Guess I can't fool you

Guess I can't fool you

“And what would that be, Arthur?” Valerio asked with a frown. Was there any hidden complication?

“I keep feeling something from the manager. I don't know how to put it in words,” Arthur replied in confusion.

“Hmm… you mean this?” Mathew asked as he conjured a bit of Nova after hearing Arthur’s reply.

“Ye… yeah, before the feeling was faint but now it's very strong,” Arthur replied excitedly when suddenly he thought of something.

“Oh, wait, I remember Kael and Lyra also using something like this,” Arthur said.

‘I think even Manager and Grandpa Jayden could use this,’ Arthur thought.

“It’s called Nova, Arthur,” Mathew replied with a faint smile.

“Nova, huh? So what will it do? Can I use it too?” Arthur asked hopefully. He too wanted to wield extraordinary powers and not be a burden to others.

“It's the physical manifestation of internal energy. It can only be used by those who possess the ‘eyes’,” Valerio explained calmly.

“What eye?” Arthur asked in confusion. Didn't everyone have eyes?

“Mr. Val, why don't we take him out and explain everything? He needs to know a lot of things,” Mathew said with a sigh as he looked at Valerio.

“Yeah, that's what I thought too. Come with us, Arthur,” Valerio gestured for Arthur to leave the room with them.

Arthur nodded and got up from the bed. He looked around the room for a while.

“Uncle Val, is this some kind of hospital? It looks very weird,” Arthur asked with a frown.

“Haha, this is no hospital. Come with us, I'll explain everything,” Valerio laughed as they exited the room.

Soon, they exited the room and reached the training area. Arthur looked around the underground facility in awe and disbelief. Everything here fascinated him like he was in a sci-fi movie.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

After reaching the training area, Valerio explained everything about the Gods, Nova, and Eyes to Arthur. The explanation lasted almost an hour.

“Yeah, that sums everything up,” Valerio nodded in satisfaction. He looked at Arthur in concern and asked, “Did you get everything?”

“Yeah, Uncle Val, I got it,” Arthur replied with a dazed expression, small amounts of steam starting to come out of his brain due to the information overload.

‘He totally didn't get it,’ Mathew thought with a sigh.

“Oh really? Good, good. The next thing is—” As Valerio once again got ready to explain, he was interrupted by the sound of footsteps.

Valerio looked towards the elevator. Kael walked out with his sleeping pajamas, rubbing his eyes groggily.

“What are you guys doing? Oh, Arthur, you're up? How are you feeling?” Kael's eyes lit up after noticing Arthur. He went towards Arthur with a smile to check on him.

“I'm good now. Sorry that I made you worried,” Arthur replied, trying to avoid Kael’s gaze in embarrassment.

“Why are you here? Didn't you say you were tired from all the work?” Mathew asked curiously.

“Haha, I was sleeping heavily when I suddenly woke up for some reason. I couldn't go back to sleep again,” Kael replied with a laugh, scratching his head.

“Oh, you woke up in the middle of the night, huh?” Valerio asked with a smirk.

“Yes, Uncle Val, one of those weird nights I guess, hehe,” Kael laughed weirdly.

“Really?” Valerio asked again with a grin. Mathew and Arthur looked at them with confused expressions. What's wrong if he had one sleepless night? Why was Valerio interrogating him so much?

“Yeah,” Kael nodded.

“Oh, alright, Jayden,” Valerio replied without much expression.

“Huh?” Arthur looked at Valerio and Kael in confusion. Why was everything so confusing today?

“What?” Kael asked with a frown.

“Haha, you could fool every single being on this planet but not me,” Valerio smirked proudly.

Kael looked at Valerio for a second.

“Sigh, I guess I can't fool you,” Kael’s voice gradually deepened as ripples started to form outwards. Gradually, Kael turned into Jayden, wearing a suit and magician's hat.

“Nice try, Jayden, but can't pull out a fast one on me,” Valerio smirked.

“Well, it's my loss this time,” Jayden sighed. He suddenly turned towards Mathew.

“How did you find out?” Jayden asked curiously. A magician should learn from his mistakes to improve his performance.

“Kael’s disguise was spot on, but you missed a crucial thing,” Mathew laughed mysteriously.

“I did? What would that be?” Jayden asked with a frown.

“You didn't do enough research on your target. Kael waking in the middle of the night? No one would believe that,” Mathew said matter-of-factly. Valerio also nodded and agreed with Mathew.

“Noted. I just wanted to check on Arthur real quick and test some things while I am here,” Jayden changed the subject with a laugh.

“Your skills are terrifying, bro. Good thing you're on our side,” Arthur said in amazement after witnessing Jayden’s abilities.

“Haha,” Jayden laughed without any reply.

“Uncle Val, I have a question,” Arthur asked as he looked at Valerio.

“Ask away,” Valerio replied with a smile as he looked at Arthur waiting for the question.

“Do I… Do I have one of the 12 fragments?” Arthur asked hesitantly.

“I don't think so, Arthur. I have referred to all my research notes, but I can't find which god’s eye you’ve inherited,” Valerio replied with a frown. He too was curious about Arthur's powers.

Arthur's Nova was relatively stronger than the fragments of some lesser-known gods. So the power Arthur inherited should be from a moderately powerful and known god, but Valerio couldn't find anything.

“Oh, is that so? It's fine, Uncle Val. Thank you for everything you've done for me,” Arthur replied with an emotional smile.

Just a few weeks ago, he was homeless and penniless, but now he has a good job and people he can call friends. Everything is because of Raven’s burger.

“Don't worry, we’ll soon get the answers to our questions,” Valerio said as he patted Arthur’s shoulder.

Arthur nodded with a smile.
