Chapter 4: A Living Cheat.

"So remember how I said that I can sense anything in my aura? Well, it encompasses about half a solar system, so I can very easily solve mazes. Minaga?" The still-crying man waved his hand and a door behind him opened.

"Let's go. Follow me."

Floor 1

Time limit: 5 hours.

Jake sped off ahead and Jason teleported behind him, always keeping up with his shadow.

[Path of Shadows]

Special Ability/Conjuration (dimension, teleport, darkness).

Base cost: Varies.

Cooldown: Varies.

* Effect (iron): Teleport using shadows as a portal. You must be able to see the destination shadow. This effect is a special ability with a low mana cost and no cooldown.

* Effect (bronze): You can sense nearby shadows and teleport to them without requiring a line of sight. By increasing the cost to moderate, small shadows can be enlarged to serve as viable portals at both the ingress and egress points. Alternatively, conjure a shadow gate between two locations on a regional scale. The distant gate must appear in a location you have previously visited. This effect is a conjuration with a very high mana cost and a 10 minute cooldown. The iron-rank effect can still be used while this ability is on cooldown.

* Effect (silver): You can now conjure a long-range shadow gate with double the range of the bronze-rank gate. This ability has a one-hour cooldown and also incurs the 10 minute cooldown of the bronze-rank shadow gate ability.

* Effect (gold): Any shadow you pass through will become unusable by any other powers and boost any of your powers used in that shadow for a short time. Portal range and capacity increased. If the standard gold rank effect is used, it has a 5 hour cooldown and causes all other uses of the portal to be put on cooldown.

* Effect (diamond): All shadows within your aura are available to teleport through without need for line of sight. Enlarging shadows to teleport through now costs low mana. You may create a shadow within your sight for a very high mana cost. Portal range and capacity increased. If the standard diamond rank effect is used, it has a 10 hour cooldown and causes all other uses of the portal to be put on cooldown.

Ability limitations, [Path of Shadows]

Capacity (Diamond 0): 1 diamond rank living entity. Alternatively, 10 gold rank living entities, 100 silver rank living entities, 1000 bronze-rank living entities, 10,000 iron-rank living entities or 100,000 normal rank living entities.

Capacity is reduced by taking large amounts of non-living material through, either directly or in dimensional bags. Items in dimensional storage generated by personal powers do not count against the capacity.

Range (In Kilometers) - Bronze: 40. Silver: 800. Gold: 16,000 Diamond: 640,000. The destination must have been previously visited, before or after obtaining this ability.

Jason could see Zac just barreling along, occasionally crashing into walls. They reached a circle and they all stood on it.

They followed Jake just as before, except they found a monster. Jake summoned his bow and blew its head off before Jason had time to do anything. They reached the end again and all stood on the circle

They continued, occasionally blasting monsters out of the way.

Floor 4

Time limit: 4 hours, 30 minutes

And so they went.

Until...

Floor 30 complete!

Challenge completed!

You can exit now.

Jason could faintly hear a howl of anguish from below them. Jake laughed heartily.

"I don't think we can exploit any challenges more than

this one." They each exited the dungeon and were teleported back to the lobby.

Prizes from the Challenge and Arena Zones will be given upon completion of the entire Dungeon.

"That's bull[crud]," complained Zac. Another team teleported next to them. Jason identified them

The Lonely Leveler.

One system against millions of others without, he defied his fate as the weakest.

The Princess GC BWR NW Queen Anne Chonk

A Persian Tortoiseshell cat who was on another dungeon show. We stole her for our better show.

The Unbroken Capital.

A man who previously owned billions of dollars. Dying didn't stop his attempt for ultimate wealth.

"What did you guys just finish? By the way, I'm Dollar." asked Dollar. Jason thought he had heard that name before.

"Aren't you that business guy that got shot by his druggie sister? Strewth mate, that's a rough way to go."

The cat shot an accusatory glance at him.

"You didn't tell us that, Dollar! You said you died fighting an army!"

"Different reality, different deaths, Doughnut. We've been over this. Your Earth has been turned into a gameshow, I have no idea about mine, and we both don't know what happened in his." Dollar pointed at the black haired Asian man in the corner.

"Tall, dark, and silent refuses to tell us anything." Jason walked over to him. He could tell that look in his eyes. It was the look of someone who had to kill or be killed, someone who experienced death on the scale he had.

"Zac, Jake, I'm going for a walk. Come with me mate. I just want to talk."

The man stared him down with his illuminated cold blue eyes, a rudimentary attempt at intimation.

Jason took his glasses off.

He revealed his white, blue, and gold vortexes, and laid his aura bare, showing the sacrifices and hardships he went through. Gods had fallen, planets had been destroyed, reality had been reshaped, by the will of this one man. He infused his experiences and memories, from seeing the edge of how much punishment a soul can take, to watching his friends die because he wouldn't capitulate, to facing armies he couldn't possibly beat, to dying while knife fighting a god at the edge of reality. Not once, just dying like it was out of fashion, spending them standing up to powers he couldn't fathom.

Jason put the glasses back on. He walked and the man scrambled to follow him.
