***** Vol.1 Chap.20 Rescuing the rescurer *****
When Mayflower picked up the sub on the sonar and noted that the sub was towing the yacht and rising to the surface, the crew immediately lowered two powerboats and went on standby. As soon as the sub-yacht contraption was spotted, the powered boats sped to the yacht. In no time, they broke the cabin and helped the two survivors trapped inside the yacht onto the boats.
“We will be back for you.” One of the crew members said while knocking on the hatch window of the sub. Unfortunately, she heard nothing. She was long gone by then.
After dropping off the two boaters, the power boat came back dutifully to tow the sub back to the Mayflower. Kristin had long lost her consciousness. The medical team carried her to the decompression chamber and then to her cabin later, where she slept for two days.
When she finally came to, she could barely move a muscle. A couple of well-wishing notes were slipped from her friends under her door. As she scanned over those, a knock on the door woke her further. It was Chandras.
“Well, you are finally up.” He congratulated her.
“I feel like hell. Tell me, did the boaters make it?” she asked anxiously while sitting up.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
“They are doing fine, thanks to your daring rescue.”
She blushed.
“I gotta go. I will ask George to send you some soup. Get some more rest.”
“I will.”
As he turned to leave, he spun around and came forward and grabbed her arms. In a hushed tone, he leaned forward and whispered in her ears, “Be careful of Jonas. He was steaming mad when the sub surfaced with the yacht. He started to scream at everybody.”
“Okay, thanks for the warning. You are a genuine friend indeed.”
George came by with a bowl of steaming hot chicken soup.
“Kristin, feeling better today?”
“Much better now that you are here with the soup.”
She feigned a smile.
“Drink the soup while it is hot. Get some more rest. I will be back later.” George patted her hands. She nodded.
She was thankful for George’s care and was slightly refreshed after she downed the bowl of soup.
George leaned over and whispered, “Beware of Jonas.”
With a puzzled look, she looked at George and nodded again.
It did not take long before Jonas got the news that she was awake. Instead of coming down to see her, he sent his XO immediately to summon her to his quarter.
“Dr. Sobinowski?”
“Yes?”
“The captain wants to see you in his quarter.”
“Oh, what about?”
“I do not know.”
“Can it wait? I can barely walk.”
“He wants to see you. NOW.”
“By the way, where is the captain?”
“In his quarter, you better hurry.”
Grudgingly, she held on to her desk. With shaky legs, she stood up and headed to her cabin door. The XO stood there motionless and offered no help at all except to keep telling her to hurry. She was confused because she did not think that appropriate for a hero’s welcome. Notwithstanding, she said nothing and gradually made her way out of her cabin.
