At the foot of a mountain lay the entrance to a large tunnel-like cave. Various flora and fauna had grown over it, leaving little light to seep through the gaps. Within the cave, stalactites of differing sizes hung from the ceiling. Further in was a larger chamber, moonlight shining down through a large crack in the top right cavern. To the opposite side of the crack, a large pool of water remained, the moonlight shining down on the water, reflecting onto the walls of the cavern. Beside the pool of water, rested an egg that stood 6ft tall, adorned with blood-red scales and accents as black as the night sky, the moonlight from the crack reflected off the water onto the egg which caused it to shine beautifully, as if it was emanating a red glow.
Crack
The eggshell began to fracture.
"Hm? Is it hatching? A melodic female voice came from the darkness, filled with anticipation.
A deep resonant voice responded "It would seem so"
A large vibrant crimson dragon emerged from the darkness behind the egg, its horns long and slightly curved up, its eyes burning a fiery bright gold, each containing a black slit focused on the egg that sat significantly smaller than the dragon. Getting closer to the egg, the dragon inspected it, seeing more cracks spread across its surface.
A joyful smile formed on her face, her large spiked tail began to sway side to side and her eyes filled with warmth and contentment "It's time, it's finally time" she excitedly roared.
Another dragon emerged, its scales black, only showing a hint of an iridescent green when touched by the moonlight. The left side of its head had a long scar running from its horn to just beneath its eye. The dragon had two horns protruding from the back of its head, the left one broken and cracked, the other, large and straight. two more smaller horns sat beneath the larger two, slightly curved down. The black dragon's eyes shined an emerald green, calm yet beautiful - the dragon's signature black slit pupil stared down at the egg, waiting patiently for it to hatch.
With a final resounding crack, the top part of the egg fell off, revealing the form of a dragon, tiny compared to the two giants standing before it.
As the eggshell cracked open, a baby dragon presented itself, rising from the egg and revealing its captivating appearance. The dragon's pitch-black scales shimmered with a subtle yet mesmerizing purple iridescence, giving off a magical aura. The four small and straight horns at the back of its head added to its imposing presence, with two of them being slightly smaller.
The dragon's eyes were a fiery shade of purple, glinting with intelligence and curiosity as they surveyed the cavern. The dragon's gaze wandered around the vast cavern, taking in its surroundings until it finally turned around and caught sight of its parents looking down at it. The parents gazed back with pride and affection, their eyes filled with love and admiration for their newborn.

"Oh, she is just the cutest!" The red dragon was filled with pure joy as she grew closer, her tail wagging faster as she admired her daughter's iridescence. However, her excitement dampened slightly as she remarked, slightly dejected "It seems she mostly took after you. There's not even a hint of my beautiful red scales"
"Offspring mostly take after the parent with a higher capacity of magic" Verethorn happily explained "It's quite common. Nevertheless, she's a beautiful little hatchling." With a gentle nudge towards Fyrielle, he added, "I'm sure she has your spirit, though, her eyes speak volumes. As for the purple... it signifies magical prowess"
The baby dragon looked up to her mother, readily putting her front claws onto her eggshell and swiftly pouncing onto her mother's snout. Revealing her back to have long thin spikes running down its back, each of them connected with a dark grey sail, similar to its mother.
"Well aren't you a playful little one" the red dragon remarked, gently waving her head around as if to encourage the hatchling. Playing along, the hatchling, began to chirp excitedly, her tiny voice rising in pitch with each chirp.
After a few minutes of playing, the red dragon lowered her head to the ground, the hatchling gently sliding onto the floor of the cavern.
Verethorn explained, "In my family, we typically name our offspring after significant events or natural phenomena that coincide with their hatching." He pondered for a moment before continuing "In this case, there is currently a full moon. How about Luna?"
The little black dragon stumbled to her feet, her movements clumsy yet eager as she ran toward her father. Her tail wagged enthusiastically at the suggestion, letting out a series of chirps and squeaks as she got closer.
The red dragon turned to the black dragon, her head slightly tilted, thinking for a moment.
"Luna..." she murmured, testing the name on her tongue "Yes, I quite like that" she continued, straightening her head "My family shares a similar tradition. We incorporate parts of our names when naming our offspring." Her voice warm with a fondness evident in her expression. The red dragon turned to her newly named daughter, a heart-warmed smile formed on her face "Lunafyreth" she declared, the name a loving fusion of tradition and uniqueness, spoken with pride and affection.
"A perfect addition" The black dragon replied, his deep voice resonating throughout the cavern "a name that honours both our traditions and lineages"
The red dragon approached the hatchling, lowering her head, and gaining the hatchling's attention.
"I, Fyrielle, daughter of the great fire dragon Igniel, The Dwarven Furnace-"
The black dragon interrupted, Fyrielle turned to glare at him, letting out a deep growl "And I, Verethorn, son of Eldania, The Guardian of Yggdrasil, together we grant you the name, Lunafyreth"
