Ch. 11 Shifting Tides

Ch. 11 Shifting Tides

I look back to the sentry who just a minute ago was trying to kill me. Her head is bowed, and her one remaining arm is across her chest. She still has no logs and is only upright because her sister sentry. Place her on her torso where the legs should be. I still don’t trust her and so refuse to take my eyes off her while I talk to the other one. She apologizes now referring to me as master and asks if there is any way that they can be of assistance. It’s been increasingly difficult to even catch my breath since I‘ve been in this crouched position. My vision has already become extremely blurred and just as I’m about to respond I start to cough up blood. Everything is spinning, and I can even feel myself sliding down the wall when something else sticks me in the gut. I can’t tell what it is at the moment because my eyes are rolling to the back of my head. Next thing I know my eyes snap open, and I’m back, alert, and aware. Strange, I think as a weird feeling in my body starts to spread. The sensation is like ants in my veins crawling around wildly exploring my innards like an amusement park. My fatigue is erased, and I sit back up. After about my sixth or seventh deep breath I look down towards my abdomen feeling something abnormal protruding from it. What I find is something most resembling a tranquilizer dart with the canister portion now empty. I pull it out, and stare at my stomach as I watch the bruise on my side rapidly disappear. The bones in my ribs groan and squeak like an old door and snap back into proper position. My organs slosh around to mending themselves. Seconds later, I am back on my feet and I feel reborn. Wow! I say out loud looking myself over clenching my first and flexing my muscles what in the world was in that syringe? The sentries explain to me that it was concentrated essence of a rare herb known as Tahasun. It can easily heal torn tissue and broken bones though they wouldn’t suggest using it on a normal person because regular people can’t handle the amount of raw energy the herb contains in its concentrated state. The effects for them would be like injecting magma into their veins and they would literally melt away. Dully noted I reply.

Again they apologize as I cautiously walk passed. Yea, yea, as much as I’d like to resent you we have more pressing business now get up and help me out. Yes, Master Aaron they said in unison as they begin to follow. I stand on the platform in the back near the one way mirror and for the first time I am able to get a good look at the battle raging on. Aristotle had recovered and returned to his Polar bear size ripping through what looked to be like skeletal warriors with Greek helmets, swords and shields. What on earth are those? The sentry still in one piece tells me that they are dragon teeth warriors. Warriors that are spawned by planting the teeth of dragons into the ground, as first done by Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece. Mmhmm great so the enemy has an instant army on standby. Speaking of which when your partner there was still trying to kill me, you mentioned something about a blacklist. Do you know who’s attacking us? “Yes, yes we do.” His name is Orion and he is the greatest hunter who ever lived. The skills he possessed with the bow were so high that he was rumored to have been even better than your father, Apollo, Greek god of both hunting and archery. No one else could even come close. Soon his talent even caught the attention of Artemis, your father’s twin sister, and the night to his day. A very rare accomplishment this is and a feat achieved by only two others. The sentry continuous on to say that the true reasons for his death are still covered in mystery known only to Apollo, Artemis and himself. Though rumors say he died at the hands of either Artemis or the spirit of the zodiac Scorpio. It all sounded a little sketchy to me but whatever. Apparently, right now, he is very much alive.

The battle down there rages on with magical explosions so abundant I can hardly see a thing that’s going on. Streaks of fire and twinkling starlight fly to and from at every angle. I stand here watching with the master control orb for the training room in my hands that I asked for moments ago. With this orb I can instantly change the climate and topography of the room. Anything from a tropical island to an underwater sea cavern will warp and environment and its animal inhabitants, almost like the matrix. The only question is what place do I choose?

Grappling the orb I start to focus on the only climate I can think of that an ancient master hunter probably knows nothing about. The ceiling of the stadium starts to melt away and yields to a starry night. Tall buildings, skyscrapers, and big rigs shift into view as my vague memories of Kansas City begin to materialize onto the battlefield.

Both sides stop in their tracks to look around. There’s no doubt in my mind that a majority of them are surprised by the sudden swift and unexpected change in scenery. However, just before diving into a newly appeared Marriott hotel a smirk crosses over a woman’s face in the left corner of the newly imagined cityscape. I haven’t been able to catch a glimpse of her through all the chaos up until now. I immediately know I’ve made the right choice though from the expression on her face. She’s been here before with someone else and that someone else is me. Go get’em Mom! I say, through the self-projection, I’ve materialized at her location to inform her of the situation. She nods her head and takes off. I must say for the first time in all of this, I feel like the tides are changing.
