Chapter 1

Late at night, the streets of Las Vegas were still as bustling as ever. In the corner of one such street, a man and a woman blended together in a passionate kiss. They separated after exchanging their saliva for a minute.

"This was the best night of my life..." the woman whispered.

She was a gorgeous blonde MILF in her mid-thirties.

"This is something I can change the next time we meet, babe," the man replied with a wink.

He didn't seem older than twenty, so some people would look down on the woman for being intimate with a "boy" so much younger. They would be wrong, though.

The woman sighed and then muttered, "Oh, Vlad... If only my husband were half as charming and caring as you are..."

After exchanging another short kiss, they said goodbye and left each their own way.

"She sure was delicious," Vlad Albus thought on his way back to his apartment.

Unlike that people could assume from his looks, he wasn't a youth in his late teens. Instead, according to the passport, he was already past his late thirties. It wasn't the truth, either.

A successful businessman and a well-known ladies' man, Vlad Albus hid a dark secret. He was a vampire who survived since the beginning of the 20th century. After living for more than a hundred years, he still looked like someone in his late teens. How? By drinking the blood of beautiful women, of course!

Modern biologists know that a person's state of mind is directly related to their body. So, even after all those years, Vlad was still as horny and playful as a 19-year-old.

It was both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it allowed Vlad to enjoy life to the fullest. A curse because he could never truly mature as a person, which cost him money more than once...

When it came to his blood-drinking habits, he only drank the blood of consenting beautiful women! Be it the "consent" part, the "beautiful" part, or the "women" part - each was extremely important.

How could he get consent for something like this? Well, usually, it was easier than expected. Most women just assumed he joked. Plus, his bites aren't painful at all and, on the contrary, make ladies experience a pleasure comparable to orgasm. Most of his darlings only considered it as his personal bite-kissing technique. They were then surprised to notice that both their health and looks improved after several nights spent with Vlad...

"It seems you are in a good mood, Vlad Albus."

Suddenly, an ethereal, feminine voice interrupted Vlad from his reminiscence of the time spent with his latest donor.

He took a look at his surroundings. In the dimly illuminated back-alley of Las Vegas, only he and a mysterious woman were present.

"Hello, beautiful," he casually greeted. "How can I help you? And why do you know my name, did we met before? Strange, I bet I wouldn't forget your pretty face after seeing it once."

Even though flattery often escaped his lips, this time, Vlad didn't lie or exaggerated. The woman opposite of him made his heart beat faster - her otherworldly charm captivated his soul.

Before he could drown in the blue ocean of her eyes, she replied, "I know you, but you don't know me. I would be happy to have a pleasant talk with you, but we don't have much time, vampire."

As he heard her words, Vlad's heart skipped a bit. It wasn't the first time someone called him vampire, but never before those words were said in all seriousness and with certainty.

This sudden turn of events helped him to recover from his charmed state, and he paid more attention to the details.

The woman's long silver hair and dress formed from bluish opaque liquid were far from normal, but they were nothing compared to her transparent butterfly wings. The unnatural silence of the back-alley didn't make sense either. He felt isolated from the rest of the world.

The woman continued her speech without paying attention to Vlad's apprehension, "Tell me, do you want to meet others of your kind? To travel to the world where you truly belong to?"

The strange question created another turmoil in the vampire's mind. It would be a lie if Vlad said that he never felt alone in this world. Through the years, he lived without truly sharing his secret with anyone, without really opening up.

The fear of being caught by the government and being used as a guinea pig never left him. He could tell people that he is a vampire only when sure that the other party wouldn't consider his words seriously. In his younger days, Vlad still held the hope to one day meet others of his kind. He long since gave up on this silly idea, deciding to spent his life in debauchery. For some reason, he never got infected (either with a simple cold or with STDs), and addictive drugs never worked on him, so Vlad didn't have as many reasons to worry as a human would.

Thinking up to this point, the vampire realized that he didn't want to change anything in his life. He more than enjoyed things as they are. He didn't need to be a genius to guess that agreeing to the woman's offer would result in many troublesome things.

Vlad Albus shook his head in denial. "Nope. I'm fine as it is.

With a forced smile, he pretended to be casual, hoping that it'll help him to avoid the woman's possible wrath. "I would like to meet you for a date, though, if you don't mind hiding your cute wings and change to something less eye-catching..."

The winged woman didn't change her emotionless expression, as if his answer didn't really matter to her.

But then her brows creased as if she smelled something disgusting. Honestly, it made Vlad very nervous. Instinct screamed to him that he couldn't resist the being before him.

The woman sighed with regret and then explained in a sympathetic tone, "It did take you too long to think of the answer, young vampire. They already noticed me. Or, rather, us. It means you no longer have the option to stay in this Etherless world. Sorry."

Before the vampire could realize what is going on, the woman raised her hand. The next instant, a white globe of light appeared before her and started to expand, enveloping both of them.

"When you are strong enough, find Everblood Queen. Tell her that Listless Butterfly sent you. Before that, give your all to survive and get stronger, Vlad Albus. I wish you good luck. You'll need it. A lot." Those were the last words the vampire heard before boundless whiteness engulfed him.

Vlad Albus woke up from a feeling that something slithered on him.

"What the?" He jumped up with a scream, trying to shook off the little snake who decided to climb on his sleeping body.

"Hiss!" Apparently, the snake didn't like his rude treatment. This is not the way you should treat a lady!

"C'mon, just calm down, okay?" the vampire said to the snake as he tried to retreat slowly.

Thankfully to him, Miss Snake decided that she did have more important matters to attend to and disappeared in the nearest bush.

"That a great way to wake up..." Vlad muttered as he expected his surroundings.

A distant sunrise signified the beginning of a day. Tall tropical trees towered over tangled vegetation and green bushes.

"Well, I guess that meeting a small snake first thing in the morning is rather good, by jungle's standards at least," the vampire thought. "I'm lucky that anaconda didn't find me first."

Even though Vlad remembered the crazy of the mysterious woman, he didn't think that much about it. He assumed that she somehow sent him somewhere in Amazon Rainforest based on the surroundings.

"I only hope that I'll find some people soon, then it wouldn't take me long to return to the civilization and resume my enjoyable life," Vlad thought.

Still, he didn't put his guard down. Jungles are never safe for travelers. This is even more the case for someone like him, who didn't get ready beforehand.

He carefully scrutinized the area around him. The multicolored parrots that looked at him from up the trees. The bundled liana that previously served him as a comfortable bed. The tall bushes where his personal wake-up-snake slithered away. The blue transparent words that hid from him in the corner of his sight. Wait, what?

As soon as he focused his attention on the words, they appeared directly in his mind.
