Chapter 1 - The Last Battle

Chapter 1 - The Last Battle

In a certain room, there is a gathering of multiple individuals.

As they gathered around a round table in the middle of the room, there is a guy who they all are looking at that suddenly started shouting.

"What is happening here?!"

They were all shocked when he started to shout but one person still managed to answer his question

"Sir! I believe we are losing the fight!"

"Do you think I'm blind? What I'm asking you all is that WHY! Why are we losing!?"

As he continued to shout, he then proceeded to look at the people around him with a mark of anger on his face which made everyone look down to not met his gaze.

"Can anyone of you fools tell me why we are losing?!"

As he angrily shout at the people around him, the man slapped the table using his right hand. This caused them to be shocked while some even forgot to be shocked and just froze upon their position.

Then suddenly, another brave one enough step in. A woman step forward and tried to answer the question of the angry man.

"Sir... Our enemies are more well equipped than our troops. It seems also that they have the number advantage."

"What? Just that and we are losing already!?"

"Not just that.. Sir."

"Then start explaining already or I'll cut off your head and deliver it to the enemy!"

As he threaten to kill the woman who answered her question. The other individuals that are inside the room started to bow their heads and beg the mercy of this angry man.

"Sir pls don't do that!"

""Sir we beg you to pls don't do that..""

"Cheh!"

Maybe because of the pleading that they did, the angry man give up on his idea.

"Then just start explaining already!"

"Yes Sir!"

Because of this, most of them were able to at least relax a tiny bit.

But suddenly, the man started to shout again and order the people around him making the feeling of ease in their heads banish.

"Isa! Explain to me what's going on!"

"Dos! Map me the position of our troop and the enemy!"

""Yes Sir!""

"What useless subordinates I have... It can't end just like this..."

""We're sorry sir.""

Cheh...

...

In the middle of a certain room, there is a group of people gathered around a table that has a map above it.

In the map, pebbles and other small materials are put above the map that might have symbolized something that only they could know the meaning of.

And overlooking this map on the table were six people that are waiting for someone to speak.

To which one man gladly accepts.

"Cheh, such a simple problem, and all of you can't deal with this?!"

""WE'RE SORRY SIR!""

From the way the other people have been calling him, it seems that this man is their leader.

And from his way of words and his tone, it seems like that this leader is a hot-tempered leader that is easily angered...

But contrary to the intensity of his voice were the words that all the people around him seem to have been wanting to hear.

"...Okay fine.. Looks like I have to do it myself again."

And because of this word, other people that heard him felt relieved.

Some though felt disappointed though not at their leader but to themselves that wasn't able to bring a win for their leader.

But just from how relieved most of them look, It seemed that they have been wanting him to say that from the start.

"Isa!"

"Yes Sir!"

But what came out from this leader's mouth next was unexpected even for Isa so she wasn't able to contain herself and interjected before the leader could even continue.

"Have the center retreat slow-"

"But Sir! If our center collapse..."

What this woman, Isa wasn't able to say is that if their center suddenly retreat, the morale of the army would definitely plummet because this center was actually fielded by their most elite soldiers.

If the soldiers around them saw that their most powerful force retreated, it would definitely cause a massive blow to their morale that may even result in a disorganized retreat that would mean the end of them.

But before she could even finish what she's saying, the leader was already angry at her for trying to question his decisions while also not letting him finish what he's saying which the leader seemed to hate.

"Just follow my orders damnit!"

Because of the angry voice of the leader, Isa wasn't able to say anything anymore besides agreeing.

"Yes Sir!"

"Make sure to do it as orderly and slow as possible! That way, our enemies won't notice that they are retreating. Understand?!"

"Yes Sir!"

When she heard him say that last part, she was able to finally figure out what the leader's plan is. Or at least that's what she thinks.

In her mind, since they are going to lose anyway as predicted by the other generals, the leader might have been wanting to save his most elite soldiers first by making them retreat. And they would do it slowly not just for the enemy to not notice but for the other soldiers on the side too.

Since they are the best soldiers they have, she thinks that the leader might have wanted to make them retreat first to save more of them, prioritizing them over the others.

She thinks that her leader's plan is definitely immoral but she knows that this is just the right thing to do if they want to be able to fight again.

Then after the leader ordered Isa, the leader proceeded to order the man on his left.

"Dos, have your left Cavalry retreat and meet with the reserves. There's no use to Cavalry if they are just going to be neutralized."

"Yes Sir!"

Because of what the man has said to the other man named Dos. Isa felt secured about what their leader might have been wanting to do. But what suddenly came out from the leader's mouth made her think that something is still not right.

"San and Four, make sure to hold your positions while the center is retreating."

This San and Four was the leader of the two sides of their infantry that is fighting.

In the mind of Isa, she is thinking that the leader didn't want to save the left and right flanks at all. Their leader might have actually wanted to make the flanks make the last stand and fend off the full force of the enemy while the center is retreating.

Isa is thinking that the leader doesn't want to save the flanks at all.

Because of this, she has wanted to protest against the leader but she feared that the leader might get angry again which she definitely didn't want more than other people dying.

Then suddenly as the leader was ordering San and Four, the leader also noticed an anomaly.

"Wait a second, wtf are you all leaders doing here anyway?! Where're your subordinates?!"

It's definitely right for the leader to question them about it. After all, they're the leader of their own armies.

If they suddenly left their positions, their soldiers might become confused and lose morale. All to more that they know that the possibility of them losing is high.

That's why normally, they should just send their subordinates to take the orders from their leader.

Because of the sudden question of the leader. The subordinates quickly think of some answers that might satisfy their leader's question.

"Ehhh ahhhh.. my troops would still take time to collapse either way and I already instruct them about our original plan so I decided to came here to have a direct order from you, Sir!"

"Me too!"

""Same with us""

They all know that this answer won't pass the leader's question. Even a kid won't be fooled by this is what they are thinking. But, they couldn't think of any better answer either.

Well, in their defense they are not actually trying to fool their leader. After all, they just said the truth. That is really just the reason why they came here.

But, somehow. Unlike what they all are expecting. The leader didn't question them anymore. Like it doesn't even matter for their leader if they are on the battlefield or not.

"Ahhhh! Fine!

You two, make sure to hold the enemies understand!?"

The subordinates find it weird but they too same with Isa don't want to anger the leader further so the only thing they could do is to only agree on his orders.

"Yes, Sir!"

"Lima! Just do the same thing as I've said to Dos-"

Before the leader could even finish giving orders to his subordinate again, he was interrupted again when he saw a man whispering something to the ears of Lima he is talking to now.

"Is that true..?"

And it seems that Lima is even happy that this random guy has done so.

But the leader on the other hand felt disrespected instead and demanded an explanation.

"What?!"

"Sir! A good news came!"

Spill it already!

"Yes Sir! It seems that my tactic to hide some of our troops in the forest paid off and now their right cavalry is collapsing!"

"Ohhh! Finally!"

Because of the first good news that he received from Lima. For the first time, the leader was finally able to feel something other than anger.

When they all look at the leader's face. He was definitely smiling.

""Tss!""

But because of this good news too, the other subordinates that couldn't bring good news to their leader felt jealous and angry instead to Lima.

While they are busy getting jealous at Lima though. The leader proceeds to talk.

"Obviously, since you all mostly would lose. I will need to change some things. And the same goes for you Lima!"

"Yes Sir!"

When Lima saw the face of their leader being glad of the good news she brought, she felt proud.

"After you defeat their Cavalry, hold out and regroup first."

As she felt proud, she thought that she will be able to predict the next move that their leader would want her to do so she cut off her leader's words.

"Then attack their main Infantry from the right Sir!?"

Contrary to her expectation though, the leader seem to not like it and even became angry because of that.

"Are you listening to me?! Didn't I say that I'm changing the plan! And why are you talking when I'm not even finished!"

"Ahahahaha... Sorry?"

Unlike the other subordinates though, she didn't seem to feel disappointed at all, in fact, she was even smiling while apologizing.

And this seemed to work as the leader they thought would be angry again just brushed it off and continued what he's saying.

Cheh.. anyway, just regroup and don't attack their main army for now.

To the new order that he gave, Lima just followed it without question.

"Yes, Sir!"

...

In a distant land that is far from the nearest village or city, there is a big open field that is full of grass. Surrounding this field of grass are forests that are packed with trees that the distance to the next tree is only a few meters.

But.. it's not just the field of grass that is surrounded by the forest. There are also the people that are currently on the top of this field of grass which filled the space with their own bodies as they move erratically trying to push against each other.

If you look closely, you would notice that they were all armed with weapons like spears and swords while wearing armors all over their bodies.

And If you look more closely, they were also not just pushing against each other. They were actually using their spears trying to peirce and kill each other while using their shields to block.

From a farther view, it would look like that no side is winning. It's like they are in a stalemate. But if you look from a farther view from above, you would notice how unequal this battle is.

Although no side is gaining space against each other, looking from above you would instantly notice that one side is actually on the losing side.

From their armor, looking from the sky won't easily tell everything because everyone was wearing a metallic helmet but seeing their overall body armor would definitely do so.

One army consisted of soldiers wearing chain mail covering their body till their hips while having padded clothes under the said mail.

The other side on the other hand only wears the padded cloth without the metal itself though some of them did indeed have metal pads on their fronts.

Only their center front was wearing a real metal body armor which is a metallic cuirass covering their body till their hips like the other side. Their numbers though are way too less compared to the other side.

It may have even the fight if the cloth armored side has the numerical advantage but sad to say but the number game is also taken by the other side.

Their armored center only consisted of 20 percent of their actual infantry which didn't help that much at all in equalling the advantage their enemy have.

But still, even with this advantage, the stalemate is still ongoing... At least that's what it looks like for both of the armies fighting.

Viewing from the birds-eye view, you would be able to notice something weird. The line that has been made by the soldiers on the front clashing against each other has turned different from the normal straight line that they have made as they first clashed against each other.

The side which is mostly wearing leather armor is now formed into a "U" shaped formation while the more armored side is inside that U.

"Sir! I received the news that Sir Dos was able to defeat the cavalry of the enemy on the left."

"Took him long enough!"

"Sir!"

"Okay, this should be fun. Tell Dos and Lima to do a simultaneous attack on the main Infantry of the enemy from the back. Then have Isa, Tatlo, and Four to hold their position and don't let the enemies gain more ground."

Hehe

"We're going to give the Empire a big hug!"

"Yes, Sir!"
