Chapter 3: Village

Both Goof and Shrii walk up the road into the village, passing a few small houses, till they come up to a larger building that looks like it might be a church or library. They see a few villagers milling about, around what looks to be a well in the middle of all the houses.

"Wow, these buildings actually look like houses! Unlike what I might have expected to see in the game." Goof says, as he looks inside a window of one of the wooden houses and sees furniture inside, with food on the table. He puts his hands on the wall. "Oh boy, they have food in there!"

"I am feeling a bit hungry." admits Shrii, as she walks to one of the people close by. "Hello!" she says, waving at the person. They look at her and grunt but keep walking past. The others close by also grunt in quick succession while walking across one another's paths. "Okay, so it's just like in Minecraft I guess." The villagers continue grunting to each other for a minute.

"Let's go inside and see if they have any extra food we can eat." Goof states, and while reaching out to open the door it swings open on it's own, making him jump a tad back. "It's still surprising!" He says while Shrii laughs at him. "Oh, shush. It's not that funny."

"Speak for yourself!" She says as she finishes laughing before following him through the door. "Oh wow, this is so much bigger on the inside then I've ever seen a villager's house before!" She exclaims as she looks around and sees a big open room, with a table in the middle, a bed in the corner, and a few benches with a bookshelf. Goof spots a chest in the corner and runs over to it.

He reaches out and the chest opens before he touches it. "Oh look, they have some apples and bread. Maybe I can trade the extra wood I have in my inventory for some of these." Goof wonders, while examining the inventory of the chest with his inventory at the same time. "I wouldn't want to just take their stuff, maybe I would while playing normally, but this just feels different." He decides to put in the wood logs he has into the chest and takes out 4 loaves of bread and 3 apples.

"That makes sense, I think that feels right." She points out, while she inspects the bookshelves. "These are so interesting, I can read titles to these books, but it doesn't look like I can actually take any of them out." She says, after touching the 'books' on the shelf. "Like this one, 'Struggles with sheep' and 'How to win villagers', I think it'd be hilarious to read these." She says wistfully. Goof walks over to her and drops the 3 apples from his inventory.

"These should hold you over until we can find more food, and you can have some of the bread too if those aren't enough. Just let me know. I'm going to eat one now." He says as he pulls one loaf out of his pocket and proceeds to stuff it in his face right beside Shrii.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"Oh no, get away from me, you are spilling crumbs everywhere!" She jumps away from him, and giggles a bit. "Must you eat it like that?"

After he finishes the loaf, he says "I must have to! I didn't mean to eat it like that. You try it, you must have some hunger too?"

Shrii pulls out one of the apples and stuffs it into her face, spilling the red crumbs everywhere. Goof laughs at her. "Oh my, they are not even wet crumbs, like I would expect to come out of a juicy apple!" She says while waving her hand through the crumbs as they were falling.

Goof walks out the open door, and waits until Shrii is also outside. When he reaches towards the door it shuts on it's own. He walks over to one of the villagers, and reaches out towards them. Before he touches them a trading dialogue pops up in his mind, where his inventory screen would have been. While in the screen, he states "Oh, this villager wants an emerald, and 10 pieces of coal. He has an Iron pickaxe and a diamond to trade."

"Ha! That is so unrealistic. Don't you have that much coal?" She exclaims.

"I think I do, actually." He then proceeds to buy 2 pieces of diamond from the villager for 20 pieces of coal. Then he decides to equip it and hold it in his hand.

"Ooh pretty, getting them this early is great!" Shrii says while looking at the diamond in Goofs hand.

"Yea, that was a steal!" He says, stuffing the diamonds into his inventory. "I wonder how much this villager has... we can easily go get more coal to trade!"

"We will have to remember this village." Shrii states.

"Yea, we probably need to start looking around for more stuff now." Goof says. "It's starting to get dark out."

Shrii focuses on her inventory for a moment, then equips a pair of shears. "We need to find some sheep." She says, and then walks toward the grasslands, past the village. "Before it gets too late and the monsters start spawning!" Goof runs to follow her out of town.

"Do you think I should make a sword with these diamonds?" Goof asks.

"It's probably for the best, especially given what time it is." Shrii concurs. "If that villager has enough to trade, it's probably a good idea to make swords and armor for us both, given that we don't want to find out what happens to us if we die." She says, and getting serious: "This is usually just a game, but we don't actually know what's going on here. I don't think people usually play games this realistically." She finishes.

"Yea, that is so true." Goof says, contemplatively. They both head into the open field of yellow flowers in front of them. After a moment, Goof pipes up; "Here, I made another crafting table." He puts the table down on the ground then. He focuses on it for a moment, and then pulls out a diamond sword. "It's getting dark, I see bodies off in the distance, they are probably hostile."

Shrii pulls out her torches in one hand, and equips her pickaxe in the other. "Well, we have to find sheep out here to have any chance of sleeping, or we'll just have to survive the night."
