She ran down the hall and around the corner. She was late again! Artemis was a 12 year old girl with bright red hair and eyes as black as midnight. Today was her first day of school and she had overslept. She was turning around another corner when… CRASH, she bumped straight into someone and fell to the ground.
“Hey, watch where you’re going,” said an annoyed voice. Artemis looked up to see a boy around her age. He had sleek black hair and stunning blue eyes, and he had a disgusted expression on his face. “Don’t you know how to use your eyes? ” He sneered. Then the guy stepped over Artemis and was gone in a matter of seconds.
Artemis gathered herself up and thought: ‘Well that boy was just rude’
“Hey, are you okay?” shouted someone from behind her. Artemis turned around and saw a girl running towards her. She had excruciatingly long black hair and eyes as blue as the sea.
“Yeah, I’m fine, thanks for asking,” answered Artemis.
“Sorry about my brother.” said the girl.
“Wait, he was your brother?” gaped Artemis, shocked.
“Yeah, but we’re not alike at all. I’m Iris by the way. What’s your name?” asked Iris.
“Artemis, nice to meet you”.
“Well I guess we should get going now.” said Iris.
“Yeah” answered Artemis.
They both walked down the hallway to the auditorium. The door was open and someone was talking inside. They slipped in and chose a seat at the back.
“Now is the time for the first years to summon their eggs.” said an elderly woman in the middle of all the teachers. She had a crisply voice, like a bag of chips. Her long hair was tied in a bun and she had piercing black eyes.
“That’s Professor Xanderie, the Headmaster.” said Iris.
“Wow” answered Artemis.
Next to Professor Xanderie was a gigantic black dragon sitting obediently. Every adult around her was sitting straight up as though they had been waiting for this moment. To the professor’s left was a chubby man, looking quite disgruntled as the dragon’s tail swished over his face. Next to him was another man that looked like he was from the Vikings age. Two swords were strapped to his back and he had his hair up in a ponytail. Over to the professor’s right was a woman. She had wavy blond hair. Her head curiously had two cat ears that were twitching. Behind her was a tail that was waving around. Next to her was another woman. She had curly short hair. A witch's hat was on her head.
The auditorium was huge and filled with people. In the middle of the room was a circle that had small sparks shooting out of it.
“Now, when I call your name, come up here and stand before the Circle of Summoning.” said Professor Xanderie.

“Talia Gareth,” the professor read off a list that suddenly appeared in her hand. A girl stepped onto the circle.
“Hold out your hand and focus on your soul, Miss Gareth,” said the elderly woman.
Talia held out her hand and closed her eyes. She scrunched up her forehead as though she was concentrating really hard. Then a glowing shape appeared in the middle of the circle. Artemis covered up her eyes because it was too bright. When the light faded, she opened her eyes and in the middle of the circle was an egg. It was the color of bright yellow with small yellow spots. The egg was a quarter of Talia’s size.
“That’s the Sunshine Dragon, a Green type, the element is Fire” whispered Iris next to her.
“Wow, you know a lot, but what do you mean, a “Green” type?” Artemis asked back, in awe
“Well, the type is how common or uncommon it is. The ranks are:
White - Green - Blue - Purple - Red - Bronze - Silver - Gold. The three last ones were nearly never summoned but found in hidden places.”
“Oh, okay” whispered Artemis.
This goes on for a while until the professor said:
“Iris Alorie.”
“Well, wish me luck.” said Iris.
“Good luck.” answered Artemis. Iris stepped onto the Circle of Summoning and held out her hand. This time, there wasn’t any glowing but the whole circle was covered with a bubble of water. When it disappeared, Artemis saw a sea blue egg with light blue wave patterns. Iris looked delighted and bounded back to Artemis when she was dismissed.
“This is the Wave Dragon, it’s a Purple type, and the Water Element. It’s in my Dream Dragons list.” said Iris happily.
“Cool, good for you.” Artemis answered back.
“Blake Alorie,” said Professor Xanderie.
“Wait, isn’t that your brother and the guy who I bumped into?” asked Artemis.
“Yeah, he’s always dreamed of an Ivy Dragon, it’s a Purple type, just like mine.” answered Iris. They both looked back at Blake and just in time saw a purple light engulfing him. A few seconds later, he was gone. Then they heard a noise at the back of the auditorium and turned around. And there stood Blake, holding a deep purple egg that had rippling black circles on it.
“Wow, that’s a Portal Dragon, Purple type, and Mystic element.” gasped Iris.
“By the sound of your voice, that’s better than the Ivy Dragon.” commented Artemis.
“Of course, it can transport you anywhere you want.” said Iris.
“Wow.” answered Artemis.
“Artemis Hawksley.” Professor Xanderie said.
“My turn,” Artemis said queasily, all of her excitement gone in a heartbeat. She stepped onto the Circle of Summoning and felt all eyes on her. She held out her hand and closed her eyes. ‘How do I even focus on my soul?’ she thought. So instead she focused on her beating heart. Suddenly, she felt pressed in on all sides and she couldn’t open her eyes. She couldn’t breathe for a couple of seconds but then she felt the pressure releasing and opened her eyes. In front of her was a dragon egg as black as midnight. There were silver glitters on it that looked like stars. She heard gasps all around her. Professor Xanderie dismissed her, looking quite shocked. Artemis ran back to Iris, carrying her egg.
“Why is everybody so shocked? What’s this dragon egg’s breed?” asked Artemis hurriedly.
“That’s the Midnight Dragon, a Red type, the Elements are Dark and Light. No other Dragon breeds have those set of elements. In the whole of the Academy, only Professor Xanderie has one, but now you supposedly have one too. When found in the wild, they can’t be tamed.” answered Iris, looking at Artemis as though she was mad because she doesn’t know that.
“Wow.” said Artemis.
“Well, now that every first year has summoned their eggs, that’s the end of this event. Thank you for participating. Your timetables will be in your cottage. Now you may go to lunch.” concluded Professor Xanderie.
They all stood up and headed for the dining hall.
