Entering the Dark Continent - Astoria

She let out a small sigh standing on the deck of a large ship. She held up a thin metallic sheet, flipping it between her fingers every few moments looking at it. Though it didn't appear very noteworthy it actually contained vital information. Infusing a small amount of mana into the card would allow information pertaining to the owner of the card. Around her she could see other people on the deck going about their business, while she waited for the ship to enter the Storm Zone.

Looking at the horizon she could see ominous clouds hanging low in the sky, dark and unwelcoming as the wind from the horizon. It would be another four or five hours before they entered the storm zone, then another day or so navigating through it, before reaching the Inner Sea of Astoria. She showed a small smirk as she recalled why she was going to this uncharted land, a few mistakes on her part, and the worry on the part of her parents in regards to some higher ranking noble.

It is true that she is from a noble family called the Vilivant family, though the family doesn't have as much influence and power as it did in the past it still commands respect as a family that produces capable mages and military commanders. As a result of a marital dispute, Lynette Vilivant, this girl on the boat, has been sent off to Astoria. She laughs lightly, making a face that shows her displeasure.

Holding the card in her hand again she finally pours a bit of mana into the card, clicking her tongue at the contents. In order to keep agents of the family she scorned away from her life she was forced to take a false name, making it almost impossible for her real identity to gain any real fame. Masquerading under the name Lynn Vivrant, while not particularly far off from her true name, she still believed that it was cowardly to stop using her true name.

The card was made from a specially enchanted material that would automatically change the material the card was made out of when the Adventurers guild believed the person bound to the card was ready for a promotion. The grades ranged from Iron, Steel, Silver, Gold, Adamantium, Mithril, Oricalcum, and at the highest grade the mythical Astorium ingot that had only been recently discovered on this continent. As she looked at her card it did not show anything that exciting. It only showed her age, that being nineteen years old, her false name, a sum of 0 in her bank account, and an empty list of skills and magical spells.

The reason why there was nothing really displayed on the card, nor any money on the card is because in order to register magical spells and martial skills onto the card you have to focus your mana into the card while casting the spell or performing the martial skill. And money could be stored into the card by exchanging gold at any of the adventuring guild branches in major cities. Because Lynn had just got the card she hadn't had the chance to add any interesting information to the card, nor place any of her money into it.

Of course she could have easily placed money in the card before she left port, but she had a bit of a greedy tendency to her, she loved the feeling of coins on her belt, and the sound they made when she walked. Just the thought of a full pouch of coins send shivers down her spine and gave her a unbecoming expression. Her mother had always said that this habit of hers would land her in trouble. Just a month ago before this trouble had started she was in her home town, feeling her pouch and grinning to herself when a young noble man mistook her smile for something more.

This inevitably resulted in this young nobles nose being broken by Lynn when he tried to make a move on her while she was still in the midst of her daydreams regarding golden coins. Letting out a low sigh Lynn glanced off the side of the ship, a small pout forming on her face before thinking out loud, "Uncle did say that if I played my cards right and gained enough strength and followers I would find a life of decadence in Astoria."

Just the thought made her grin and giggle to herself, making the men around her pause and shiver at the sound, clearing a wide berth from her. Lynn stood up straight and wiped her mouth, patting her sides a bit to make sure everything was secure. Her belt held only a few pouches, one containing her gold, one containing her signet ring, and one magic bad that allowed a number of larger items to be stowed away. She also had a rather long sword strapped her side, about a half of a foot longer than a normal longsword, but shorter and thinner than a claymore.

She didn't give it any more mind than that, stretching at then stiffening a bit as a wind suddenly hit her from the side. She looked up to see that the ship had suddenly entered the Storm Zone. She grinned, her pulse quickening a bit as she watched the clouds and the rough waters appear to calm around the ship, allowing it safe passage through the storm. It would take roughly an hour or so to go through the calmed bit of sea.

The Storm Zone was a bit of a mystery to everyone, it allowed people to pass freely through the zone only if they were entering the continent, however if anyone were to try to sail out of the Storm Zone any protection it offered would be stripped away and the ship would sink within minutes. There were other ways to get out of the continent, such as high leveled teleportation magic, but such things were usually reserved for high ranked members of the Adventurers guild or high nobility. Even her clan was a few rungs below the access to teleportation.

Lynn let out a yawn as she stretched, not out of any exhaustion from the journey, but out of excitement. She was ready to be done with this boat and set off onto the continent that she had heard infamous stories about. Of heroics and villanous deeds, or grand adventure and forturn in ancient ruins that nobody knew who build. Of the wonderous tower in the middle of the continent that had no apparent entrance. Of new races of beings such as the myserious Spirits and Demon-kin.

The captain of the ship announced that they would be clear of the storm zone in 10 minutes, and be in port within thirty minutes. Lynn gave a grin and gave a few jumps to loosen herself up before running to the bow of the ship to stare at the horizon. Minutes passed as she looked out, until the ship crested the edge of the Storm zone, the sun shining brightly down onto the continent, showing Lynn land as far as the eye can see along the horizon, and stretching even further beyond that.

Directly in front of Lynn she spotted the Grand City of Astoria, named directly after the continent and the place where everyone who immigrated to the continent made landing. The city was ruled Prince Bynnic, the royal heir of a main land kingdom, who was invited to rule by the Adventures Guild, who were the true power of the continent. Lynn knew a great deal of the inner workings of politics in regards to the nobility, however ever though she knew about them she hardly cared.

Jumping up onto the railing Lynn let out a laugh, just as they were within 50 feet of the docks mana suddenly surged into her feet, Lynn whispering and incatation to a spell, [Swift Step], which launched her forward, Lynn tapping her foot against the air as it seemed to harden beneath her feet propelling her onto the dock, before reaching a fist into the air, "First to arrive!"
