The Blind Lightbringer
Nature seems not so fun

Nature seems not so fun

Dean woke to the world in silence. He was used to it though as he lived far away from the rest of human society. He had developed a healthy distate of human society after how they treated him.

He lived deep in the forests of Oregon and rarely interacted with people. His deceased family's fortune and property were more than enough for him to live the rest of his life in peace.

The manor he lived in was large and very spacious, but that was about all he really knew about it. Being blind, he couldn't really admire any art or architecture

He wiped the sleep out of his eyes though and cozied up in his bed a little more. It was still early in the morning, and his bedroom was right in the path of the sun. He soaked up all the warm, morning sun while waking up.

Dean swung his legs off the bed after a while and reached out for his walking stick. Dean felt the grooves and smoothness of his walking stick. Dean had always loved working with his hands, and carving had quickly become of his favorite pastimes.

He had a lot more time in his manor and a lot of money. Because he couldn't actually see what things looked like, he would use Alexa to order figurines and carvings that he could trace with his feelings.

Dean had no idea if the carvings ever actually ended up being good but he enjoyed it nonetheless. As he aimlessly moved his hands up and down the walking stick, the world shook.

Dean was instantly thrown to the side. He didn't know if it was an earthquake or if the house was collapsing, but everything kept shaking and rumbling. As he was tossed to the side, he banged his head on one of his bedposts and passed out.

-----------------------------------------

Dean woke up, a pounding headache threatening to split his head. He lightly touched the side of his head, and it was slightly warm. It wasn't bleeding a lot, but there definitely was some damage.

He had no choice but to grasp around for his walking stick. He started to panic as he couldn't find it, but he calmed down when he touched it.

The coolness wood gave him more confidence to hobble up and try to walk to the bathroom where he kept his bandages.

Dean still was confused on what the heck had happened, but he could figure out if it was an earthquake after. He tried calling out for Alexa to hear him and see if she knew what was happening, but there was no response.

Oh well, I'm sure there would be a power outage if an earthquake really did happen.

He was able to get himself to the bathroom and fumbled around for the bandages before putting them on gingerly.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

His head definitely still hurt, but it was no where near as bad now.

That's when Dean heard a ding.

Hello Earth-1! I am the System. I have been designated by @$^#@$^#@$ to help you guys grow! Please do not be alarmed as none of you have died yet.

Your world as already expanded, as I am sure may have noticed. Some continents have grown and others have been fused.

But be careful!

The world is NOT the same anymore and you will die quickly if you do not realize that :)

Patch Notes:

Me and my team are still working out some kinks and glitches. Please do not be alarmed!

With that, please say Status and it will appear, trust me. You want to say it.

Have a wonderful day and don't die ^^

Dean's head whirled with all of this information.

What the heck-

One, how can I even "see" this thing in my head, I've never been able to see, so is this what "seeing" is like.

Two, the message was kinda odd. It was definitely helpful, but didn't really give a lot of useful information.

Dean still did not fully trust the words of the system, but he tentatively said, "Status"

Status:

Name: Dean Sykes

Affiliation: Earth-1

Level: 1 (0/5)

Health: 140

Mana: 100

Regen for Health: (4% per 5 min)

Regeneration for Mana: (6% per 10 min)

[Stats]

Strength: 3

Endurance: 3

Durability: 4

Mind: 6

Energy: 1

Once again, Dean could see the status in his own way. He had nothing to compare it too, so he had no idea how good or bad it was

Dean had never been a nerd, but his stats definitely felt like they were lacking a little bit. He was proud of his mind though, but he had no idea how Mind worked.

He was also slowly getting worried. Nature was loud, which was unusual. Sure, nature was scary when it was quiet, but in his manor, he never really heard the beards chirping or anything.

Now, Dean could hear some sounds. Some sounded like deep, gutteral roars, others were akin to dying screams. He even heard clanging?

I should definitely avoid the forest for now. Based on the System's warnings, it seems like there is a chance to die now.

Dean was still in the bathroom and felt very tense now. He had no idea what was outside his house anymore. He had no idea if walking outside would mean certain death.

His blindness certainly did not help either. Dean steeled himself though and decided to at least arm himself.

He headed down the stairs, occasionally tripping on fallen paintings. He made it to the kitchen safely and was able to grab a sharp cooking knife.

His small carving knife was there as well and he slipped that into his pocket.

Dean was definitely feeling more confident now but that confidence shattered when he heard a soft kreek.
