Thomas made his way through the streets of Les, since it was only an hour or so before dark there were quite a lot of people on this side of the town going to bars or to get food after a long day.
Bars, inns, and restaurants lined the street just past the gate. The simplistic beauty of Les always brought a smile to Thomas. Almost all the buildings in his hometown were made of wood from the massive forest around it. There were a handful made of stone. Those, however, were mainly belonging to the rich and power to show off their wealth.
The smell of the different foods assaulted his nose, it mixed with the smell of people making Thomas miss the clean air of the woods already. The rumbling of his stomach reminded him that the only food he had since breakfast was some jerky he always kept on hand when he took quests.
Going further down the street he saw a food cart still set up and selling what looked to be juicy meat and vegetable kebabs. The meat and veggies that smell divine, stopping at the small line he waited.
“Two please” Thomas told the middle-aged man behind the stall.
“That would be four copper lad!”
Fishing out four copper coins from his smaller coin pouch he placed the money on the counter and continued on his way to the guild. Thoroughly enjoying the salted, smokey meat and vegetables, he made it to the adventure’s guild in no time.
The impressive three-story building was made from dark stained wood, with the large double doors carved with the image of a warrior fighting off a horde of beasts. Apparently, the building is so heavily enchanted it was the second safest building in the whole city. Only losing to the city lords manor, but that was just the rumor. Over the door was a sign saying Les Adventure Guild Branch, striding up to the door and pulling it open Thomas strode right in.
The interior was spacious with the side to the right having tables to sit at with a party, a small food and drink bar so you can sit and eat and drink with your team. Which was currently bustling with people laughing and having a good time. Some of the people recognized him and gave him a nod or a wave which he returned in kind.
On the left is a wall lined with postings of quests of different rankings. From F-ranked quests like cleaning the sewers or helping find missing pets. All the way to B-ranked hunting quests which were rare for this region.
Above the quest board there was five portraits and companying name plates of the only guild recognized SS-ranked adventures since the Adventures Guilds founding sixteen hundred years ago.
These five were true power houses that always changed society in some way. Like the first in the line who created the adventurer’s guild itself. The man was what most races consider a hero for ending all race discrimination and hatred across the land.

Theodore Kingsley the Hero, who brought all of races together and closed the rift to the Hell planes to finally put a stop to the demon invasion. Who went on to build the adventures guild as a neutral power that keeps all the people safe from outside threats like monsters and mana beasts. He was the bridge that built the lasting relationships between all of the different races.
The proof of that was sitting here at the tables, different beastkin, dwarves, elves, and humans working together. Well not so much here in Les, as it’s a predominantly human kingdom but it was still a common sight. Letting out a sigh thinking about all of the childhood stories he heard about Theodore, he walked forward.
Straight ahead was a counter with dividers that hosted guild employees behind them. Seeing that there was one person open with no one in line Thomas walked up to her stall.
At the counter he saw it was Liz, who he had talked to a few times in the year he had been an adventurer but didn’t really know her that well. He knew she was one of the stricter receptionist but was extremely respected for how she handles requests. She carried herself with a strict and professional demeanor and she looks matched. She wore a well-tailored uniform, shoulder length brown hair and glasses. She was cute but her husband was a terrifying mountain of a man who quit being an adventurer to follow his dreams.
“Hey Liz, here is my guild card, there was a problem with the goblin quest.” Pulling out the guild card, the paper that had the quest on it, and the pouch that had the few ears he collected in it. He continued, “there were more than five goblins, probably around thirty. As well as a hobgoblin, I managed to kill a few and the hobgoblin before getting away. Check the bag I managed to get proof.”
Liz picked up the card and the quest verifying they matched the records they had, she paused and looked at him when he said the number of goblins and hobgoblin. She grabbed the bag that had the ears in it and looked in.
Looking back up at him she said, “That is a problem and outside of the quest that was posted. You will be compensated for the error. We will investigate to see if the information was wrong or if the change happened after it was posted. Was there anything other information?”
Thomas nodded and said, “yes there is something else I think you should know. What really concerned me was the fact that the hob and the goblins were both in the first chamber of that cave. It’s well documented that there are two chambers to that cave system, as you may know goblins work in a power hierarchy. If the hob was stuck with the normal goblins, I am left to wondering what is in the second chamber that is stronger than it.”
Taking down a quick note Liz nodded, pulling out four silver she placed them on the desk and spoke. “I will have to discuss it with my supervisor, but we will probably send a C-Ranked team to handle it. Since you reported it, we may want to talk to you about it again. Where are you staying so we can get ahold of you? You can also come by tomorrow morning to see if we will need your help as well. Also, your payment will be four silvers.”
Surprised Thomas asked “why four? Eleven goblin ears and a Hobgoblin should have been only two silver and fifteen copper, right? My information should not be worth that much. Oh, I am staying at the Rose Dormitory, you can let the person working at the desk know if you want to talk to me.”
With a small smile and nod towards his injured side that was slightly outside of her professional demeanor she had shown since the start of the conversation she spoke. “You were injured from a quest that was posted with improper information; you also provided the guild with what could very well be vital information. So yes, it is worth that much, but please wait here so I can return your bag.” Standing up she went towards the back and returned with the empty bag and handed it over. “Please have a good evening Mr. Thomas.”
