I wake up. Around me, all I see is a pitch-black void. I feel like I'm in water. I twist and turn around, trying to see if there's anything around me.
There isn't. It's just void. I try to wave my arms around, but when I tried, I felt nothing. It's like I had no arms. I try to do the same for every part of my body. I tried to kick my legs, blink, anything I could think of, but I still felt nothing. This goes on for a while.
At some point, I gave up. I stopped trying, and just existed. I looked around every once in a while, as that was all I could do. Look. Sadly, though, I saw nothing of interest.
Then I got bored. I try to think of anything, to imagine, but my mind feels muddy. And so I stopped. I just did nothing. I don't know why I feel nothing. No motivation, no panic, no fear, nothing. I tried counting the seconds, but I would lose track after the 1st second. How long have I been here? A few moments? Hours? Years? But as I try to expand that idea, everything feels muddy, and it becomes impossible to think. So I stopped. I just floated in the void. I tried to recall how I ended up here, but my memories were blurry. I remember nothing. Not my name, my species, nothing.
…I think I'm starting to see a pattern here. I kept floating. And floating. And floating, for what felt like eons. Then… I heard a voice. The voice had no discernible source, it was everywhere at once.
“Hello,” it said. I'm tempted to say they, however. As it sounded like hundreds of people said it at once. I look around but find nothing. Just the same old void. I continued looking for the person that spoke, but I saw nothing. Then a flash. It was like I was just point-blanked with a flashbang. I find myself still stuck in the endless black void. But I notice that it doesn't feel like I'm in water anymore. It's like I'm standing on flat ground. Then, I look down, and I notice I have limbs. A torso, legs, arms, all the good shit. And now I know what species I am! I'm human! Neat. After looking at my body for a few seconds, I look up, and notice a…human? No, it wasn't human. Humans don't glow. Even if it is a dim glow.
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
Wait, glowing? I think to myself Oh shit, I can think again! Hell yeah. Now, back to the more pressing matter.
In Front of me is a naked human. Humanoid? Whatever. They had no facial features, or features in general, skin as white as the moon, and they were fuckin’ glowing.
“Uhh…hey there!” I said to him, It looks at me. Well, I'm assuming it's looking at me now. Its head is pointing in my general direction, how about that?
“Welcome.” the voice says. Voices? Whatever. “I'm sorry about the wait, but we can work on your reincarnation now.” the voices say.
“Wait, reincarnation?” I say, confused.
“Yes. reincarnation is when-”
“No, no, I know what it is, I just thought it was made up. Fiction. Not real. You know?” I say as I interrupt it.
“...yes, reincarnation is real. Moving on.” it…they? I'm calling it, from now on. Way too fuckin’ confusing, you know?
Wait, where am I actually? And why am I just now thinking this? And how did I end up here? My chain of thought was interrupted by my visitor.
“You have 2 choices on how you can pick your reincarnation. 1, you can leave it up to fate, and spin the wheel of reincarnation, or 2, you can let your karma decide what you deserve to be reincarnated as,” it explained
“...before I decide, may I ask 2 questions?” I ask it
“No.” it responds
“Oh.” I say, dejected. Well shit. I'm gonna ask anyway and see what happens.
“Was I a bad person in my last life?” I ask it
“I cannot respond.” it replies, instantly. Well shit.
“Cannot, or will not?” I ask. I get no response.
…hm I think. It's probably wise to think really hard about this. It is my future life, after all.
After thinking for a total of 15 seconds, I make my choice
“SPIIIIN THE WHEEEEELLL!” I exclaim, confident.
“Ok.” it accepts, saying nothing. The entity raised its arm in the air. And after a few seconds, a giant wheel of fortune fell from the…sky? It fell from above. There isn't really a sky here in the void. The visitor simply looks at the wheel, and it starts spinning. Fast.
After a few minutes, the wheel slows down. It gets slower, and slower, until…it stops.
“Dungeon core” it says.
“What's that?” I ask.
“You'll see.” the entity responds, raising its hand
“Wait, hold on, I feel like I'm missing some crucial info-” I say as I was cut off by another flash of light. After I reclaim my sight, I find myself no longer in the void.
Instead, I find myself in a cave.
