Chapter 7: The Black Hole

After bowing and scraping for a long time without hearing the slightest sound, Murin Tristan summoned up his courage and opened his eyes. In the dark rain curtain, he saw a small white figure. Looking closely, he realized it was the little dog he had seen in the strange - smelling noodle shop.

Murin Tristan suddenly understood. It had been this little thing all along. Because it was so short, he hadn't noticed it before. And the dog's footsteps were naturally very light, much faster than a person's. After figuring this out, he heaved a sigh of relief and stood up. Remembering that he had almost been scared out of his wits by such a little dog, he felt rather embarrassed. Fortunately, no one had seen him, otherwise, they would surely laugh their heads off. His face turned green and then white, and he cursed, "Damn it, you scared me to death. Haven't you eaten enough? I don't have any money to buy you food anymore. Go on, go home." He muttered to himself for a while, not caring whether the dog could understand or not, and waved his hand as he continued walking forward.

"Woof, woof." The little dog barked twice at Murin Tristan and still closely followed behind him. Murin Tristan thought for a moment and understood. This little dog was so dirty; it was probably a homeless stray dog abandoned by its cruel owner. Murin Tristan suddenly felt a sense of kinship. Its fate was so similar to his own. He had been abandoned by his parents right after he was born. Then the old man who adopted him passed away. He was all alone, with no relatives. Because of his reputation as a rascal, he didn't have many friends either. Sigh.

The more he thought about it, the more miserable he felt. He walked forward aimlessly, and the little dog stopped barking and just followed him closely. It was true that dogs were humans' most loyal friends. After eating a few pieces of meat, it faithfully accompanied Murin Tristan as they wandered in the rainstorm.

Staying in the rain all the time wasn't a good idea. Murin Tristan went to knock on the doors of the hotels and guesthouses on the street, but there was no response at all. In such bad weather, and with no electricity, everyone had long since closed their doors and gone to rest. Moreover, even if the door was opened, he had no money to pay. He didn't know when the rain would stop. And now the wind had picked up. Old Huang said it could reach up to level six, strong enough to blow a person away. He'd better find a place to take shelter first. Murin Tristan suddenly remembered that there was an overpass two streets away, and the bridge cave would be a perfect place. With this thought in mind, he immediately rushed towards it.

In the vast sea of rain, a man and a dog walked quietly until the overpass came into sight. Looking at the dirty bridge cave, Murin Tristan felt extremely depressed. He never thought he would end up like this. But there was no better option at this point.

Just as he was about to run over, suddenly, a huge "boom" sounded. A thunderclap exploded above his head, and the sound waves echoed loudly in the bridge cave. Murin Tristan was greatly frightened and took a long time to come back to his senses. The several extremely unlucky things that had happened to him today had pushed his patience to the limit. In a fit of rage, he pointed at the sky and cursed, "Damn you! If you have the guts, strike me dead!"

"Boom!" An even louder thunderclap exploded above his head, and the earth shook in all directions. A bolt of lightning followed split a towering tree not far from the street in half. Amidst the huge rumbling sound, the tree fell in the middle of the road, and the broken branches and leaves splashed with water, which was really astonishing.

Murin Tristan's ears were buzzing from the shock, and he was temporarily deaf. Frightened, he hunched over, and his voice became weaker. He stammered, "Well, maybe you'd better not strike me for now. I'm still a virgin. It would be such a waste..." Thinking of what Shawbina had said, "You pervert, one day you'll be struck dead by lightning," he felt uneasy and kept chanting, "Amitabha, Amitabha. You can't take a woman's words seriously." As he chanted, he started running towards the overpass. This rainstorm was no joke. It could cost him his life at any moment.

Suddenly, a silver light flashed, illuminating Murin Tristan's face as white as snow. For a moment, even the entire street was as bright as day. Murin Tristan was stunned and stopped. Then he saw a sight he had never seen before.

Nine thick bolts of lightning appeared simultaneously from all directions in the sky. This alone wasn't enough to make Murin Tristan stop in his tracks. What was truly amazing was that they all collided at the same point above his head at the same time. They refused to yield to each other, and as they fought fiercely, sparks flew everywhere, like a small sun the size of a fist, making a hissing sound of electricity. In an instant, it illuminated the surroundings so brightly that everything was clearly visible.

Murin Tristan stared at this once - in - a - millennium wonder with his mouth wide open. The next moment, he noticed that the spark ball disappeared, and the world once again became chaotic. However, at the intersection of the lightning, a small black dot appeared. This small black dot was extremely strange, even blacker than the night, and it made Murin Tristan feel a little cold.

The moment the black dot appeared, Murin Tristan had a faint feeling that something was wrong. He instinctively wanted to stay away. The little dog that had been following him quietly suddenly started barking wildly. Animals had an extremely sensitive sense of danger, and Murin Tristan knew this very well. Without hesitation, he started running.

He had only run a few steps when he was horrified to feel a strange suction force behind him. Murin Tristan resisted his curiosity and didn't look back. He just kept running forward desperately. However, this suction force quickly increased, and Murin Tristan soon found that he could only stay in place. What was even worse was that the next moment, he was sucked into the air, as if he was being hung by an invisible rope. In a panic, Murin Tristan looked back. The source of the powerful suction force was the small black dot caused by the lightning. To be more precise, it should be a small black hole because it had now expanded to a diameter of five meters.

Black hole!

This mysterious scientific term suddenly popped into Murin Tristan's mind, almost scaring him unconscious. He had never heard of a black hole being formed by the collision of lightning. But then again, there had probably never been a case of nine bolts of lightning colliding at the same time in human history, so it was impossible to verify.

Compared with the black holes described in science - fiction books that could swallow everything, including light, this black hole seemed a bit different. It only swallowed living things because the little dog was also sucked up with Murin Tristan, whining, while dead things on the ground like garbage, branches, leaves, stones, and rainwater remained as they were.

According to scientists' speculation, objects that entered a black hole might be transported to the other side of the earth, or they might appear in any corner of the universe. What's more, it might even be a time - travel tunnel that could send people back to ancient times or into the future...

But all of these were just speculations. Among these speculations, an inevitable possibility was that if a person, instead of a dead object, entered the black hole, they were very likely to lose their life.

"Losing one's life" was just a polite way of saying it. In plain terms, it meant dying. Thinking that he might die, Murin Tristan could no longer bear the fear in his heart and let out a heart - rending scream, "Help!"

But this phrase, which humans used most frequently when in danger, was clearly in vain. Not to mention that no one could hear his cry in such a heavy rainstorm, even if they did, there was no way to rescue him. Rescuing someone from under a black hole? That was a joke. They would probably end up losing their own lives.

Murin Tristan watched despairingly as he got farther and farther away from the ground. Since he was a child, he had always envied birds that could fly freely in the sky and had hoped that one day he could experience that wonderful feeling. Now his wish had come true, but he felt like crying. He struggled desperately, but he had no power to resist. The black hole quickly swallowed his feet first. There was no pain, no numbness, and no feeling at all. Murin Tristan felt as if his brain had completely lost contact with the nerves in his feet, as if they weren't even part of his body. Then his legs and body lost their senses one by one. The little dog was right beside him. Murin Tristan reached out his hand as if he had seen a life - saving straw, trying to pull it towards him. But his hand was stretched straight, and he still couldn't reach it by a little bit. Murin Tristan was completely hopeless. Then the black hole quickly swallowed his entire body, and the little dog disappeared almost at the same time. Then the black hole gradually shrank until it completely disappeared.

The rainstorm continued to pour down, and the wind continued to howl, as if nothing had happened.
