Jack slugged his backpack over his shoulder, closed his locker and left the school building as quickly as he could. This was standard to him, he lived only about a 25 minute walk from school, and leaving quickly gave him more time over for playing video games and the likes. Since he didn't have many friends, it was easy for him to leave without having to talk to anyone.
The sun was shining on his face, it was a nice feeling. At least most people considered it to be. To him the feeling was more annoying than anything, the fact he was feeling the sun meant he wasn't inside playing video games, watching anime or any of the like. This was annoying.
As he watched both his sides before stepping onto a sidewalk his thoughts drifted away, his mind drifted away to a realm of fantasy, sci-fi, dragons, spaceships and all the like. He felt calm when he did this, since he knew the way home by heart it was nothing special. In fact, he could probably find his way home with his eyes closed.
But then, without any reasoning it felt like he had really closed his eyes. Everything turned black, his ears were ringing and he was stumbling about. Even so, he felt like he was falling constantly. He panicked, he screamed but no sound came out of his mouth. A light shone in the corner of his vision, he felt as if he was slowly regaining his vision. He could now feel the ground beneath his feet again, he turned towards the light, still shaking a bit.
The light then seemed to split, in fact it split into three orbs, each orb a different color. Then, each of the orbs took on a different shape, one the shape of a red sword, another the shape of a green bow, and a third the shape of a blue staff.
Then, a female voice boomed inside of the darkness, echoing in what seemed to be nothingness.
"Choose your weapon."
"Huh?"
Jack was completely taken aback by this. This was a scenario he had only experienced in games before, well, games and anime. Still in shock, he moved without thinking much. The whole scenario felt surreal, without explanation. He moved towards the sword, as it felt the most natural. He gripped it's hilt tightly, and a sort of grey square appeared before his eyes.
