[4] Failed Escape

Two days of further torture later, Rya’s training has completed, the quest contract disappeared automatically and a new window popped up:

Due to a racial blessing from Angharradh and status requirements being achieved, bodily modifications have occurred.

* You now have the racial Moon Elf ear. Hearing has improved 5%.

* Muscle density has increased from human rating of 3x to 5x that of normal tissue.

* Plant based food is required at each meal. Too much animal based food will result in Agility and Dexterity issues.

* Hair has started to turn dark blue from black. As additional requirements are met, the color will trend even more to blue and/or silver.

Cursing because his carefully crafted character was modified without permission, Drake checked his status:

He went down stairs and had breakfast, hoping Jerimiah forgot about him for today because he didn’t know what fresh torture was awaiting him with his Agility teacher, Jack. However, his hopes were dashed mere seconds from exiting the guild. Hand on the door, he was spun around by a young man who looked vaguely elfish. “Jerimiah, I thought you said he was human. He clearly has ties to the Moon Elves! You know they’re idiots compared to the Sun Elves!” The guild master looked over, “Eh? Something’s changed about him. His ears certainly weren’t that pointy before. Anyway, Jack this is Drake. He just finished working with Rya to build up his stamina. He needs to reach fifty or a hundred agility because of the title he inherited. I only want you to teach him the means to get an additional twenty so that he can survive. After all, he’s already been cheated out of everything once before coming here.”

Drake thought to himself, ‘So they see me as an idiot who got taken advantage because I don’t fulfill the requirements for the blessing.’ He tried to complete the exit from the guild while the other two were talking, but a punch to the gut doubled him over just before being tossed over Jack’s shoulder. “Lesson time! You get to learn my sword technique. Tell me boy, Human and Moon Elves are both trash in my opinion. Only my father’s Fairy race is worth anything with their high agility and stamina. I bet you can’t even beat that.” “Why do they have those two stats?” Jack looks at Drake, yep, he sees an idiot. “If you could fly, what stats would you need?”

Drake checked his clock while nodding at Jack. Six internal days and twenty-two more to go before he had to log out. Seriously considering doing so, he only stopped because of the stat increases. So far he hadn’t needed to pay for anything and gained many points in stats. He was still puzzled as to why there were no levels listed. He posed the question to Jack and received a simple answer, “And what would you do with this level? If I have double your stats but you have triple my level, will you be able to defeat me? Your idea has no practical value. What agility are you currently at?” “25.”

Jack put him down where he could see a large room with a wooden floor. The explanation started simple enough. “My sword skill requires three practical skills: dance, acrobatics, and strikes.” ‘Eh? Dance? Acrobatics? What kind of swords use these?’ “Now, since I don’t see any fairy in you, this will be very fun on my part.” “You’re one to talk, if Fairy blood helps, why is an elf teaching me?” *smack* “Don’t talk to me like that. If I wasn’t the child of a concubine, I’d be looking for my sister, the fairy princess Tayana, who ran off with a piece of human trash forty years ago so I can send him off and her home.”

Story Line Quest: Due to your choice of parentage, you have just met your great uncle. If you tell him you are Tayana’s grandson, you may either be killed, or given a special heirloom. If he finds out before you tell him, you may lose access to this town since you can’t direct him to her. Think wisely. Do you tell him or let him find out on his own?
