Chapter 4

*INSIDE THE FACILITY*

“POWER FAILURE IN 5 MINUTES! POWER FAILURE IN 5 MINUTES!” A robotic voice announced along with a siren.

Todd reared his head when he heard the message. He stood up from his prison bed and clenched the iron bars, having his ear to the ground. Several guards whispered in others’ ear about something that Todd couldn’t overhear, but he guessed they were talking about the current situation.

“Stop shaking the iron bars!” A guard yelled at the prisoners, who were at a loss during this unexpected situation.

Few of the guards marched away, leaving two guards to control the prisoners.

Researchers who were in the control room had their jaws dropped when they saw the remaining power count plummeted from 50% to 1%. When they analyzed the anomaly, they found out that the count was hacked and altered a week ago, and part of the power was transferred into an external storage. They were now lost for words.

“We have to evacuate!” A researcher cried.

“But Spencer is out there! He is now attacking our facility!” Another researcher shouted.

“Who say he is the real Spencer?” The researcher asked.

“POWER FAILURE IN 1 MINUTE! POWER FAILURE IN 1 MINUTE!”

*OUTSIDE THE FACILITY*

Raised his hands onto mid-air, a purple aura surrounded Spencer and extended towards his palms. When he waved his hands, a mass of purple fireballs zoomed through the air and crashed into the reinforced walls of the facility.

“I think we could hold him for a longer time as his fireballs are not that strong.” The General said.

For one split second, the aura around Spencer turned red. He lifted off from the ground and began levitating. A fireball appeared from nowhere and was becoming larger and larger. At one point, it grew so large that the ground began melting and guards suffered from heatstroke.

Satisfied with the size of the fireball, Spencer waved both his hands, sending the fireball at full throttle towards the facility walls.

“BANG!!!”

A mushroom cloud shot up and swelled into the sky, flaring the facility up so bright that everyone had to squint their eyes. Viewing from a bird eye, the facility cast a silhouette against the gleaming ground. When the smoke particles drifted away from the facility, the guards who survived the explosion examined the reinforced walls.

“Shit! Spencer broke the reinforced walls! He will raze our facility to the ground! We have to stop him!” The General commanded.

Files of soldiers with dust smeared on their faces marched towards the main gate. They formed a defensive wall extending from one end to another end of the hub, arming with guns.

“OPEN THE MAIN GATE AND FIRE!” the General said.

A soldier pushed a button in the control room, and the gate began opening. The creaking sound produced when the opening gate collided with the walls was so eerie and ominous. Out of the horizontal gap, the row of soldiers discerned a human figure standing still in the mass of smoke.

“POWER SHORTAGE! POWER SHORTAGE!”

Scared by the power shortage and the superpowers of Spencer, soldiers lost their morale and attention. Lights flickering inside the facility raised goosebumps on their skin. Within seconds, Spencer stepped into the main gate with no one attacking him.

Although the General was terrified, he still blustered, “FIRE!”

With bullets flying, the lamps suddenly went off, leaving the laser bullets to be the only things that illuminated the hub. When a bullet shot where Spencer should be, his outline vanished into the thin air.

Frightened by the situation, soldiers disobeyed the General and began machine-gunning in all directions, hurting others without any sign of stopping.

*PRISON CELL*

When the lamps in the facility switched off, the two guards ran away from the prison cells and towards the hub. In this urgent situation, they would only care for themselves but not others, let alone prisoners.

Seeing nearby prisoners ramming into the iron gate, Todd followed them and crushed the door. He could now test the power of his new body. Repeatedly hitting the iron gate, Todd sprawled on the floor when he broke the iron gate. Dozens of prisoners also escaped from their cells and ran away to somewhere far away from the guards. However, they didn’t know that all military units were fighting against Spencer.

To leave the facility, Todd ascended the stairs and reached the landing below the roof floor. There, he saw a shadow, but couldn’t discern it. The facility was so dark that Todd nearly lost his direction to the stairs.

A pair of red eyes heaved into Todd’s view, so malicious.
