CHAPTER 4

The day they got their Holographic Watch was delayed so they actually received it on Monday the next week. So on that day, Iris woke up first and did her morning routine before waking up Artemis. But no matter how hard she shook her, Artemis didn’t even twitch. After many moments of frustration, she decided to take out a conk horn and blew it in Artemis’s ear. Artemis merely covered her ears but Iris received that as a signal to try harder.

After about 5 minutes, Artemis finally woke up and they both went to the dining hall for breakfast. The view was spectacular, the trees made the place look less empty and sunlight shone on the lake’s surface and made it shimmer. The morning fog made it pretty chilly which both Artemis and Iris enjoyed. Some others were already heading toward the dining hall while others were taking a walk around the lake.

Breakfast was great like usual and when breakfast was over, they got an announcement to go to the Great Hall. When they arrived, Professor Xanderie showed herself and started talking:

“Dear students, after I have given out your instructions, you shall get your Holographic Watch (HW). On either side of the Great Hall are tables, and on the tables are watches. The cloth of each table has been set to the color of your dragon’s rarity. If you don’t know what your rarity is, the board next to me over here can tell you. The instruction to use your HW will be displayed on your screen when you turn it on. Each of the HW has a name engraved on it. You can go find your HW now.” concluded Professor Xanderie.

Artemis looked around and went to the table with the red cloth. On the table, she saw five HW with five pouches next to them and found the one with her name: Artemis Hawksley. The display was as big as her wrist and had gold carvings around it. The strap was totally white and her name was engraved on each side. Artemis didn’t need to change the size of her HW, it just magically fitted onto her wrist like a second skin.

When Artemis turned it on, an image appeared on the display and it seemed to be telling her to take the pouch. She took the pouch and decided to do the preparations in her cottage so she put it into her pocket. After that, Artemis looked around for Iris and saw her standing two tables away.

“Iris,” she called. Iris turned around and walked quickly to Artemis.

“I think we should go back to our cottage before doing anything with our HW,” explained Artemis.

“Alright” replied Iris and they both walked back to their cottage excitedly.

When they got back to their cottage, they both opened their pouches. Inside were lenses and an earpiece that looked suspiciously like an airpod.

Each of them only had one piece of two things. Which meant they don’t have two lenses or two earpieces, only one.

Before doing anything, Artemis turned on her HW and read the next instructions. The watch was telling her to put on the earpiece and then the eye-Len. She moved closer to the mirror and put both of them on. Iris seemed to be doing the same thing.

After putting them both on, Artemis heard a mechanical voice saying:

[This is your ear-piece-listener functioning. Please choose the voice on your display]

Artemis looked down and saw a few options, she chose Female-British. After that, the voice sounds much less mechanical and more like a human.

[Now put on your X-ray lens] Instructed the ear-piece.

Artemis put it on and saw nothing different beside a camera icon at the edge of her vision.

[The X-ray lens can help you take pictures, video and it can also give you night vision, thermal vision and better eyesight. The ear-piece also helps you with hearing anything from your HW. ] explained the voice.

Iris was tapping on Artemis' shoulder.

“What is it?” asked Artemis.

“Do you think we should give a name to each of our HW?” replied Iris.

“Alright, I’m naming mine Andromeda or Meda for short” said Artemis.

“And mine is Europa,” said Iris enthusiastically.

Then they continued to fiddle with their HW and found out some pretty amazing things until it was time for class.

But that wasn’t the only exciting thing that happened that week. There was also one more thing that got both Artemis and Iris hyped up.

It was the fact that their eggs had hatched!

Iris’s egg hatched first right on the day after they got their HW.

After lunch, they went back to the cottage to see Iris’s egg wobbling. Then, cracks appeared and a dragon’s head popped up. It had dark blue scales with a pair of stunning golden eyes. When the rest of its body emerged, Artemis saw that it had a whale-like tail. Iris squealed with delight and ran to hug her dragon, only to find out that it was covered in slimy goo.

After thinking a lot, Iris finally named her dragon “Storm” because she( her dragon was a female) had eyes that seemed like lightning and her scales and the color of clouds in a storm. Storm’s name was completely off topic though, because she was a Wave Dragon, while her name refers more to the sky, but Iris didn’t care one bit.

Two nights after, it was Artemis’ egg turn to hatch.

That night, just as they were getting ready to go to bed, Artemis’ egg started glowing and it turned out that a strand of silver moonlight was shining on it. Then a bright flash appeared and Artemis and Iris both covered their eyes. When the light was gone, Artemis opened her eyes and saw a black snout poking out the top of the egg, then the head emerged and the rest of the body followed.

The dragon was pitch black with silver glitters underneath its eyes. And its eyes, its eyes were the most mesmerizing thing Artemis had ever seen, it has a turquoise blue shade.

After cleaning up the goo, Artemis named her dragon Onyx and also discovered that instead of having scales, Onyx has fluffy fur and she was also a female like Storm. Her arrow tail was also the only thing that wasn't furry.
