The battle erupted in chaos. Coalition forces unleashed a barrage of missiles, forcing the Wardens to scatter and take cover. Vera activated Resonance Field, shielding herself and Kaelin as shrapnel rained down around them.
“Go!” Kaelin shouted, firing her plasma rifle at a squad of Coalition soldiers advancing on their position.
Vera sprinted toward the nearest artillery emplacement, her HUD guiding her with glowing markers. As she approached, her glove flashed with a new notification:

Dynamic Event: Artillery Defense.
* Waves Remaining: 3
* Reinforcements Incoming: 0:30

Coalition soldiers poured out of the bunker, their rifles blazing. Vera ducked behind a rock, her shield absorbing a volley of shots before collapsing.

“Not fast enough,” she muttered. She channeled energy into her blade, its edge glowing with Core power, and leapt into the fray. Her strikes were swift and precise, each one amplified by the artifact’s energy. A combination of slashes and well-timed parries brought down the first wave of defenders.
The second wave arrived—heavily armored troops with energy shields of their own. Vera grimaced and activated Tactical Assist, which highlighted weak points in their armor. A carefully aimed strike disabled the first soldier’s shield, leaving them vulnerable to a finishing blow.
As the final wave descended, Vera deployed a Resonance Field, buying herself precious seconds to charge a powerful ranged attack. The orb pulsed in her hand before releasing a concentrated beam of energy, cutting through the remaining soldiers like a knife through butter.

“Vera, watch out!” Kaelin’s voice rang out through the comm.
Vera spun just in time to see a Coalition mech lumbering toward her. Its massive cannon swiveled, locking onto her position.
“Great,” she muttered, raising her blade. “Because this wasn’t hard enough already.”
