The Creature

Narrator: The sunset rises upon the horizon of the green plains, giving warmth to everything it touched with it’s rays of lights. The town in the far distance that once laid dead, now breathed smoke out into the blue skies. The people within the town started to rise, and the animals started to awoke from their slumber.

Narrator: Far from the town, an ivy covered tower stayed within sight of the inhabitants who only ponder and gaze at it’s antiquity and history drawn and printed into the walls of the towers. Further down the plains, and into the mountains lay the ruins of a castle. Where a legend is told and held.

David: Hmm, Lucy what should we do today?

Lucy: …. do our daily chores, and hope to wander off and catch some sleep, what else can we do?

David: Well, I heard from the villagers that apparently the king has ordered our watchman to send a knight to slay a beast within the village’s territory.

Lucy: Go on…

David: Apparently the beast within the territory now dwells within the ruins of the ancient kingdom of Nettle; he soars within the night skies, and howls with his might showing it’s abilities to crush and destroy all foes that wander near.

Lucy: You sure about that? How close do you have to be for it to show it’s might?

David: Umm… around the castle? Territory? Yea...It’s called territory.

Lucy: (Disappointed) well, nice story…

David: Also… the knight goes off tonight…

Lucy: Tonight?

David: Yes… wanna go with?

Lucy: Sure, I guess… beats having to listen to my parents chatter on about the quality of mutton and cow steaks these days…

(Change Scene)

Narrator: Lucy and David hid within the shadows of the alley, as the man in white armor came out of the small inn, and climbed up upon his armored horse. Eventually the watchman walked out from the inn and bid goodnight to the inhabitants.

Watchman: Well, how’s the village white knight?

White Knight: Fine… I must be off to complete my task to the king.

Watchman: Alright, off you go then… may you return safely. If you do not return within three day’s time. We will consider you dead and had failed our liege in this assignment.

White Knight: Consider it done… Onwards!

(The white knight snaps the horse to attention and rode off into the distance. The white cloak fluttered high into the air, and the armor of the knight shined within the blue moon’s soft blankets that glowed through the thick branches of the shadows of the trees.)

David: Come on! We have to see the creature before the knight gets to it…

Lucy: What? How’re we going to chase after a horse with our bare feets? AND DON’T EVEN consider riding inside the pig wagon again...

Lucy looked at David with disappointment when he was about to climb into a wagon filled with pigs.

David: What? This farmer is going to sell these pigs in the north…. basically where we need to go…. and he’s going tonight as well, just wondering if he’s drunk or not…

Lucy: ….. maybe next time I’ll ignore your invitation…

David: Well, do it next time, and get in. I see the farmer coming out of the inn.

Lucy and David hopped into the pig wagon with little hesitation.

Lucy and David sat on the edge of the wagon, looking up into the sky for a moment, then a dark figure with wings flew out from the clouds and into the moon’s glare. As it met with the moon’s outline, it gave a horrendous roar, enough to make the trees tremble their leaves away. The dark figure immediately disappeared within the covers of the clouds.

(Change Scene)

David was sleeping on the corner of the wagons with his legs spread out, creating a distance from the pigs. While Lucy sat on the edge, taking a long gaze on the outside world that was steadily waking up.

Lucy: Wake up, we’re at the tower now….

David: (Drowsy) Ugh… that creature seems scary...that roar, I’m guessing the legend is true…

Lucy: Well we did see it, unless that was us hallucinating due to the disgusting pig wagon…

David: Whatever, at least we didn’t walk all the way here.

David and Lucy hopped off the wagon, and looked at the wagon to take a last look at it before it vanishes within the deep forest that headed north.

Lucy: So.. what now?

David: We take a look at… THE TOWER!

(he gestured at the tower with a grandiose pose, only with… dirty clothes)

Lucy simply ignored him and started to walk towards the ivy covered tower. David slumped in disappointment, and followed.

David: I wonder why they built this tower here… was it to place an outcast princess here? Or was it to summon a creature of the light when the four harbingers of doom have come for us?

Lucy: It’s a watchtower, you doof…

David: Doof? Was that an insult?

Lucy: Yes, a shorter phrase for doofus…

David: Is that even a word?

Lucy ignored him and walked up to the ivory tower’s door. The door was made of old oak, years of weather exposed conditions was apparent on the door, the colors were worn out and dull. There are cracks on the door showing that time and age has done it’s damage onto it.

David walked up and looked at Lucy then at the door.

David:... what are you waiting for? Open it…

Lucy tries to open it, but failed, David gave a long sigh, then started to position himself for the door.

Lucy: What are you doing?

David finally ran up towards the door and kicked down the door with his might. The old door gave way from the forceful kick and fell down with a large thud onto the old wooden floor, dust blew out into David and Lucy, and into the open air.

Lucy: *Cough* *Cough* what are you doing? You broke a door that belonged to an ancient ruin!

David: *Cough* *Cough* Don’t worry, it’s not like the door is going to be researched. *Cough*

Lucy: Come over here, there’s a book on the table.

David: What’s interesting about that? We have to check out the top for the weapons. (Smiles David)

Lucy opened the book, and started to study it’s contents.

Journal Entry: Day 31 In the Watchtower

Our captain has ordered us to hold out within this watchtower, and has yet to come back as promised. He went to the ruins of the old kingdom of Nettle. There are strange things that surrounds his aura, it’s as if he has become happier and somehow enchanted with something…. he has been going over to the ruins with bags of bones, and part of our rations as well. This will be the last day that we will rest here, our king requests our presences promptly.

Journal Entry: Day 32, Morning

Our captain’s mood seems sad, and is in pain for some reason… He continues to look over towards the ruins with longing and sadness. He haven’t touched his breakfast one bit… one bit I say, now I have to go pack up the equipment, s-

Lucy closed the book, and looked out the door and saw the ruins. David came back down, with some arrows in a quiver, a bow, and a short dagger on his waist.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

David: Hmm, you look pathetic today…

Lucy: Nothing, this diary seems strange… something’s weird in the ruins.

David: Well, good thing we’re heading over there to investigate.

(Change Scene)

Nightfall fell. Long blue shadows of the trees stretched onto the land. Two dark figures climbed the mountainous path.

Lucy: The chills! Why did I follow you? This adventure is so poorly planned, horrendously disgusting… we slept in a wagon filled with pigs and you just had to wreck that door, and now we have to walk on the cold path of the mountain!

David: Quit complaining, you already made me surrender my blanket to you…

Lucy: Of course, you are the host of this adventure therefore like housing rules, guest comes first.

David: But, there are no hou-

David: (Mutters) Adventure rules my Bu-

Lucy smacks David with a light smack on his mouth, causing him to sputter. They looked at the ruins in awe, the blue full moon shined upon the empty brick floors. Remains of the wall stood still, creating a large corner. The shields and swords lay on the ground useless, and cold.

David: Wow… nice isn’t it?

Lucy: Wow… it stinks here…

David: Shut up..

They stood there silently looking at the peaceful scene, until a dark figure flew up into the moonlight, which showed a large shadow across the ruins. David screamed and fainted onto the grass, Lucy watched with awe, and then looked back at David with disdain and disappointment. She grabbed her bow and readied herself. The dark figure flew closer, and eventually landed onto it’s claws on the brick floor.

Lucy watched and lowered her bow, and stood still. As the dark figure moved forward into the light, it’s face was eventually revealed. It’s face resembled a loyal dog, calm demeanor, and pure eyes that seemed innocent within the moonlight’s shine. The wings consisted of many dark colored feathers.

As Lucy watched, she saw and measured it’s size in thoughts, she stepped back away from the figure and knelt down. The figure’s body was as large as a gatehouse, and it’s head was as large as a large quaint mansion, it had wings that rivaled the watchtower’s height.

Lucy: Wake up, you sissy… (She tried to nudge David awake)

David: (mutters) please… don’t eat me, mom…

Lucy: What? your mom eats you? You have strange imaginations…. (She stood back up)

Lucy looked back up, and saw the beast looking at her, face to face. With no hesitation, she raised her hand and touched the beast’s nose. The beast closed it’s eyes and continued to breathe. Lucy smiled, as time passed on by. Suddenly a loud outroar breaks the silent atmosphere, shattering the beautiful scene with a bloodthirsty cry.

“DEMON! YOU DARE LAY HANDS ON OUR YOUNG KINS?

Lucy turned around and saw the white cape flutter within the moonlight, the sword shined at her face.

She instantly realised who it was… it was the White Knight.

White Knight: Our king is burden by your presence! And have ordered for your death! This task shall be completed with haste! By my sword and honor I shall end your LIFE!

The White Knight charged at the beast that sat there silently, it only watched the White Knight charge at him. Lucy yelled with plea, and tried to reason, but everything was covered by the yell of the White Knight.

The beast sat and watched, as the White Knight nears with his sword of steel… it only watched as he draws near. Lucy watched with tears, as the Knight slew the beast with no mercy. As each swings sliced into the heart of the beast, it’s dark blood covered the knight’s armor, turning his white cloak into dark red. The shine of the White Knight’s armor was drowned within the blood of the beast. The beast cried in pain, howling into the dark skies where the eyes are covered, unable to see the murder of an innocent soul.

The Knight, eventually finishes and walks off into the distance, he said some words to Lucy, but his words were covered in blood and pain, she couldn’t understand any of it. She can only hear the words “murderer” from the knight. As the knight walked off the mountain, Lucy crawled over to the beast that laid still. She felt it’s breath and got closer to it, and looked at it’s watery eyes. The beast quietly muttered its pain in silence, and Lucy got closer and hugged the beast’s nose.

Lucy: (Sobbing) why… why couldn’t you just fly away, or swipe that stupid knight off of his feet…. and live to see another beautiful day… (sob)

The beast only looked with its watery eyes, peering deep into her soul. It only whimpered in pain.

Lucy: (Sniff) you’re the last of your kind… your heart is too pure to be in this world anymore… as you watch your species perish one by one you continue to watch with innocence… you’re such a doof… (sniff)

The clouds that covered the moon now, moved away, letting the moonlight shine onto the beast.

Lucy: You should go… escape this suffering and pain, and into the lights of the sky, who’s ready to receive your kind, and beautiful soul…. farewell kind beast...

The creature’s eyes looked into the moonlight and eventually breathed its last. As it breathed its last it closed its eyes peacefully.

AFTERMATH

Aftermath-

David wakes up looking at a blanket over his body, and they were at the plains near the ivory tower.

David: ?? What happened to the beast?

Lucy: He came and greeted us, then left us alone peacefully.

David: What? He didn’t eat us?

Lucy: No, he didn’t… he was simply too kind and innocent for this hateful world.

David: When did you get so friendly with the beast? Also when did you get so philosophical?

Lucy: ….*sigh* you doof… let’s go back home before our parents starts wondering how we perished in the woods….

David: Us? Perish in the woods? We can easily survive in the woods… so for next time do you wanna do a survival adventure thing?

Lucy: NO! Never again! I’m going to stay at home where it’s nice and comfy and start a small novel for the villagers to read… and perhaps you can learn the real story behind the beast…

David: (Distracted with his own words) Well, at least we investigated that the beast was actually true… now this isn’t a legend anymore… we can go back and tell them that the beast is actually true…

Lucy: ….if he’s still there..

David: What was that?

Lucy: Nothing… nothing at all..
