SCREEN 1 (PANEL) 1-5

We see a DOMED METALLIC DEVICE and a speck of gold placed near an OPENING into the machine. After the gold is ingested electrical charge is visibly growing around the device as it rises, we see a screen at an unknown location light up and a computer sends out a signal to alert many different people at once that something important has just happened. AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF DOMINOES HAVE JUST BEEN SET IN MOTION. We see many new panels for each person and group notified.. all the computers around the world that respond at the same time. All the people notified and set in motion.

SCREEN 2 (PANEL) 1.

Exterior of the MAN WITH THE MACHINES SHOP. We see SWAT TEAM lights illuminating the area.

CHAPTER 2.

SCENE 1.

SCREEN 3 (PANEL) 1.

We see what RIVER SEES from his motorcycle, weaving through DEAD CARS littering the streets with people wandering around with flashlights.

(PANEL) 2.

River hits the PERFECT SPOT in his route to wherever he is going where he can get an even closer shot of the GLOWING OBJECT in the sky and really gets some perfect PICS of it in all it's glory.

It looks a bit like a glowing metallic jellyfish surrounded by a dense ELECTRICALLY CHARGED MIST.

SCENE 2.

SCREEN 1 (PANEL) 6-10.

Several of the things set into motion are what appear to be SMALL INSECTS. But as we examine these little "creatures" up close.. We see they aren't insects as we know them. There is something oddly mechanical about them. It's so minute a difference that most would not notice.

These insects all over the city begin converging on one point and are conveying info to their masters in the process.

SCENE 3.

(PANEL) 11.

News studio

NEWS CO-HOST

Our science and tech expert Sanjaia Bupta reports that the effect people witnessed may have been something called an electromagnetic pulse - or EMP - which are conventionally a by product of nuclear devices detonating.

We see the MAN WHO WAS WITH THE MACHINE sitting peacefully behind the large garage door as it rolls up.

We are with River again as he is directly under the glowing machine now. Everyone else is running away from the location of the glowing machine in the sky, but River is right under it taking more pictures.

(PANEL) 4.

He sees THE MAN WHO WAS WITH THE MACHINE in an open shop courtyard area moving away from him into the shop and then out to the front area towards the street front.

(PANEL) 5.

River takes photos of the inside of the shop and all the weird contraptions and tools and all the other oddities.

Flying insect robots report all the info they find from the scene. Confirming what was initially detected.

We see the immense amount of ACTIVITY GENERATED by this act and it's implications - the shit just hit the fan for some government organization.

River sees insects swarming the scene of the shop in a strange way and takes pics of them, too.

We see a kindly looking older man in his bed suddenly awoken.. We see images and data being transferred to him that he perceives in his mind.

INT. SUSPECT GARAGE

We fast forwarded in time a bit to the FBI examining the suspects garage.

We see AGENT GUNKOWSKI (the stunning young woman from the theater) examining the WORKBENCH talking to her partner while taking voice notes on her iFrames*. We see THE MAN WITH THE MACHINE in the background being led to an armored car like vehicle and being put in the back.

FBI AGENT GUNKOWSKI

The suspect has many books and excessive paraphernalia for building complex machinery and possible terrorist literature as well....

*iFrames are a PC and PC screen system built into what appear to be normal eyeglasses. They have many state-of-the-art functions and features such as voice dictation, a head's up display, super powered high speed internet capabilities and artificial intelligence functionality as well as many other features. These devices are in a trial stage and being tested by the elite in key fields.

SCENE 1.

SCREEN 3 (PANEL) 8-9.

River sees swat vans and armored cars barreling down both the cross streets he can see from his back alley location. They are obviously about to converge in the front of the shop River is observing.

(PANEL) 10.

River suddenly sees SWAT vehicles turning into the alley and barreling towards him, he runs between 2 fences towards the street in front of the shop.

We see the same kindly looking old man later being interviewed.

REPORTER

Mr. Forestall, as one of the premiere science experts in the world, what do you make of these events?

FRANKLIN FORESTALL

It's troubling. We are seeing more and more advanced technology being employed by the general population in frightening ways, not just by militaries. It's so important we as a society are educated and have access to information and technology. But where do we draw the line when these things become dangerous to the masses as well? We don't want to see chaos but we don't want a police state either. Something like this just highlights that to an even greater degree.

Police are milling around in the front, measuring and taping the scene off. Agent Gunkowski's partner is in the foreground examining THE MACHINE

AGENT GUNKOWSKI'S PARTNER

I'm getting trace radioactive signals.. not enough to be a danger but we need to get a reading of the whole area for any more radiation or hidden WMD materials - we need to seal this area and evacuate these people

(PANEL) 6.

We see one agent lifting THE MACHINE and putting it on it's original stand.

FBI AGENT

(Reading from a tablet computer)

Grim Lightfield 24 years of age, stock boy 1 year, truck driver 6 months, construction off and on, Janitor part time for a year, waiter 3 months. Attempted community college very briefly. It's unlikely someone like this could build a device of this complexity himself. We need to find out who else was coming visiting this shop or who he might have been working with remotely.

FBI AGENT

What is this thing? I've never seen anything like it, it's not any kind of conventional drone, that's for sure. Witness reports said it was hovering in the air for a long period of time but it's got no conventional flying mechanisms. It's way way too heavy to be some kind of lighter than air device or battery operated.

River in foreground listening to witnesses -

It made no noise.. But you could hear it like that electrical charge noise in the movies..

The light was the brightest thing I have ever seen.. It was brighter than the brightest day for a time.

We see Agent Gunkowski using her iFrames to auto recognize the text of the books and upload to an FBI server to search the terrorist databases.

ROARK

I'm heading back with the suspect to prepare for interrogation.

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

I'm running these books through the database to see if anything pops up on the terrorist/conspiracy theorist reading list. I'll finish up here and brief the media when we let them in. I'll be there for interrogation as soon as I can.

(PANEL) 8.

ROARK

You better make it fast, Gunner. The commanders at HS [Homeland Security] are all over this thing and they want everything done yesterday. They said if any info we obtain leaks from our crew, we can kiss our careers goodbye.

River moves closer to the crime scene blending in with the residents on the street who witnessed the incident talking to each other and watching the police, SWAT and FBI taking control of the scene.

INT. NEWS STATION

The CNZ news chief gets a call.

AGENT JONES

(On the phone line)

Morton, we need to censor any information that might paint the suspect in a positive light. Are we clear?

CNZ CHIEF

Crystal, sir. Is he company?

(PANEL) 27.

AGENT JONES

Negative.

CNZ CHIEF

I will re-contact for further orders when time permits.

SCENE 3.

SCREEN 2 (PANEL) 8.

We are in front of the crime scene again and Agent Gunkowski is speaking to the media.

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

We are still trying to determine what exactly happened but we do not believe at this point there was any kind of bomb that was detonated. And there seems to be no major materials or weapons danger at this point but we are still collecting evidence. We urge people to stay away from the scene for safety reasons and let the authorities do their job.

The suspect has no criminal record of any kind, that's all we can say at this time.

(PANEL) 9.

Police are clearing the scene of bystanders and the media while the media tries to pump neighbors for information.

REPORTER

What did you see ma'am?

ELDERLY NEIGHBOR

I saw a alien flyin' up there in the sky. it was just like in th' movies.

I thought for sure we were all goners when the sky lights up an' everything goes dark as can be.

YOUNG NEIGHBOR TO REPORTER 2:

It's aliens man.. I seen em! this is it my brother. This's a warnin' from god!

River continues to argue with the FBI agents as they move him and others back from the scene. River pretends to move away but just to find a better spot to see what's going on.

I urge the American people to stay strong at this time. We have every available resource working to ensure another incident like this doesn't happen in your city...

We see Agent Gunkowski leaving the scene and River approaching.

RIVER

Gunkowski, long time no see. That doesn't appear to be FBI spec apparel, Gunner. (referring to her skin tight evening dress covered by an over-sized FBI windbreaker) Were you out on a date tonight? This must have been pretty important to drag you away from such a lucky guy. You look better than ever!

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

(To River)

I really wish I could say the same about you River... but I'd be lying.

(To FBI agent)

Sgt, we need to lock this area down all the way to 10th street. We need to clear all these people out immediately (pointedly motioning to River)

(PANEL) 11.

RIVER

I'm hurt. doesn't the past mean anything? Have you forgotten about our date way back in the day? I made you famous and now you won't even give me the time of day.

Besides, you don't own this road Gunkowski... this is still America, barely... and journalists have rights.

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

It wasn't a date, it was business.. and you were a journalist way back then, Lotus-eater.. not so much these days.

(PANEL) 12.

RIVER

The "alternative media" is still journalism Agent Gunkowski...

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

Is that what they are calling the tabloids these days? Lotus-eater, half the city is without power and we have work to do. I don't have time for this now.

(PANEL) 13.

RIVER

Gunner, I can help you for old times sake if you can help me... I have something that no one else can provide you that could give you info about this event no one else has... I will share with you if you will share with me...

Take my card and think about it... maybe if you ever take a night off from being the caped crusader we could have some fun this time... in your case fun is a promotion though isn't it.. so maybe we could work something out here?

Reporters and camera crews as well as random every day observers move back from their observation point when the police and FBI roust them.

At this moment, while hiding, River sees several military helicopters and VTOL* aircraft entering the scene landing in a large empty lot.

Is this just the beginning of the EMP attacks or do you feel this was just an isolated event?

I think this is just the beginning. Once one person does it then everyone else starts copycatting. We saw that after 9-11. Now terrorist attacks are happening constantly where as before it was a rarity.

We are in the VIEWING ROOM of an FBI interrogation room with several FBI personnel watching. There are monitors that can be switched from camera to camera mounted inside the room that can be zoomed and changed with controllers like a TV show control room. The suspect - GRIM LIGHTFIELD - dwarfs Agent Gunkowski AND EVERYONE ELSE in the scene.

GUNNER'S PARTNER - ROARK

This guy's big enough to go bear huntin' with a switch.

AGENT-SHRINK

Is SHE safe alone in there with him?

(PANEL) 16.

GUNNER'S PARTNER ROARK

Agent Gunkowski, you kidding? I was just wondering if he's safe in there with her.

We see many agents, soldiers and what appears to be random civilians leaving the arriving aircraft.

CIA AGENT

(to superior)

We have more aircraft in flux at multiple locations setting up the perimeter, Sir.

TV SCREEN -

REPORTER

Leader of the terrorist group RAH is claiming responsibility for providing the suspects in NYC with the weapons used for the EMP and claims this is just the beginning of the havoc to be seen all around the US and other Western enemy nations.

Clip plays of middle eastern terrorist speaking in their language on a video sent to the news stations. But wait... this person looks oddly familiar.

SCENE 6.

SCREEN 2 (PANEL) 17.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM

Gunkowski is in the interrogation room with Lightfield, grilling him.

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

So, this device you built you say is something the Nazis developed in WWII and you built it to prove to the world that this technology is possible - flying saucer... technology and free energy...?(skeptical)

Lightfield is hunched over and speaking so low he can barely be heard, even with the sensitive mics in the interrogation room. We can barely see his eyes and expression under his slightly long hair hanging covering his face.

LIGHTFIELD

Again, I don't have time to go into this in depth. I know you and everyone think this is crazy. You have to listen to this as carefully as you can. Someone like you can dig into this and find the truth. That's why I did all this.

I know I won't have long to explain this to you so this won't make much sense. Yes, I'm sure you have heard all about THE ORDER OF THE FREEMASONS who run this country. They are the people who have suppressed all of this. But that isn't all, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

All the FLYING SAUCERS you see and hear people talking about aren't aliens.. they are government craft. The U.S. has had antigravity craft since the end of WWII as well as solutions to the world's energy problems. And they have used an immense DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN to suppress this information and slow down the progress of technological development. These people will stop at nothing to keep this secret.

And you say they use MIND CONTROL to control people throughout society?

LIGHTFIELD

Yes, they developed this based on work started during WWII. The U.S.. continued on with this development using scientists they brought over in a program called project PAPERCLIP. All this information is documented throughout society but people refuse to take it seriously and there are details that people are not aware of.

So, am I mind controlled too?

LIGHTFIELD

In a way, yes. everyone in this country is, and all around the world.

If these people are as all powerful as you claim how is it you have survived this long without them killing you or stopping you from finding and spreading the truth?

LIGHTFIELD

I was very cautious about who I communicated with online and how much info I revealed. Only attempting to communicated with people I felt certain could be trusted. But trying to get this info across quickly is really impossible. There are many many reasons for this. The people in power know this.

How is it you were able to develop this and no one else?

LIGHTFIELD

I have weird abilities.. I am sure your people will discover this soon enough anyway.. I have aspergers syndrome. but...

It's very sad and we are working to try to understand this threat more and more. We need to educate the public and show people that people with autism are not more dangerous than anyone else. This is simply an anomaly.

Here we go, he has Aspergers syndrome, that explains a lot. Especially the paranoid delusions.

FBI SHRINK

Not long ago that was considered a myth - Aspergers sufferers being delusional. People with aspergers/autism were actually said to see the world as it is, it is we, the neurotypicals, who see the world in a kind of mass delusional state - people with aspergers were said not to get caught up in a communal interpretation of things. This is why people with aspergers have trouble fitting in to social constructs. It was only after this recent spate of mass shootings by those diagnosed with aspergers that the department of homeland security's threat assessment division's studies that we found this causal link between autism and some kind of schizophrenia.

FBI ASSISTANT

This could be just what we need... as you all know the nation is in a panic because of this EMP incident. Everyone around the country is in fear of another EMP attack. The president's staff wants answers about where things stand and what he can tell the nation. How he can ease their concerns. We need to get this out to the president and the media that the suspect has Asperger's syndrome and that indications point to this being an isolated incident rather than a worldwide terrorist plot.

FBI DIRECTOR

Ramirez, We need to get this info out on the wire, immediately.

We see a computer monitor screen with Lightfield's information on it.

AGENT 1

Sir, we received authorization from homeland security to do a full sweep of all data stored on the suspect. this is all the data our search algorithms have acquired at this time - within a half an hour we should have all of it mined and a full *a-intel psychological profile generated on him and his immediate family and everyone in his social network.

FBI DIRECTOR

The suspect appears to be a full blown schizophrenic,but is it legitimate or an act?

*A-INTEL IS A ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PROGRAM DESIGNED TO GENERATE A PROFILE ON A SUSPECT USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ALGORITHMS IN A FRACTION OF THE TIME IT WOULD TAKE USING CONVENTIONAL COMPUTERS.

The government agents head right for the crime scene and start taking charge.

The reporters begin claiming law abiding citizens were looters at the scene and who would not stay in their homes or beyond the perimeter, were detained.

Other agents begin dealing with the neighbors at the scene.

We see the CIA efficiently storming the FBI building taking control.

... People with aspergers have been demonized by these same people. When I started trying to contact people anonymously and telling them about what I discovered, and how - because of my Asperger traits, one after another these violent aspergers events started happening.

These people in power knew. They knew this was the only way I could explain what I had discovered even though... I didn't appear to be someone who could understand it.

Yes, I've been working on this for many years, researching and developing the technology. I have been trying to contact people like you here and anyone I could find in the media who might be open to understanding all this. I got nowhere. People refused to believe this was possible. I had to find a creative way to get people's attention... something that they wouldn't just blow off and ignore I tried every other method before I made a graphic novel trying to explain everything I even sent one to you but never got a reply back. Probably because it was a comic book.

I've never seen a more complex delusion. Most schizophrenics have elaborate mental constructs but I have never seen anything like this.

We see Lightfield writing something down with his hands cuffed in front of him.

LIGHTFIELD

Agent Gunkowski, they are going to come take me away soon... you have to find a way to get this info to the masses after that happens, and ensure your own safety. They will come after you now, too, because of what you have seen. but I know if there is anyone who can get through this it's you.

Look up this information as soon as you can - do a search for "Jim Garrison, playboy interview", keyword search "goose-stepping" on the pages of the interview.

Also look for a documentary called Westall 66, look for the incident involving the government man who intimidates the little girl. It's the same person and he will use the same tactics on you.

FBI agent, this area is now under CIA control. This incident falls under the auspices and ministrations of international terrorism.

AGENT HARRISON

Agents begin swarming the crime scene loading evidence totes into storage containers.

(PANEL) 29.

Agents are escorted away from the crime scene despite their protests.

FBI MAIN OFFICE SPACE.

We see Agent Gunkowski in the main office room with several FBI AGENTS and Lightfield in tow, looking through the glass walls of her Manhattan FBI OFFICE at her director, who looks like a kid in the Principal's office. And it's his own office he's being instructed in by a superior, it seems. The CIA appears to have taken the entire office over.

The FBI director comes out with CIA director Agent Jones.

If you refuse, both you and your seniors will be charged with treason and deemed enemies of the state and forcible action will be taken.

The tension has been rising dramatically from the beginning of this confrontation... by this point it's reached "Mexican stand-off" level with all agents in the room, FBI and CIA. Agent Gunkowski hasn't reached for her gun yet but the thought has definitely crossed her mind at this point and luckily her PARTNER is aware of this before everyone. He steps between them and tries to rein her in. And he thought that if he wasn't mistaken or crazy he could swear the CIA goons were about to go for their guns, too

Did I wake up in the wrong country or something? Is this really happening...?

We see River observing all this from his hidden location afar, using an old school telephoto lens with a shotgun mic attached to get an up-close view.

He peers over the edge of the building and sees CIA agents confronting an elderly black man.

What was it you saw Mr. Smith?

MR. Smith

It looked like some kind of disk shaped device...

That's not at all what I stated..

This is a very dire matter Mr. Smith. The nation is in a panic over this incident as well as others in recent months. If careless statements are made this panic will only intensify. We cannot tolerate that Mr. Smith. We would hate to see anything happen to you financially Mr. Smith. You are near retirement. It would be a shame if some clerical error put that in jeopardy.[some threat like this]

INT. CRAWFORD'S OFFICE

We cut a few moments ahead in time, Agent Jones is in Crawford's office. We see Agent Jones speaking on his cell phone while looking at the FBI agents and Agent Gunkowski through the glass and holding eye contact with his number one CIA agent who gives a barely perceptible nod, as if in communication with Agent Jones through his small ear piece. The number one agent then does the same to his lessors speaking into what must be a wrist microphone.

(PANEL) 40.

Agent Jones then motions for agent Gunkowski to come in the office.

Agent Jones

Have a seat agent Gunkowski.

(PANEL) 41.

When Agent Gunkowski is seated his congenial demeanor instantly vanishes.

You don't realize what you are up against here. You have a choice, either you convince your men to release the suspect or things will go very badly for you and the people you care about. Like your partner for example and his family.

If you try to tell anyone what I am telling you now you will only exacerbate your situation. You may not have any immdeiate family you are close to... but your partner and coleagues will die in the most gruesomely painful way imaginable and they will know it's you that has caused their suffering. I can assure you that this isn't an idle threat. We have done it many times before and we will do it many more. WHAT IS YOUR DECISION AGENT?

(PANEL) 42.

Something in Agent Gunkowski has broken.. she is no longer the same person. It's as if she is now a robot.

When Agent Jones threatens Gunner we see in her mind she is going over the things Lightfield said - images flashing and his claims of how the world really works flashing in her mind... she realizes they are true - in the Instant from when he gives her the ultimatum to when she makes the decision - it's a flash.

Agent Gunkowski gets up, still a robot. Walking dazedly to the door. It's obvious she no longer understands if this is reality or a dream. But under the circumstances can't risk exploring that mystery.

FBI OFFICE FLOOR

Agent Gunkowski speaks to her fellow agents and tells them to take Lightfield to a holding room. Her partner sees there's something odd about her.. notices her voice is unusually soft and without her normal strength. He's never seen his partner scared before, but he suddenly realizes that's what her face is saying.

Take the suspect to a holding room.

(PANEL) 45.

These are his.(HANDING HER iFrames TO THE AGENT)

You can't see without these, right? (She gives an exclamation mark to the statement with the look she gives him when she says this)

CIA AGENT

The evidence, agent Gunkowski. We will take that immediately. Agents, please escort Gunkowski to help her make sure she doesn't miss anything.

Agent Gunkowski walks robotically to her office, her partner and the CIA agents following behind.

As River watches neighbors being railroaded all around the scene he forgets he's supposed to be hiding himself.

(Into communication device while watching River)

We've got an intruder on the scene... Agents G12 and R2 security detail converge on the targeted location.

Agent Gunkowski begins gathering the evidence she amassed on Lightfield preparing to transfer it to the CIA agents. Intentionally holding back the note Lightfield wrote her.

Partner, give me your iFrames, quick. (partner digs them out of his pocket)

(PANEL) 49.

Agent Gunkowski uses her partner's iFrames to call Lightfield on her own iFrames she gave to him.

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

Lightfield, if you can hear me don't speak, tap your iFrames on the right temple 3 times. Use your index finger to select the camera out function on the iFrame arm scroll surface.

Lightfield's VIEW COMES IN ON Agent Gunkowski'S glasses.

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

Good, good. You can hear me. We are going to try to get you out of here. Hang tight until we can figure something out.

What happened in there? (a hint of fear in his eyes now)

AGENT GUNKOWSKI

Roark, how far are you willing to take things... I mean if you thought everything we took this job for in the first place was at stake?

I am saying we have to decide right now how far we are willing to go. It could cost literally everything that means something to you.

We need to get everyone else on board we can.

We need surveillance on these guys to figure out how we can get the suspect out of here and into a safe house as a key witness. We need to monitor their communications and activities.

Agent Gunkowski and Roark hear Lightfield's name mentioned on CNZ news show. They are repeating the info the CIA's people fed them in a previous scene. It's total BS, and talks about Lightfield being a "violent aspie."

As agents surround the building River is on top of, River is talking with the mic of his recorder to his mouth.

2:23 a.m. witnessed what appears to be CIA agents roughing up and threatening neighbors around the crime scene...

At that moment River sees the agents heading to the fire escape below him..

Suddenly we see one of the CIA agents enter Lightfield's detention room. He lays an automatic service weapon on the table like an expressionless waiter leaving the check.

The CIA director is exiting Crawford's office, he's exiting the building with an escort team but the rest of the agents are remaining.

Roark, we have to make our move, like right now. Can we cut the power?

(PANEL) 65.

Agent Gunkowski

I'll give you the go.

Tell everyone to get their iFrames - use the night vision feature.

We're going to hit Crawford's office first and disable whatever they are using in there.

(PANEL) 66.

Agent Gunkowski iFrames POV

We hear an animal-like guttural noise that sounds very slightly human.

Agent Gunkowski sees Lightfield's iFrames POV again, but this time the camera view is from the ground because he's knocked them off his face, he's broken his handcuffs and is pounding on the door. we finally get an idea of his true size and strength - the door booms. he hasn't used the gun yet but it seems likely to happen soon.

Was that Lightfield?

It's now or never! Let's go!

Murray, Ramirez, Spangler, AND Bresnan take the main office in front of Crawford's. Engel, Brennan Roark and Portman we will get Lightfield when you signal you have taken out agent Jones' #1.

Cut the power now!

FBI TECH GUY

Engineer, cut it!

We see all the power in the building cut out. All the FBI agents grabbing for their guns. bursting from their offices.

Someone from corporate contacted him and he took off right away. I've never seen him as on edge as he was after whoever he talked to.

Lightfield and Agent Gunkowski don't know it.. but an Asian woman on the street notices them, not thinking anything of it at the time, but they will soon see how important it is.

I saw them helicoptering in witnesses and media to skew the public view of events to their own agenda and probably to cover up something really big.

MATILDA

Why are you afraid to tell everyone here what happened? That could keep you alive.

They would think I am crazy... no one believes in this stuff. I sure didn't. Plus half these guys would kill their own mother to get stories like this even if they did believe me. And they could care less if they get the story right.
