A dream.
I’m in pitch black darkness looking at an enormous ancient and grayish creature, resembling mother, who in turn is looking straight me. His size dwarfs that of my mother. If mother was a small mountain, then he would certainly compare to ten giant mountains. One word to describe him: HUGE.
His size would only amount to so much; however, size wasn’t all he had. He gave an oppressive and indomitable aura that far surpasses mother’s …almost making me blank out and lose my mind. Luckily, he withdrew it when he saw my efforts to stay awake making me think of how weak I am.
Most mentionable, however, are his eyes. They were pure white giving the impression that he was blind due to his old age giving off an ancient and lonely glint. However the gaze he held when looking at me, seems as if he was looking straight into my soul, inspecting every corner and crevice my very being. He surely wasn’t blind…was he?
“Fifteen years…for Fifteen years…endure…” He spoke with a raspy voice as if speaking for the first time in his life, looking straight into my eyes to which I looked back. Seeing that I was intently listening to his words, he continued:
“Though there are many things I wish to say…I cannot. Bringing you here already exhausted all the strength I had and time is of the essence. But remember this, whatever happens do not abandon those close to you under any circumstances. If you do, I will certainly never forgive you.”
“Huh?” I am totally lost…just what is he talking about? Wait, in the first place, why is he talking like he knows me. I’ve never seen or met him before, not that I remember.
Ignoring my short interruption, he resumed:
“Though, you are confuse, just try to at least remember what I have to tell you. Though you are just recently born, as you are of the Dragon race, you should be able to do at least this much. Anyhow, listen carefully because I won’t repeat what I will say. For the next fifteen years, you will suffer greatly. The reason you will find out every soon. Until, then endure the hardships and humiliation you will face…and if perhaps, you are able to, we will meet again.”
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
With those lingering words, his massive body began to gently fade into the dark.
“WAIT!” I yelled at him as exasperation, shock, and disbelief overtook me. I couldn’t understand anything of what he said but for some odd reason I believed him and knew he wasn’t lying to me either.
“Don’t leave yet! You haven’t told me who you are! Please, before you go, at least tell me who you are!” I yell as I chase after his fading body in the empty darkness.
“Hm? Heh, so you don’t really know huh. Well, I would guess you wouldn’t. But even if I did tell you, you wouldn’t even have a clue as to who I am; it would only confuse you further. So don’t bother about it.”
I desperately ran after him but I couldn’t catch up to him. For a creature of his size, he moves too fast. Knowing it was too late; I stop my pursuit and stood there alone in darkness staring at the tiny fading shadow of what use to be the giant grey creature.
Then suddenly…
“I am but a mere memory from the past. A regret, really. But do not think too much of it, for you already know wh..o….I…a…mmmm…” Resounded a deep voice in the dark.
“BANG!”
I woke up…only to find the pale-green dragon’s arm on my face. I had to admit, though she was tiny, she sure packs a wallop. There was a small swelling on my grey snout, but luckily no serious injuries or anything.
I removed her arm from my swollen face and then began thinking about that strange dream.
Was it really a dream..?
But those last words, “A memory from the past…a regret…huh.”
Whose past though…and why did he say regret?
“ARGH!! Why did he had to say it in such a complicated and confusing way. Bah, I could care less anymore. I need to sleep or tomorrow isn’t going to be pleasant experience for me.”
Pushing it out my mind, I closed my eyes and slowly drifted to sleep.
