. If Adelle dared to disturb his peaceful slumber, he wouldn't hesitate to show her what he really meant.

However, Adelle proved to be quick to adapt to his mood, reading his face and sensing his irritation. She left him alone and tried to go about her business more smoothly.

She managed to find a log, which she burned until all the water it contained had evaporated and it burned on its own.

It appeared as though she was doing this for herself, but she also kept the flames burning not too far from Ruvian. Finally, she took out a small cloth from her bag and settled down to sleep on it.

'Fire, huh ….' Ruvian felt the air was starting to heat up into a nice and sound temperature. '.... whatever. I'll just keep my distance from her.'

The two adventurers had found themselves lured into a sound sleep by the enchanting night of the forest.

In the following morning, Ruvian woke up to find that Adelle was gone. The only thing that remained was the ashes of the fire they had made and a stick with well-cooked meat on it.

Ruvian couldn't help but suspect that Adelle's disappearance was intentional, especially given the fact that she had left behind food that was cooked perfectly.

Ruvian expands his Sensus vision, scouring everything around him within ten feet, fifty, and eventually one hundred feet away.

Yet, he couldn't find her anywhere. 'She must have gone far. Hmmm …. Well, wasting food is rude.'

He continued his aimless travel while enjoying the cooked meat. 'I had a weird feeling that told me she will definitely come back.'

And it could not be truer.

When the sun was high, Ruvian found a calm flowing river. Adelle was indeed entering his Sensus radius again, following the river course that led to him.

"Yo!!! Mr. Errigan!" She shouted from a distance, waving her hand.

"What the …." Unimpressed. Ruvian just gave her a glance in his Sensus and went back to his business.

He touched the water surface. After a brief moment of channeling Vis of Praecantatio, Ruvian sent it down into the water and his Vis flowed along the current.

The purple Vis coated almost everything under water. Then, Ruvian raised his hand. All the fishes that were caught in his Vis floated above the water.

He carefully selected four of them. With his sword, he expertly sliced the fish in a lateral line up the side, removing their organs and cleaning them out in the flowing river, all done with his skilled telekinesis.

Adelle was already there, watching the chef doing his work. "Woah, how convenient. Your Venevisium controls are surely precise."
