Chapter 3 - RPG?
Silence. It bathed the room whilst bringing an eerie atmosphere with it. It was such a painful sound, almost noisy. Pairs of beaded eyes each with their own individual expression, were directed the interruption. Me.
I overcame the tense situation by adding “Apparently I’m and outsider”. At this the kings face was shrouded in confusion and/or helplessness. What a king!
I really have to work on my sarcasm, I make a conciouse note of it and turn my attention to the king once again.
“Is that so?” he inquired.
“That is so” I confirmed. In this instant the volume of whispers which belonged to the king’s men gradually increased as the king himself silently pondered on what to with me. Five faces stood out to me, filled with scorn they looked at me mockingly. The disgust in their eyes were not uncomfortable in the least bit, frankly I’m quite happy that they’d decided to show their discontent through a death stare rather than verbally abusing me or worse physically. That’d be very bothersome.
Tired of the obviously idiotic situation I stated “It seems I’ve been caught up in your hero summoning. Meaning I’m practically useless, right?”
“What with that attitude?” a guard angered by tone demanded.
I just ignored him “I am right aren’t I?”
“Oy-“
“That is quite alright, sergeant Manor. I see you have a point there, um...”
“Fate Ashling”
“Yes of course, I see we have gotten you caught up in this, I apologise sincerely for the inconvenience we have brought you.”
“But your majes-“
“Sergeant Manor, do I have to repeat myself twice to you?” The king asked with agitated voice.
“No, your Majesty” with this he sent a hateful after resuming his position behind the king.
“Not a hero, huh, an ‘Outsider’ suits her perfectly doesn’t it?” cruelly remarked Daniel. The girls nodded in an excited way yet at the same time sending over a few dirty looks my way. Kaiden did the same but in a less flirtatious and more provocative way.
“Her other titles probably include things like ugly or pig” he laughed. Daniel and posse were laughing hysterically adding a few more comments which caused them to continue in such a manner. It was true, but I didn’t say anything, I’d be bothersome to deal with, I should really change up my catch phrase the word bothersome is becoming. . . well. . bothersome.
The kings look on me changed, he was influenced by the heroes. He wanted them to save his land, of course he’d agree with everything they said. “So what do you expect of the kingdom, Fate?”
The courts men whispered rude whispers, the posse stated rude statements, and the others looked with scornful looks. However I didn’t really care. Its better than the word bothersome I guess.
The princess from earlier at the kings right dared not to look me in the eye as she seemed to feel guilty about my predicament but honestly, I really couldn’t care less.
“Nothing” This is all I said, it’s all I had to say.
Bewildered he confirmed “Really?”
“Yes, there is nothing you can do for me, I am probably a hindrance in the demon subjugation and will leave” I answered. The no hint of hesitation in my tone probably bothered him, so I guess he's the type that lkes to be relied on. I chose my next action carefully with the specific purpose of pissing him off.
After this I promptly pivoted and walked towards the door when I heard.
“You’re such an accident just like your birth.” I didn’t react, this was something I had learnt as a child and I’ve been through worse.
“S-sorry” The small and timid strutted apology came from the princess who seemed to have really felt guilty about it. But I just shrugged it off as, I repeat, I didn’t really care. That'd be bothersome.
The guards looked to the king for orders as I approached the large double door and I mustered an sufficient amount of strenght to opened it. I was led through countless halls until I came to a courtyard. From here I was showed the exit by a maid. The oversized Gates opened into roads which lead to the inner heart of the city. From here I can start again.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
I arrived onto the merchant’s district, passing many stalls and shops as I ventured down the street buzzing with the life and energy of overly enthusiastic business men, I began to feel that salesmen are the same wherever you go.
I meandered through the streets with no real goal in mind, that was until I came across a building which towered over me and the surrounding infrastructure. It seemed like a building of the utmost importance since it mildly reminded me of the White house or Parliment due to the large pillars and elegant yet strong atmosphere around it. In large letters was printed ‘Adventurers Guild’.
Instantly I understood that this was the famed core of billions of RPG based entertainment in the other world, it was the dream of millions to set foot in such a fantasy world. As the thoughts sped through my mind my heart beat a few paces faster and the adrenalin coursed through my blood. That’s right, this the idealistic RPG based world with unlimited possibilities. Including magic.
I walked into a large room; similar to bank yet it could have easily been a posh auditorium. There was a reception section at the far end of the room opposite the glass double doors. To my right was an enormous black board with a width which easily surpassed 5 meters. Placed in front of it were oak wood chairs and tables many of which had both men and women seated in parties, it seems like there’s no real discrimination against women here. It surprised me that such a medieval based world would do so, but I does make things easier for me therfore I won't complain. The other side mainly housed furniture identical to the right, the building had very simple decorations and furniture arrangment but nevertheless it succeeded in giving an exquisite vibe.
It wasn’t crowded but I had to find my way around others and avoid eye contact with other people, all whilst diverting as much attention away from myself as possible. A few minutes later I finally reached my destination at a marble desk in front of a receptionist. “I’d like to register?” my bland voice caused her to question my motivation but quickly then dismissed her prejudice.
“Of course” she handed me a form from underneath he cubicle desk and asked “Would you just fill in this registration form for me please, if you would like to me write for you please ask.”
So literacy rate isn’t high. But I doubted I’d have any problem as the language was literally identical to English and from what I’d seen the spelling wasn’t too different either.
I efficiently finished my application and gave it to her. She smiled and took out a pin saying “Now, I just need a drop of blood for your adventurer’s card, Miss Ashling.”
Though I was wary I removed my bothersome thought and gave her my finger, it didn’t hurt it’s just that normally most modern people would wonder where their DNA was going. A single dropped plopped onto the card she’d taken out of a box to her side, then miraculously my basic details appeared.
