Ch. 8 Training Days

Ch. 8 Training Days

Okay Aaron said Ace as he paced back and forth in front of me. We do not have much time. I must turn you into a lean mean warrior of the hunt if you are to survive. “Oh, so we’re just gonna skip over the, “Dreamwings”, explanation too huh? I look him in the face and all I get is a blank stare in return. He then continues. We have four days until the board starts to become suspicious of my whereabouts. Five days until the Tracker finds us according to my sources. Any questions? Yeah, I say, how am I supposed to learn how to kill a dragon, and actually be able to put those skills into play in five freaking days! Oh, didn’t I tell you he says time passes differently in this villa. One day outside is the equivalent of one month in here, he says. Quickly doing the math I say aloud, well spring training for sports is three months, and so is probation for a new job, so I guess that’ll work. A few minutes later he had me running an obstacle course isn’t quite right, it was more like a gauntlet of death the size of a football field. According to him all I had to do was make it to the end zone a.k.a. safe zone in one piece. Ha-ha, I thought, doesn’t he know you can be dead but still in one piece. The whole training room looked like a scene out of an Indiana Jones movie with the traps exposed but ready to fire. Not that knowing they were there made a whole lot of difference in the way that I was shaking in my boots and feeling like any second I would feel a warm liquid sensation running down my leg. Alas, judging from the number of blades, spikes, arrows, poisonous, insects, snakes, and colliding walls of stone I’m pretty sure it would be a quick death. So, here I was yet again none the less, staring certain doom in the face running right into it, and this was still just day one.

Left. Right. Left. Right. Roundhouse. Leg sweep. Uppercut. Reverse hook kick. Ow, I say to myself as I struggle to get up breaking it down in my head the movements that lead to me being sprawled out on the floor chest hurting. It was the reverse hook kick that caught me square in the chest. I wasn’t expecting to see her use a combo straight out of one of my favorite video games, Tekken. Then again given how things have turned out I’m sure now, that mom had a reason for that too.

So, of course she herself would be able to perform these moves in real time reality.

She walks over to me and helps me up. I think that’s enough for today she says before looking to the right. Err… umm…what you think Ace she says hesitantly after a moment. Ace de-camouflages, and walks over from the corner. I know he’s been disappearing a lot lately but unlike our earlier bouts I can’t seem to tell when he returns. Mom on the other hand always spots him even in her human form unlike me. I wonder if it has something to do with their history, like when you know someone very well and it’s like you can sense their presence especially when it’s in the intimate sense. Then again perhaps I just need a lot more training. Anyway, he walks over to her and again they have one of those patented silent conversations. This again pisses me off because it means they’re still keeping secrets. Here I am busting my tail day in and day out and still I’m treated like a child, like I never left the nest to go to college and survived all those months by myself even after losing my scholarships due to poor grades from too many late nights of drinking and partying. I mean seriously, it’s my life that’s on the line here. I didn’t ask for any of this. It was the two of you, no correction, three of you who made these decisions clearly without my consent that I am having to suffer through, bleed through, and maybe even die from as a result of your selfish judgement. But hey, what do I know I’m just obediently supposed to save the world… somehow.

Eventually, he gives her a look and she says a firm no aloud and then the conversation starts to have audio. Ace asks mom why not and she tells him something like I wouldn’t be able to handle the backlash and it would be like sending up a flare for, ALL OF THEM, to see as well and then there would be no more hiding. Ace continues to try to argue that it would be the most efficient way to gather them all, whoever them all is. Not only do I not know who he’s referring to which is increasingly annoying as I’ve said before, but then he gets frustrated and says something majorly derogatory and disrespectful in Greek that I actually do understand, immediately comprehend, but do not care to repeat.

Now I must say, regardless of all the differences as of late she still is my mom. Despite any resentment I might currently have for my mother at this time in regards to the enormous secrets she has withheld from me; she was the one that stayed. It was her that raised me, feed me, picked me up when I fell , wrote words of encouragement in cards, and letters sneaking them into my textbooks, clothes, wiped my tears away and told me everything would be okay. Alongside my father Thomas, who for all intents and purposes is and always will be my father regardless of what DNA may or may not say on the matter. Therefore, forgive me if my reaction to that was a little heated, or hot headed. I don’t take lightly to hearing any man call a woman that, let alone the words he lead with, Greek or not. So, what do I do? I pull back on Sol Sagax string forging a golden crimson hot arrow completely made of fire and send it straight for him as he walks away mumbling those words. For the record it wasn’t the most powerful arrow I’ve formed with Sunlight Piercer do to the fact that it is intended to be a warning shot to get his attention. Just like in training he turns and catches it in his hand just before impact. As, I walked past him I spoke in a low voice so that mom couldn’t easily hear the promise I was making. You may have spawned me but talk bad about my mother, in that manner again and you won’t have to worry about raising the sun another day. With that I decided to hit the showers, and let cooler heads prevail.
