Facility

The sounds of water dropping and humming were heard. A young man in his early twenties woke up drenched in sweat. He touched his forehead as he glanced at himself. A dark yellow old carpet beneath him. Hundreds of yellow walls and lights on the ceiling cover each square of this place. The humming from the light made him feel nauseous as he tried to get a hold of himself.

Louis Wright, the young detective, looked around feeling awfully weirded out. For no reason, he was sent to this strange place. He doesn’t even recall much of the previous night. He sat upright as he began pondering.

Firstly, I was assigned a mission by a person named Ethan Clark. He wished me to find out about the hidden secrets of the White Palace. Naturally, I would not take it, but he offered a hefty price of fifty pounds! I shall never be an idiot again. So, I accepted. I gave him my contact information and he soon disappeared, leaving me alone.

I began working on this job on the 17th of 1942. And concluded it on the 29th of the same year. I sent him a letter wishing to meet him and he sent a letter back saying he would come by the 31st. He never did. Of course, there was a prepaid contract. Meaning that he had to pay five pounds for assigning me this mission. I wondered if it was all a scam!

However, on the 3rd of July of the same year, he appeared with a few other people. I forced them to leave and began telling him all the information I’d gathered. He was happy with all of that and gave me double the price of one hundred pounds! I was so happy and forgot about my poetic and cold detective personality…

Soon after he left happily, and I’ve never seen him again. But ever since that day, I’ve started to hear voices and go insane. Sometimes I can’t even control myself. Yesterday was the 7th meaning today must be the 8th of July….

The Secrets of the White Palace… Why did he need to know that White Angel or the fraud in my eyes was just a person who stole ideas from another man? This so-called Failed God is praised by everyone when he took all the ideas and concepts from another man!

Louis Wright was deeply angry as he shook his head. He stood up from the ground and inspected the place for a few minutes before letting out a deep sigh. He had concluded that the government had taken him for an experiment or that bastard Ethan Clark had ratted him out.

As the drops of rain fell from the ceiling Louis shook his head as he paced back and forth. It was an old habit of his whenever he was deep in thought. As he paced back and forth, he heard a loud chime and glared instantly up. A loud voice echoed. “Successful.” A man appeared out of thin air. It was a bulky man with a broken monocle. He sat there breathing heavily.

Looking around the man was taken aback as he saw the endless walls with no doors or windows. Before looking up at the young man who was puzzled at the scene. The bulky man stumbled as he shook his and gulped.

“No, no! You’re the guy from yesterday, you must’ve kidnapped me or something. Let me out of here!”

He screamed loudly. Louis was perplexed as he glared at the man with blonde hair and deep oceanlike eyes acting immaturely. Laughing out loudly, Louis shook his head in delight before speaking up.

“No, no. You must have confused me with someone else. Anyway, you also seem to be a part of this experiment by the government. However, I didn’t expect them to have access to teleportation magic this quickly…” Louis spoke up.

The bulky man was on his knees begging. “Is it money you want? I can give you. Just please let me out of here.”

As he was grieving another loud chime was heard and a female voice from earlier said the same word. “Successful.” An old man appeared, and he was shaking uncontrollably. He looked at the scenery before looking at the two in front of him.

“What in the world? Y-you’re the dead person. And you are too!” He shouted out as he backed away before laughing anxiously. “I-I must be dead too, heh. Sylvia, it seems you must continue without me.”

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

Louis and Kerran looked at Russel before shaking their heads at the same time. “Who are you?” They said at the same time their voices echoing. Before he could answer another loud chime was heard. This time it had a different tone. The female voice began speaking up.

“Welcome, the dead. This is called the facility. You must begin living here for a full decade or multiple. Even perhaps your entire lifetime before you died. Well, that is to say, if you find the exist. An endless maze filled with randomly placed locations and whatnot. If you find the exist, you will return and reincarnate with all your memories.

“Remember, the dead. That a monster and monsters are roaming. If you die, you die. Is that clear? Great. Good luck.” The voice disappeared and a robotic voice replaced it followed by a deep chime.

“Starting protocol.”

Louis and the other two looked at each other puzzled. The lights flickered for a few moments before returning to normal. Feeling surprised, Russel walked towards a wall.

“I’m done. I’m not doing this.”

The bulky man touched his hair as he chuckled anxiously. “I’m going to die. I’m dead and then I’m going to die again. Who has placed this curse upon me?!?”

Louis was the only one with a calm expression. He felt slightly puzzled and anxious, however, he listened to what the woman said. He stroked his chin lightly as he was deep in thought. The old moldy smell occurred in his nostrils, but he didn’t care about it for now. There was another major problem. If what the woman said was correct, he was probably dead.

The problem is that I can’t figure out why… Why would I die? A sudden illness? Or perhaps I was targeted by Ethan Clark or someone poisoned me. Perhaps the 100 pounds were poisoned in a way…

Louis massaged his temples before letting out a sigh. He looked at the yellow walls before looking back at the two people.

“I need you two to take this seriously. We must escape or according to this woman we will die in the hands of a monster or perhaps we will never get out of here.” He said in a confident and anxious voice. Russel sighed as he stood up. His deep blue eyes glimmered with light as he nodded slightly. Grover stood up too, but he didn’t nod. He silently gulped as sweat formed on his forehead.

Russel then spoke up. “Do you have a plan?”

Louis didn’t answer as he looked at the lights that hummed. “Escape, I guess. I don’t know where we can escape but the first step is to explore. Indeed, explore.”

Louis has considered reporting this to the Mighty Order if he managed to get out of there. But how could he explain it? That he had reincarnated. That would seem like nonsense!

As he shook his head, he lightly began walking towards an opening between the walls that was scattered everywhere. Every wall had an opening leading to the same walls with a different outline. The old moldy carpet was slightly cold, and the air here was filled with dust particles. Russel and Kerran followed along as they looked around the place. It was clear that none of them could believe that this was real, so they went silent, only following in Louis’s footsteps.

Louis was a calm and rational man. He never underestimated things, nor did he overestimate. Whatever information he was given he worked with it. This time around it was different. Only one goal is to escape and not get murdered, which seemed to be difficult but who knows what monster would be lurking.

In the back, Kerran was praying silently. “Oh, great Mother Earth. Goddess, please bestow me. Help me in this case. I will forever be grateful.”

He was the only religious person of the three as Russel never believed in anything and Louis had no interest in religion. Louis looked back at Grover before muttering silently. “Why is a finite life punishable by an infinite afterlife? Heaven and hell, no of the two are good.” He said as he shook his head in a cold manner.

Louis strongly opposed religion, but he was open to learning. The Revelation of Mother Earth or Book of Life had a lot of contradictions according to him. But he kept it to himself as if he didn’t want to ruin his business. A detective couldn’t ruin getting clients of course.

As the dampness thickened, Louis stopped thinking so much and focused on the thing in front of him. A large slide was seen ascending downwards. Beside it, a black scribble was also seen that read, “Leave, Don’t Return.” Louis felt skeptical and did not want to go down the slide.

The tycoon Grover looked at the slide with discomfort and shouted at Louis after taking a few steps back. “You slide down first!” Louis looked at him irritated before speaking up himself.

“No. No one is going down that slide. It’s clearly something down there. Perhaps new scenery? Before we even THINK about going down there. We should look around a bit more.”

Russel chimed in irritated at all of this. “This is all clearly some sort of prank. Also, these walls, whatever this place, look endless. There is no end to it it stretches out infinitely.”

Louis couldn’t answer as his mind was filled with thoughts. There was clearly no logical explanation for any of this, thus his silence. The tycoon chimed in feeling annoyed about all of this.

“Just go down the slide and tell us if it is safe!” He shouted out once again.

Should I kill him? Louis thought as he clenched his jaw angrily. He took a deep breath. Massaging his temples lightly he let out a sigh and spoke up. “Fine. Let’s go down the slide.”
