Reality is composed of countless universes like cells inside a body all there making up a greater hole. With universes being the building blocks of reality or the often called multiverse. With universes being infinitely large many beings believe that they are alone and unique in their worlds. While many species and lifeforms explore worlds, solar systems, galaxies, and beyond few actually step out of their universes to explore elsewhere. With most civilizations dying out after running their course and exhausting their potential. 

Walking through the streets Nick watched as a man flew across the sky in an office suit. Turning the corner while watching the man go by he noticed a woman about to bump into him. However right before she did he watched as her body turned slightly transparent and walked right through him. Unfazed about almost running into him she continued to walk, stopping a short distance away at the crosswalk waiting for the light. While slightly stunned Nick continued down the street after a short pause he continued watching the hustle and bustle of various people and the use of their abilities while walking. Walking by a small coffee shop he watched a couple staring at each other while sitting at a small table. While Nick passed by he could hear the man having a conversation with himself. Nick while walking by couldn't help but sigh knowing that the girl was replying through telepathy. All he could do is think about what power he would get when he awakens later on today.

After all today was the day he has been waiting for a long time dreaming of what kind of power or powers he would obtain today. Nick was so excited he had trouble sleeping for the last week and for the past three days he didn’t sleep at all until he finally passed out last night. Luckily he got enough rest last night otherwise it may have affected his awakening. It's been studied and proven that when you awaken if your body is not in a fit condition, it’s very likely that even if it succeeds it will be greatly weakened. With powers of flight being degraded to just hover a few inches above the ground. Even those being blessed with telekinesis are only able to lift crayons and pencils instead of trucks and planes. After all, with telekinesis you could even lift yourself to fly with practice. It would have been a waste if his powers degraded just because he couldn't get enough sleep the night before.

Reaching the end of the block he could finally see his goal and, the end of his short walk Nick sees a five story building with a sign with the “Awakening Center” written just above the front doors. In the last 20 years with the advancement of technology and science the government has built an Awakening Center in every city to help with Awakening allowing all the young adults on their eighteenth birthday to awaken. After all, if your powers are not awakened by human intervention, who knows when you will awaken. Some still wait as they pass away from old age never gaining any powers. Others get lucky awakening powers when in life threatening accidents allowing them to survive otherwise deadly situations.

Walking into the building Nick looks around finding his parents waiting for him in one corner of the room seeing them he walks over to them. When Nick gets his father Harvey says “Are you ready to find out what your power is Nick?” “Of course I'm ready dad, I have been waiting for this day forever!” Nick replied. Nick's mother Mary looks him over and askes “Have you gotten enough rest? If you're not fully rested we shouldn’t do this today and reschedule. After all, if you're not in tip-top shape it could affect the awakening process.” “I'm ready mother I got plenty of sleep last night so there should be no problems.” He replied. Just as he finished replying he hears one of the doctors call his name from a doorway. Looking over he sees an older gentleman looking at him. Nick turns back to his parents looking at them he says to them “It's time I will see you soon and when I come back I will have powers!” Turning back around to the doctor Nick runs over without even waiting for his parents' reply. His parents looked at each other and laughed after all they know how excited Nick has been about this day. They sat down in the nearby chairs waiting for their son to return.

Following the doctor back to a small room Nick sees a big machine hooked up to a fancy dentist chair that had small metal poles to grab extending from the armrests. “Go ahead and sit down, Nick and I will walk you through the procedure.” Nick sat down in the chair and the doctor reclined back the chair for him. Continuing on the doctor says “Go ahead and grab those two metal poles connected to the chair and relax. There should be no pain or uncomfortableness during the procedure. However you might feel a little weird when your power starts to awaken.” Saying that the doctor turns towards the machine and flips a switch with a whirring noise it starts up. “Now this should take about five minutes. Do you have any questions for me while we wait Nick?”

Nick sat and thought for a second before saying “How will I know what powers I have or how to use them?” Looking at Nick the doctor replied “You used to have to test through trial and error but with the newest tech we can now see what powers you have almost as soon as the machine is done. It will print out a sheet of paper for every power you have with the name and effects of said power.” Nick nodded with understanding and the doctor continued “Activating your powers still takes some trial and error after all you will have to train with them to use them flawlessly. However remember the feeling during this time when your powers are activating. Using this feeling can help you activate your powers for the first time till you get comfortable with them.” The Doctor looked at the machine and Nick noticed a small timer that he didn't see before.

Looking back at Nick the doctor said “Alright no more questions for now if you have anymore I can answer them after. The clock is about to reach the 2 minute mark and you should start feeling your powers soon. Sit back, relax and focus on that feeling and memorize it.” Sitting back in the chair Nick closes his eyes trying to feel anything different. After another few minutes Nick frowns, not able to feel anything opening his eyes he glances at the clock reading four and a half minutes. Closing his eyes again Nick tries harder feeling for anything that's out of the ordinary. Finally after another twenty seconds he starts to feel it but it's always just out of grasp. Just as he gets a hold on that feeling it disappears. Opening his eyes he looks at the doctor waiting for him to speak. The doctor about to ask a question pauses right before as a sound comes from the machine again. Looking over Nick sees a piece of paper start to come out of the machine. The doctor picks it up and looks at it.

Nick looking Hopeful watches the doctor read the paper. After reading the doctor sighs and hands it over to Nick. “Read this and I will go bring you parents in.” He said. Nick taking the paper and watching the doctor leave the room looks down at it. Reading the paper is says

Sighing with disappointment Nick thinks about his power. He has actually heard about this power before it can allow him to survive in space with no protection. While also allowing him to be slightly resistant to elemental powers of others. Sighing again Nick looks back at the machine with disappointment. Looking at the machine Nick hears it turn on again and watches as another piece of paper appears from it. With a happy expression Nick jumps up from the chair and runs over. Grabbing the paper Nick reads it.

With a smile Nick rereads the paper making sure he sees it right with a hopeful expression he turns back looking at the door to the room as it opens. Seeing the doctor with his parents he waves the paper excitedly saying I have a second power. Before Nick or his parents reply Nick could feel that familiar feeling he felt when his powers were awakened by the machine and looking at his parents while they looked at him. He vanished…
