Recovery

“Phew, good thing I made it out,” Mathew sighed in relief. As he entered the facility, he noticed Valerio sitting cross-legged in the training room and meditating.

“Oh Mathew, do you need any help? I sense faint traces of bloodlust,” Valerio asked with a frown, his eyes still closed.

“Well uh…Ruby just came in and whacked the twins for bailing on her,” Mathew replied awkwardly.

...

“Why are we doing everything by ourselves, Uncle Val? Where are the twins, Arthur, and the Manager?” Ruby asked tiredly.

“Um…they are…oh yeah, they are on vacation,” Valerio replied with nervous laughter.

“How dare they bail out on me and go for a vacation? I'll take care of them when they return,” Ruby replied angrily while cracking her knuckles.

...

“Haha, I almost forgot about that,” Valerio laughed as he recalled the incident.

“Just let them be,” Valerio waved his hands as he opened his eyes from his meditation.

Mathew also laughed at their antics as he moved towards Valerio and took a seat near him. He looked at Valerio for a while and asked.

“Mr. Val, I've been wanting to ask you something regarding Kael and Lyra,” Mathew asked in a serious tone.

“Regarding Kael and Lyra? What would that be?” Valerio asked, tilting his head in confusion.

“Umm well, earlier you told me that the 12 who possess the 12 chief gods of heaven are called the Ascendants, right?” Mathew asked.

“That’s correct,” Valerio nodded with a faint smile. He could already guess what Mathew was going to ask.

“But the twins have yin-yang dynamics. Yin and Yang is just a concept that depicts balance. So how?” Mathew asked as he looked at Valerio, awaiting the answer.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“You're right, Mathew. Yin and Yang is just a concept and that power doesn't belong to any god,” Valerio replied.

“Then what kind of power do they have?” Mathew asked with a frown.

“They both have a fragment of one of the chief gods in them. But it split in two and manifested itself as Yin-Yang,” Valerio explained.

“So it’s not their true power?” Mathew asked in confusion.

“Yeah. They can only activate it after achieving perfect balance. When they cross that stage, their true powers will surface,” Valerio explained calmly.

Mathew nodded and suddenly thought about something and asked, “Have they ever crossed that stage?”

From what he could observe from his training, he could tell the current them had not reached that stage.

“They did it once and ended up destroying the whole neighborhood, haha,” Valerio laughed loudly. That scene was still vivid in his eyes when he witnessed two kids standing in the middle of a burning house.

“What??? Is that powerful? What kind of power do they even have?” Mathew asked in amazement. Even his awakening was not that exaggerated.

Valerio smiled mysteriously and didn't say anything. Mathew sighed in disappointment and didn't ask further.

After discussing for a while, they both went upstairs since it was nearing peak time and also to save the twins from Ruby.

...

“Wow, look outside, it's a full moon,” Lyra commented.

“Yeah, it looks beautiful,” Ruby nodded. It seemed like they had sorted out everything. Ruby also didn't hold anything against the twins seriously and only gave the beating for fun.

“Yeah, the moon sure is full and so are the orders, better get back to work,” Mathew laughed as he cracked his knuckles. The shop was slowly getting full of customers.

“Haha yes, Manager, we are going,” Lyra laughed nervously as everyone got on with their work.

“The Manager looked kinda scary back there,” Ruby said nervously.

“Haha, trust me, we've seen the Manager even scarier than this,” Kael laughed smugly, but his eyes showed a hint of fear.

“What?” Ruby asked in confusion.

“You won't get it,” Kael shook his head. Ruby frowned a bit and didn't ask any further about it.

...

After work, the group closed up the shop.

“Good work today, guys, see you tomorrow,” Ruby said tiredly as she picked up her things to leave.

“Bye, Ruby,” the twins waved her goodbye as she went home.

“Kael, Lyra, you guys go and get some sleep,” Valerio said with a smile.

“We were gonna do that anyway, Uncle Val. Are you going somewhere?” Kael asked sluggishly.

Working in the shop gave them a different kind of tiredness from the tiredness he got from the mirror world.

“Yeah, Mathew and I are gonna do some research,” Valerio replied with a mysterious smile.

“We are?” Mathew asked in doubt. He didn’t know anything about this research.

“Haha, I'll fill you in, don't worry,” Valerio replied with a laugh.

“Whatever, I'm gonna sleep,” Lyra said as she moved towards her room without waiting for any reply. Since she was recovering from her injuries, she was more tired and just wanted to lie on her bed.

“Me too, bye,” Kael waved goodbye as he too made his way toward his room.

...

Mathew and Valerio reached the underground facility. They entered the room where Arthur was resting to check his condition.

“Will he be okay now, Mr. Val?” Mathew asked in concern.

“I think so,” Valerio replied as he opened the door to Arthur's room. Arthur was awake and greeted them with a bright smile.

“Uncle Val, Manager.” Arthur's complexion was relatively healthy as he recovered. It seemed like this room full of runes helped him considerably.

Arthur also tried to learn more about those glowing runes when he was alone, but he couldn't find anything. Begrudgingly, he gave up his attempt.

Valerio and Mathew exchanged glances. Arthur looked more healthy and fit; he also gained some muscles. They guessed it was due to his awakening and didn’t think much.

“Hello there, Arthur. How are you feeling now?” Mathew asked with a smile.

“I feel like I've recovered. Everything feels normal except for one thing,” Arthur replied with a light frown as he got up from the bed.

The searing pain from yesterday had mostly vanished. Now it was at a tolerable level as he was able to move around a bit.
