Chapter 4 - Intellect
“The Guild has many uses one is to track the rank of an adventurer, you can improve this by completing quests. However quests can only be as high as a rank above yours. For example you are currently Rank F meaning you will not be allowed to take quest above Rank E.” The receptionist explained the ins and out such a how the card can store money, like a debit card etc.
When I asked her about the currency of this world she’d given me a strange look, but then resumed her professional way of communicating. The general name for money is Jiepee (Ji-ep-pi). Apparently there are four coins used which are coppers, silver, gold and platinum. 100 coppers equal to 1 silver, 100 silver equal to 1 gold and so on. It seems the average family of 4 can live off 3 silver coins per month.
I soon finished at the counter and walked to my right towards the Requests Board to pick my quest. My reason? I need to live therefore I need money, Adventuring is a profession which would allow me to travel this unfamiliar world and I can keep a low profile as long as I don’t attract too much attention to myself. I want to be free, something I've never had in my life.
I scanned over the rank F quests, until one caught my eye. The lower Ranked tasks were mainly situated on the left as you travelled further down the bulletin board the rank increased. The highest rank was SSS which was followed by SS, S, A, B, C, D, E and then finally F.
I came across a quest:
Gather 10 Mandrake Plants
On the outskirts of Kin Forest
Reward: 50 Coppers (for every ten if more is gathered)
Rank: F
The quest itself didn't seem too difficult and 50 copper seemed like a suitable about. If I gather 20 that would amount to be 1 silver and I could probably live off it for a month or so according to what the receptionist had told me earlier. Without thinking any further I took the notice of the board and once again made my way to the marble cubicle desks.
“I would like to take this quest” I said to the same receptionist, she had light pink hair which stood out quite a bit.
“Of course” She asked for the notice and put it away after checking the rank. She showed me a picture of the plant.
“This is the specific plant that is asked for, is that okay”
I nodded and she gave the piece of paper, suddenly a panel appeared within field of my vision, bringing along a little *Ting* sound with it.
QuestRank: FDescription: Gather Mandrake Medicinal Plants from the outskirts of Kin forest. Beware of Slimes Requirements
Gather at least ten to earn the reward
Rewards
50 copper per every ten
Do you wish to take this Quest?YesNo
Confused as to what I should do I simply concentrate on the word yes it says I completed the quest. How handy.
Afterwards, I walked out of Adventurers Guild and found myself on the busy merchant’s street. I strolled over to a stall of a nauseatingly kind looking old woman. I needed information on ‘Kin Forest’, she looked nice and dependable, she practically had use me ‘use me’ written on her forehead.
“umm, excuse me” I asked putting on my best sweet girl innocent act on, which was challenging due to my out of place attire.
“Oh, yes. Whatever can I help you with dear?” she answered.
“I’d like to ask if you point me in the direction leading to Kin Forest.”
“Yes, of course” She happily replied.”Just carry on down the street, turn left and go straight ahead and you should reach it in no time.
“Thank you”
I abruptly left preventing her from starting a conversation with me as that’s probably what would've happened. I guess I should fix my antisocial personality if I want to live in a world like this, but its not something I highly value right now. As firstly I need to earn a living. My obviously out of this world attire had gotten the attention of others, not that I can blame them. I noted that I should find a clothing store in future to change.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
As I drew closer to the city gates, which on the outside had a path that led to Kin Forest, I saw a soldier on guard asking for identification of those who went out of and those who came into the city. Wondering about how I would be able to get past I recalled the Adventure Guild’s Receptionist informing me on the fact that the guild card is also a form of verification. A small sigh of relief was done inside of me as I resumed my position continued down the street.
At the gate I simply showed him my guild card and he let me through, though the system seems faulty apparently while a guild card is issued crimes are also shown. The guild card is a remarkable creation.
Around 15-20 minutes had passed before I actually reached the outskirts of Kin Forest. I took out the diagram of the Mandrake Plant and tried to compare it to multiple plants until I found the right one. I pulled the plant with all my strength pulling out the roots with it. It was definitely hard labour and after the first few, I was unnaturally fatigued. Then causing me to take a short break then continuing
This process continued for an hour or so, by then I’d collected 34 in total, which would earn me a staggering 170 coppers. Although I was given a sack to help me with me task carrying it back would be near impossible for someone with strength stats like mine. As i relaxed a sudden bell and blue panel caused me shake forcing me out of my calming state.
*Ting*
Due to your constant earnest scavenging of Medicinal
plants you have earned the skill 'Herbal Scavenging'
The Herbal Scavenging Skill, it seems like it’ll come in handy in the future. With this an idea came to me and immediately tested it by saying “Skill List”.
Skills ListArithmetic’s - Lv 7, Reading/Writing - Lv 6 ,Poker Face - Lv 5
Housework - Lv 4, Herbal Scavenging Lv 1
This confirmed my speculations, this world had skills and these could be gained by repeating or successfully completing certain actions. But if skills are present and these types of panels exist having an inventory would not be strange either. By Inventory I mean a type of storage and it differs for game to game how much you get a some offer infinite amount while other give you more slots as you level up. Solving my Mandrake Plant problem I repeated the word inventory in my head, to make sure it’s not mandatory to speak it aloud.

When the blue window came about a now familiar bell rang with a new window appearing.

gained two Skills 'Calm Mind' and 'Decision Making'

This was now starting to get interesting; I gained stat points and two more skills from drawing simple conclusions about my current environment. Not that I was complaining. Wanting to learn more about my skills I brought up my skill list and focused on my newly gained skills.
