A full year passed and Feng Lin was already understanding a lot of the conversations around him. Still learning a new language was difficult. Feng Lin could not speak the language well yet and he didn't really try to in front of his mother. He was afraid that an almost-two-year-old speaking in full sentences might be a little too much for anyone to handle. He kept things simple with "Momma" and "Papa" as well as singular words for different food and drink.
Feng Lin found out the hard way how expensive his father's ink and paper were when he had gotten into them. Let's just say he had to sleep on his tummy that evening. Jokes aside, his father was livid and yet glad his son was interested in "being a scholar like his old man".
During the morning mediation after breakfast, Feng Lin imitated his parents after dragging another cushion over. He would sit there and try to feel that energy surround Long Ai and Feng Yong. To his surprise, he actually was able to sense it again after a week. The feeling was like standing too near a fire. The energy radiated at intervals. The sensation felt dangerous and yet enticing. Feng Lin's ability to sense this energy improved day by day.
It was the fourth cycle of the moon and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom within the courtyard. His mother and father were meditating and Feng Lin was again trying to sense what he knew now was Ki. This energy permeates all things in the universe and flowed through living creatures in particular. However, that was all that he had learned. He knew not how to cultivate it like his parents were doing. Still, he watched and sensed what they were doing. He hoped to find some inspiration.

His father's eyes were closed and he sat in a lotus position. Feng Yong would take deep breaths that fully filled the lungs and hold them for 10 to 15 seconds before letting them out slowly and repeating. His mother would instead take quick breaths through her nostrils thirty times before fully exhaling. She would hold the exhale for thirty seconds before taking four deep breaths normally then repeating the cycle. Their meditation was not loud and it was even quite difficult to notice their breaths unless one was paying close attention.
Breathing must be very important, thought Feng Lin. He was watching his mother closely when she opened her eyes and suddenly spoke.
"Honey . . ."
Feng Yong opened one eye slightly and raised his right eyebrow in question.
"I am with child."
Feng Yong immediately grabbed her up in his arms and spun her around in delight.
"When did you find out?"
"It's been a week since I was late, so I asked my elder sister to check when she visited. She confirmed it only yesterday."
"Did you hear that Feng Lin? You are going to be an older brother!"
Feng Lin was slightly confused since he couldn't understand everything until his father said, "older brother". His eyes widened at the thought. He was not quite sure about this change, but he smiled anyway because both his father and mother were very happy.
