Nate knew that he needed to find out who was controlling the Changeling. He suspected that the key to solving this mystery lay in the city's library, where ancient tomes and grimoires held secrets that could unlock the truth.
He set out for the library, his overcoat flapping behind him as he walked quickly through the bustling streets of Arcanum. The sky was darkening, and a cold rain was beginning to fall, adding to the already ominous atmosphere.
As he reached the library, he pushed open the heavy doors and stepped inside. The musty smell of old books greeted him, and he made his way over to the dusty shelves that housed the texts on the supernatural.
"Nate, my boy!" The familiar voice of the blind librarian, Mr. Burns, exclaimed as he spotted him. "Looking for something?"
"Mr. Burns," Nate replied with respect. "I'm looking for information on Changelings."
The librarian's face lit up. "Ah, a fascinating subject. Let me see if I can help." He led Nate over to a different section of the library, where he pulled out a large, leather-bound book.
Nate thumbed through the pages, taking in the information and making notes. He knew that the answer he was looking for was in here, if only he could find it.
If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Hours passed as Nate delved deeper into the book, his eyes scanning the pages with increasing urgency. He felt like he was getting close, but just when he thought he had found the answer, the page went blank.
Nate let out a curse, slamming the book shut in frustration. He turned to the librarian, who was now regarding him with a raised eyebrow.
"What is it?" the librarian asked.
"The page is missing," Nate growled.
"Ah, that is unfortunate," the librarian said with a shake of his head. "But there are other books that may have the information you seek."
Nate was skeptical. He had a feeling that whoever was controlling the Changeling had ripped the page from the book on purpose, in an attempt to keep their activities hidden. He was determined to find out who was behind it.
He decided to take a different approach and began to question the librarian. "Mr. Burns, do you know who might have ripped the page from this book?"
The bent and wrinkled librarian thought for a moment. "Well, many people come and go from this library, and it's not uncommon for pages to go missing. But there is one person who I think may have taken it."
"Who?" Nate pressed, his interest piqued.
"A young woman," the librarian replied. "She's been coming in here frequently lately, always asking for information on the supernatural. She's been acting suspiciously, and I've noticed that she's been spending a lot of time in this section of the library."
Nate felt a spark of hope. He knew that he needed to find this young woman and question her about the missing page. "Do you have a name or a description?" he asked.
The librarian nodded. "Yes, her name is Ava. She's in her early twenties. I can give you her information, detective."
Nate jotted down the information and thanked the librarian before leaving the library. He was determined to find Ava and get to the bottom of this mystery.
