To the Academy - (2)

“Magnificent”

Looking at the huge building towering in front of me I couldn’t help but let a ‘wow’ escape through my lips.

I was currently standing in front of one of the leading educational academies of Galia.

DAY

Domain Academy of Yeterian

DAY was the largest academy in the entirety of the Eastern Domain.

Similar to the Administrative System put in place, there existed four major academies. Each in a domain.

Since I was in the Eastern Domain. I was to enter the Eastern Domain Academy i.e DAY.

Sunlight splashed off of the glass windows of the tall building. Lifting my head upwards, I tried to estimate its height. Cranking up my neck, I tried to look up. But the blinding sunlight reflecting off the window panes shut my eyelids close. Placing my hand up as a shield, I tried again.

Hah…

A sigh escaped my mouth as I came to a conclusion. It was freakin’ HUGE. If I had to give a real life estimate it would be around the height 200-300 metres, which was incredible from an academy’s point of view.

You could see the bustle and rush at the main gate of the school. Students in uniforms were flushing in and out of the school. As soon as I entered, a boy with freckles all over his cheeks approached me with an amiable smile.

“Are you perhaps a new student? Would you be interested in a tour?”

“No.” I said, straight to his face.

Denying him, I walked straight to the Reception Area. There were various inquiry booths setup. Entering one of them, I asked for directions to the Teacher’s Offices.

“Sorry sir. But unless you have a student’s Id or a Visitor’s pass I can’t help you.”

“Then, Can you please call for Mr. Miller?”

“Please wait.”

The girl behind the desk started dialling a number.

“Ah, Mr. Miller. Someone here in the reception is asking for you?”

Hearing a response, she blocked the microphone and asked.

“Can you please give me your name?”

“It's Reid Danquers.”

Asking me to wait, she again nodded in response that she got from the other end.

“Yes.. Yes.. Thank You.”

Clack.

The call ended.

“So… this is your Visitor’s Pass. Please scan it on the elevator and you may be able to use it. Mr. Miller is waiting for you on the Sixteenth Floor in workstation number 23.”

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Thank You.” Thanking her, I made my way to Mr. Miller’s Office.

Scanning the Visitor’s Pass in the elevator. I pressed the number 16. And soon the elevator’s doors started closing. The doors were about to shut when suddenly a white hand intruded.

Huffing and puffing in exhaustion, a girl made her way into the elevator. The girl wore a red uniform and a cute pink backpack. Her body continued to hang loosely flail down with breathlessness, her hands over her knees.

Long lustrous brown hair that drooped down veiled her face form me. Then in a swift motion, pushing her hair backwards, she lifted herself. Her face inches away.

I could feel her warm breath on my face. That’s when I noticed her face.

One word. Beautiful.

She was beautiful. Large onyx-black eyes, long eyelashes, a high nose and lastly a small mouth. She was the perfect girl. Her body proportions were perfect too. Nothing too big, in the realm of reality. Nothing too small to call her petite.

I could feel the pink rushing beneath my cheekbones as her scent entered my nose.

‘Control, control, CONTROL!’

‘F*CK! So freaking HOT!’

Like hell I could control myself. She was the literal personification of the word ‘Goddess.’

That’s when I noticed it. She was eyeing me pretty weirdly. Distancing herself from me, she sized me up. I couldn’t understand what was going on. But I could see one clear emotion in her eyes.

Anger!?

‘Why was she angr-’

“Don’t you know that it's impolite to stare at someone?”

‘Oh… I hadn’t noticed.’

“I am sorry.” I apologised.

“O-ok.” She turned away, facing the elevator doors.

I was pretty sure that though I had just apologised there had been no change in my facial expression. As I had two sets of memories, it would make no sense if I only acted as if my personality hadn’t changed.

The memories and personality of the real Reid would also influence me. Therefore, all my actions even as minute as my stance and walking posture had changed. And yeah, the cold and expressionless face was also thanks to it.

I was actually happy that I was still calm or at least looked like it.

My floor came first so I moved out first. The elevator doors closed behind me and I walked to workstation number 23. Rather than a workstation it was a small office. I knocked softly on the white door and waited for a reply.

“Come In.”

A cracked voice beckoned me inside. I opened the door to find Mr. Miller seated behind his desk. He was busy scribbling away. He looked far too engrossed in his work. I waited for a while for him to take my notice.

A few seconds passed, and just as I resisted the urge to cough-

“I am sorry Reid. I know you don’t like to waste time. As you can see, I have too much in my plate right now. Could you perhaps wait a bit?” Mr. Miller looked up.

“Sure.” I nodded.

“Settle down.”

I took a seat. Sitting there, I tried to size up the first side villain of the novel.

Mr. Miller.

Cravia was considered a primitive and backwards region in the eyes of most of Intellica. The natives of Cravia were akin tribals for Galia. But the base that Galia and all of Intellica had been built up was ‘Equality.’

But there was a big misconception. Equality wasn’t some ethical social law for the Intellica. No. It was just the belief in the idea of ‘Equal Opportunity.’

Equality in terms of opportunity wasn’t some random idea that had popped in the minds of the people of Intellica. It was more of a deterrent and fail safe that chained Cravia. To establish Intellica as just and fair.

Cravia had just gotten rid of the Monarchical form of governance. Under the rule of even the most fair king, discrimination was bound to occur in some degree. The noble born would always hold an unfair advantage over the common people.

The Intellica used this to their benefit. After the establishment of their government, equal opportunity was provided in all the fields. Be it Education or even the Administration itself.

Educationally, the top hundred students from all of Cravia would travel to Galia to seek further education free of any costs.

Kyle, the protagonist, enters DAY through this program. He was considered one of the best talents that had ever come in from Cravia. During the early days in the academy, he was faced with a huge amount of criticism. Both from the teachers and the fellow students. Mr. Miller was one of them.

Under orders from Reid, Mr. Miller tries to antagonise Kyle in every way possible. Sometimes directly aiming for his life. But in the end, Kyle manages to fight his way through and goes on to unmask Mr. Miller’s schemes which results in his immediate termination. This also marks the first defeat for Reid against Kyle, though indirectly.

Reid on the other hand at the start just found the existence of a rivalling talent a hindrance. He did not think of Kyle as an equal with the First place being his only goal. But when Kyle succeeds in firing Miller, Reid grows a bit apprehensive of him.

But this time Kyle wasn’t going to fire Miller because…

I am going to kill him before he can do so.
