Chapter 29

The next few days that passed Elanee was told of Namor helping at the orphanage, she was told that he was playing with the children as well as aiding where he could. Elanee couldn’t believe such acts were possible so on one day not scheduled to go there she went any way hoping to catch him in the act, and catch him she did, he eyes widen as well as her heart warming to the thought that change in everyone is possible.

In later days to come she would pass by him with both in route to duties and not giving away that she knew anything gave him a kiss periodically in their travels, having Namor turn not knowing why such gestures were shown. During the next week while getting supplies for the orphanage Elanee was finishing up with the market and on her way back there before heading home a strange feeling came over her, she would turn every once in a while to see if someone was following her but never seeing any figures that she was just being paranoid. Almost to the orphanage she dropped something and picking it up did she see someone from the corner of her eyes approach her swiftly from behind. She heard a blade being unsheathed from a belt and dropping the items she had she went to stop the striking arm, holding but losing the strength battle the blade drew ever closer to her throat, she saw a being from her left appear as if out of nowhere in her defense. Focusing to her aid she saw it to be Namor, stopping the assassin’s hand Namor fired it back at the assassin hitting himself with it and dislodging the blade from his hand. Swinging around Namor tossed the creation into a nearby building knocking him out. Elanee called to him with a pointing finger as three more men attacked him from behind. Drawing his blade Namor showed to Elanee’s face his battle skill that she didn’t know he had, subduing the assassin’s with great haste and speed. After the final one fell Elanee came running to his side for safety, backing away for a moment Elanee noticed Namor gripping his shoulder that she saw was bleeding.

“You’re hurt!” she cried

“It’s nothing Elanee just a scratch, a worthy price to pay to see you still breathing” Namor said smiling while holding in the pain of the stab wound. Guards then came from around the corner asking what happened and if Namor was ok, he said he was fine but requested that Elanee be escorted home from here, for fear of another attack.

“Why don’t you take me home?” she asked

“Those Assassin’s all carry a mark, I want to know if there are more around, maybe I can get a lead on them” Namor replied and in shock Elanee asked to go with him warming even more to the thought that he was now interested in her master field.

“Please Elanee I wish you to head home now, for the further you are from harm the clearer headed I can think” smiling to his concern for her well-being Elanee nodded and complied with him and going steps with the guards she then turned to him.

“You know you sound like Rain saying that the way you did”

“But he wasn’t here to save you today, me and my non-magical weapon did”

“Yes you did” Elanee smiled and carried on with the guards

Watching her go until vanishing from sight Namor went around the buildings corner and in a cloud of smoke that surrounded him he changed forms, Rain emerged from the mist and leaning his head back holding his arm he saw from the corner of his eye a guard witnessing his change, teleporting beside him Rain jolted him against a wall side demanding to hear from his lips to a secret of he had just saw, the guard nodded with a shot of fear and Rain let him go to run off about his duties, turning around leaning against the wall Rain banged his head against it with anger for what he had just done.

Finishing up with a meeting from the minister of economics representing Silverspire, Namor retired to his chambers, but opening the door he got a surprise of candlelight neatly placed around the room, and lying on his bed was Elanee and a table tray filled with a dinner for two.

“Tough Day you had eh!” said Elanee getting up and showing Namor her dress which was a sleek purple gown cut but very revealing. Namor entered with both a very puzzled and lustful look as he gazed upon her form, “I thought after everything you had done today that you might enjoy a quiet dinner for two…well theoretically speaking” Elanee giggled as she poured some wine and taking a sip she then ran her finger down the front of her dress between her breasts. “What do you say?” she ended with an enticing look.

“I’d have to first point out that your health may be flawed, are you feeling ok” Namor said arching his eyes in wonder and deceit.

“Oh Namor please don’t be coy, your modesty is admirable but starting to grow tiring, I’ve been watching you the past weeks and I must say most impressed I have been”

“Elanee I have been in meetings all day”

“Oh I know you have…you probably needed to sit after this morning little exercise”

“Exercise” Namor worded still puzzled

“Saving my life from those bandits, did you ever find out who they were” Elanee came up to him stroking his chest with her hands.

“Oh right the bandits well no leads as of yet” Namor said playing up the role

“I just thought a nice dinner and then maybe if you’re not too tired…some desert” she said seductively walking away and lying provocatively onto the bed again.

“Dinner sounds great, I’ll just change out of this” Namor said quickly as he rushed to the back bath room to change.

“Don’t keep me waiting” Elanee said

Outside sitting on the ledge wall of the keep watching in on Namor’s room, Rain sits cloaked by shadow and his own hood watching the two enjoy a night of feasting off each other’s hands through Namor’s chamber window. Rain endures his biggest nightmare as they finish eating and get comfortable while kissing each other slowly disrobing one another, getting undressed they slide under the covers about to start the desert phase of their evening. Rain closes his eyes periodically to avoid mind scolding for he knew that this he had been brought about himself, but then notices shadows moving in through the chamber window into the room.

Rain taking initiative action disappears in a mist; the assassin’s draw blades startling the two lovers into hiding their naked bodies by use of the sheer thin sheets. Elanee crawls behind Namor who is frozen with fear as one thug puts the lock board on the room door. Rain appears in the shadows of the room’s corner telling the thugs to leave or die, refusing they attack Rain. In his own form summoning his sword Rain makes short work of the thugs frying the first with a bolt of lightning and another with an arrow conjured of acid, he takes down the last two men in a bloody lengthened scrape to the death, finishing the last one by cutting his throat. Rain unlocks the banging door from the guards on the outside; getting in to see Rain who explained what happened. Rain leaves the lovers company for his vision couldn’t take anymore, and exited out the room and down the hallway.

Elanee quickly put on a robe and ran to catch up with him, “Rain Wait” gripping his wounded shoulder to slow him down; Rain grips it with a shot of pain running to his face, Elanee let’s go with shock “Your shoulder…what happened, I didn’t see you get hit there during the fight”

“This nothing, just hurt myself earlier that’s all, you alright” Rain quickened back

“I’m fine, it’s funny Namor had an injury on the same shoulder today, in there tonight I checked on it but he seemed to have healed fully” she said thinking

“Good for him” Rain broke out cold then proceeded to walk away again when Elanee took to a pondering thought,

“He has changed in action so much as of late that it’s like it wasn’t him at all…it was you wasn’t it, you shoulder injury is when you saved me earlier, right”

“Saved you earlier Elanee what…” Rain says shaking his head looking to see her face full of betraying discovery

“Rain, don’t lie to me… (Rain goes silent) you saved me didn’t you, and you looked like him when you did, it’s been you these last weeks’ hasn’t it saving me and at the orphanage…why?” Rain knew his cover was blown and he had nothing to save it, he huffed as he now finally failed on it

“I got a tip from Artanis that the old thug group we tried to take down regarding the weapon cache was going to take you out, you needed protecting and being in his form wouldn’t aroused suspicion”

“Except by me Rain, didn’t you think of that?” Elanee grow louder, Rain’s tone turned to a serious address

“It was what you wished for all this time anyway, all that was lacking was a little more to take that last step”

“I did this tonight because I though he had changed Rain, I thought he was trying to become the man I…”

“Wanted” Rain finished “Well that’s what I gave you, the man of your dreams handed to you on a silver platter”

“But he hasn’t changed Rain you did those things, it was you doing the good deeds and you who saved my life!” Elanee shouted

“El-

“Shut-up Rain, I’m not finished” she scolded “you glimmered up a show that he played on and that I bought into fully, I don’t know who of you two I hate more right now”

“Me don’t confuse that”

She hissed out a hurting laugh “You would simply like it that way wouldn’t you; well it is not that simple Rain. I’m not some game piece you can just move around a board Rain, I have a soul, feelings and up until now I had trust…in you!”

“Ha! You’ve never trusted me”

“Yes I did, more that you know” she spat back in frustration, she shakes her head “do you have any idea what I was about to do in there…you do don’t you, you were watching me…us, that’s how you got there in time, you knew that I might…” Elanee goes silent and closing her eyes she leans up against the wall tilting her head back in shame “This is your fault” she said almost weeping in shame.

“If everything is my fault then why do you still wear that?” Rain blasted pointing to her necklace he gave her.

“Because it means…something…to me (looking at its design, and then reaching to her robe pocket pulling out the mage boots she looks at a symbol similar on both things) this isn’t a luck mark, it’s a wizard mark…your mark, but it’s also on these boots and…Rain did you make these”

Thinking of a way out of it Rain comes up empty,

“Yea, I did”

Elanee was baffled at the discovery that everything Namor has done and said to her was a lie to bring her close to him, she then sees the guards leave with the bodies Rain disposed of and the sound of Namor’s voice calling for her to return.

“I see prince charming is hoping to finish the evening, better not disappoint him now” said Rain walking away “and your welcome” he adds leavening. Elanee wanted to say something but nothing came to mind as she just watched him go, she put the boots away and walked back to Namor’s chambers saying nothing of the conversation she just had and the knowledge she now knew. Namor started kissing her once again and stopping him she says if they can continue this evening another night for the battle gave her a headache, Namor reluctantly agrees feeling annoyed that he came so close to what he wanted. Elanee then retires to her room with a thought that Rain’s feelings for her might not be as he said and if not, how long has he had them.

Sitting in her room, with Anubis on the bed beside her she looks through the book she found to see nothing but blank pages, putting it down open on her lap she then thinks about what Rain said to her about being a Oracle, suddenly text appeared on the pages in the book open to her and looking down the pages revealed all about Oracles.

Picking it up again she reads for a time; it tells of a prophecy of an Oracle that was found in a cave, rescued and then raised to maturity by a knight’s code, taught through the hands and mind of an instructor leading an orphanage. Realizing the identical resemblance of her own history she then continued with a knotted stomach. She got to a portion about a event that happened some time ago, the book had kept the recordings of the event Sephinroth tried to delete from the history books, but the Tome was able to override the magic and kept it written in secret amongst these pages, reading farther she then got to a passage about the physical description of the adult host for this cursed being, getting very uncomfortable as she read that the description was identical to her own looks, down to the smallest detail. As she read a finale part about the trigger to unleash this evil again, she dropped the book and ran to get some parchment to copy this information down, taking a good portion of the night she used page after page to get every single sentence down. Closing the book up the information on the pages in the book disappeared and putting the book away, she re-read her notes she took and tried to think if there was some way that it couldn’t be about her. Worrying and stressing her poor mind, speculating scenarios about it for a time she finally through exhaustion falls asleep
