Vol.1 Chap.2 Haunted by dreams

***** Vol.1 Chap.2 Haunted by dreams *****

Kristin woke up from her disturbing dream, troubled and dazed. She wondered about the events in her dream. What a dreadful nightmare! Perhaps there was a hidden message in the dream. She could not be sure.

She pinched herself to ensure she was awake. The sheets on her bed were all tied in knots with her pillow thrown clear across the room. She longed to retreat to the beginning of her happy dream when she was carefree before the dream turned into a nightmare to haunt her.

She examined her hands and counted her fingers. Yup, all intact. She rolled up her pajamas to count her toes. Yup, all her toes were also there.

Her memory reminded her of a similar dream once, a dream about being lost in a foam of bubbles. She was in high school then. During the summer, she was bored, so she sneaked out of the house to play on the beach. The time was getting late. After a whole day of swimming and lying on the beach, her friends had gone home. She was alone on the beach because she wanted to spend the night on the white sand. At a quiet spot among the rocks, she lay down on the warm sand. A soft, warm breeze was blowing from the sea, and before she knew it, she was fast asleep.

She recalled having a pleasant sleep except for the dream at the break of dawn. Woken up, sweating from head to toe, she tried to remember the dream that faded fast. She remembered she was drowning in bubbling water, sinking in violent water, boiling all around her, and being sucked into an abyss. She shrieked, and her soundless scream woke her up. Not daring to tell anyone about the nightmare, she kept silent, wondering what the dream meant. After a few days, she forgot all about the nightmare and continued her routine.

Was the present dream a nightmare, a warning, a premonition? Or perhaps what would happen now? Was that a message telling her to stop? Perhaps a hint that something marvelous would happen to her? She was confused.

Absent-mindedly, she got up, brushed her teeth, and dressed while she continued to dwell around the things she dreamt. But the dream was getting hazy now and fading fast as well. She shook her head, poured herself a bowl of cereal that she finished in no time, and headed for the office.
