Chapter 52

Maya was in full tour guide mode as she swung open the door, the excitement in her voice barely masking her mischief. “And now, for the pièce de résistance of Harvest Grove High.” She gestured with a dramatic flourish, her eyes gleaming with a blend of pride and playfulness.

Howard and Jason exchanged curious glances, their attention locked on Maya as she continued, “Welcome to the infamous Room 305.” She leaned in conspiratorially, lowering her voice to a mock-serious whisper. “This is where the first-ever Harvest Grove High... ahem... ‘adult film’ was filmed.”

Jason’s eyes widened in disbelief, while Howard stumbled slightly, nearly tripping over his own feet. “No way,” Jason said, his voice tinged with a mix of shock and amusement.

“Way,” Maya replied, a mischievous smile spreading across her face. “If you’re feeling adventurous, just search for ‘Jerry and Colby: The Detention’ on Spankwire. They were local legends for a while.”

Howard’s eyebrows shot up. “Seriously? That’s...”

“Yep,” Maya interrupted with a grin, “and it got banned pretty quickly when people found out they were underage. A real shame, considering their, um, commitment to their craft.”

Angelo, trailing behind, chimed in with a chuckle. “I think I might still have a screenshot on my phone. It was the talk of the school for weeks.”

Maya rolled her eyes playfully. “Yeah, not exactly the kind of legacy we were hoping for. Moving on!” She opened the door to a brightly lit room. “Here’s where Kyle Frank’s pig had her moment of glory—her piglets were born right here.”

Angelo snorted, clearly enjoying Maya’s narration. “I’ve definitely got a photo of that somewhere.”

With a quick, theatrical motion, Maya guided the men down the hall. “And now, gentlemen, we arrive at the heart of Harvest Grove High: The Chronicle Office.”

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

She opened the door with a grand gesture. The room, usually bustling with activity, was eerily quiet due to the recent vandalism. “Welcome to our sanctuary of school news,” Maya said, folding her arms. “It’s a bit of a mess right now, thanks to a ‘prank’ by someone who clearly needed a better hobby.”

Jason wandered over to the boarded-up window, his gaze lingering on the damage, while Howard approached the Wall of Weird—a collection of articles and clippings detailing the town’s strange occurrences. His fingers traced the headlines, and he turned to Jason with a look of intrigue. “Jason, you should see this.”

Jason joined him, scanning the articles. “So, this is your area of expertise?” he asked, glancing over his shoulder at Maya.

Maya leaned against the desk, a playful smirk on her lips. “You could say I have a fascination with the unexplained.”

Howard’s attention was caught by an article detailing a bizarre meteor shower. “A freak meteor shower?” he asked, eyes narrowing with curiosity.

Maya nodded, stepping closer to the article. “Yep. Most of the meteor ended up buried in the old Heller Mine, but the fragments that hit Harvest Grove caused quite a stir. Some say it was a harbinger of darker times.”

“Darker times?” Howard repeated, his tone skeptical but intrigued.

“Yeah, the old-timers have their theories. NASA still can’t explain it, and there’s no record of it entering our atmosphere,” Maya said, her voice tinged with a hint of conspiracy.

Howard and Jason exchanged looks, clearly captivated by the tale.

Suddenly, Angelo pushed away from the door with a dramatic flourish. “Alright, enough of the nerdy stuff. Time to see where the real action happens—on the field.”

Maya rolled her eyes at Angelo’s theatrics. “You mean where the jocks strut around in their gear and exchange ‘manly’ pats on the back?”

Angelo shot her a mock offended look. “Hey, we take our rituals seriously.”

Maya grinned. “Caught me peeking, I guess.”

Turning back to Howard and Jason, Howard said, “I’d love to discuss this Wall of Weird with you further, Maya. Can we set up a time to chat?”

Maya’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Absolutely. Let me give you my number. You can call me whenever you want to talk.”

She scribbled her number on a sticky note and handed it to Howard, who glanced at it before tucking it into his pocket. “Thanks. Expect a call soon.”

Howard turned to Angelo. “Lead the way. I’m eager to see the football field.”

Angelo’s eyes met Maya’s with a playful glint. “Ready to join us, Maya?”

With a nod, Maya followed as they made their way down the hall, her mind racing with thoughts of the upcoming interview and the potential for more thrilling revelations about the mysterious Harvest Grove High.
