I woke up happy, because I had forgotten something important and very useful that would solve a few problems, until I got it as a drop the night before.
A loot bag, it seemed that the chance of getting them was quite reduced, since of all the mobs that died and I killed I only got 4, 3 common and one uncommon, but it didn't matter, if I could get some every night, sooner or later I would have the materials that I couldn't get from the ground or from the world.
I was excited to open them, but first I went up to the surface to get some sun, the bucket was full of water and the rain had slowed down quite a bit, I didn't think I could fill another bucket with the amount of water that was falling, but one would be enough for my needs for now.
In one of the 4 corners of my walls I made a hole 6 blocks from the walls and placed the water inside, instantly I noticed how the water began to flow uncontrollably because of the irregularities of the earth around, instantly I picked up the water and broke all the earth around, I placed it again and tried again, it seemed that the earth that I placed was firm enough to not form mud with the water or fall apart, so I left it like that and I went to make a hoe.
Once I had the hoe I went back to the corner and started plowing the ground, 4 blocks from the center to each side, and planted some of the seeds I had gotten.
Some wheat, to eat, some mandrakes and other magic plants, and some rice, for the paper later.
When I had all the seeds in the ground I sat down on the crafting table and started to open the loot bags.
The result of the 3 common bags and one uncommon one was: 1 enderpearl, 2 amber, 5 bones, 3 rotten flesh, 5 redstone, 3 black quartz, 3 gold and 5 wheat.
Pretty impressive for common bags, especially the gold and enderpearl, which would be hard to get and were quite useful, and I could repeat this every day, as long as I stayed up all night luring mobs and waiting for them to burn during the day.
With the farm done, bags opened and some wheat in hand I made myself 2 loaves of bread and went back down to my subterranean home.
I left my new loot in the chest and crafted another 6 stone pickaxes, the plan for the moment was to mine during the day and attract mobs during the night, until I had enough to start doing some more interesting magic, the only thing I was really missing was some iron and the rice paper I could grow with bone meal, but I decided to leave that to time when I got the iron.
The plan was as good as any other, and so I got to work, as I moved to where I was going to make a new room I started to think about what shape I wanted my house to have, from the central room, to the right there was another empty room, which for now was my room, to the left there was another room just as empty, I could make a storage room and furnaces there, and on the third side, in front of the stairs, I planned to make a rectangular room as long as the 3 small rooms together, and so wide that if I looked from above the whole base would look like a square with equal sides, so something like 40 blocks wide by 60 long and 3 high, approximately.
If my math didn't fail me, the whole process would take me about 100 stone pickaxes, and I wasn't planning to do it all at once, it would take me my time, and probably several days.
And that's what I did, so I spent the next week, breaking stone pickaxes to expand my house during the day and attracting mobs during the night.
When I finished I had gotten a few useful materials, mainly iron but also some coal and quartz, from the night hordes I got several stacks of rotten flesh, bones and gunpowder, as well as 19 treasure bags, which would come to be 1 to 4 per night.
I waited until I finished the big room to open the bags, and I plan to use the materials I got as well as the iron I collected to start doing some magic, starting tomorrow.
The bags I got were: 9 common, 5 uncommon, 2 rare and 3 epic, and their contents were as follows:
-1 ender pearl
-3 iron swords
-3 ingots of thaumium
-3 amber
-2 golden apples
-1 compass
-4 paper
-18 charcoal
-1 iron boots
-2 iron breastplates
-6 iron ingots
-66 pieces of condensed blood
-1 mundane ring
-2 tags
-1 fragment of knowledge
-1 iron pickaxe
-1 flying broom
-1 box of eternal imprisonment
-1 earth apprentice ring
-16 of lapiz lazuli
-1 diamond
-3 emeralds
-2 standard binding agents
-1 book enchanted with eldritch bane 5
And the crown jewel, 1 spectre ingot, which as I remembered from my game, allowed me to create a pocket dimension in the spectral world, that would be great in case I had to run away from some danger I couldn't overcome, or to hide things I didn't want other people to find, since no one but me could enter my spectral space, if someone got the key and used it, they would be taken to their own spectral zone.

I kept most of the materials in the chest for later use, grabbed 3 leather, some bone meal, the paper and some wood and went to the surface, when I got there I went straight to the crop fields and used the bone meal on the rice, I got enough to make 3 books and a bunch of leftover papers.
With the books and some wood I made a bookshelf and placed it on the ground, then I grabbed 2 iron ingots and made them into nuggets, with them I made 2 wand covers, and with a stick I made my first wooden wand.
It felt unfamiliar in my hands, I would have to get used to holding it, I would have time to practice my grip, but first, some magic at last.
With a gentle motion I give the bookshelves I placed on the floor a moment ago a little tap, and they begin to slowly shrink, until they become a single book, floating above the air with a bit of light coming from it.
I reach over and pick it up, it felt heavy in my hands, made of thick leather and looking like it was hundreds of thousands of years old, but still in good condition.
When I opened my thaumonomicon, I was not greeted with pages as I expected, but a sea of stars, and within those stars I could feel some points standing out more than the rest, concentrating on one of those points made the book begin to turn its pages by itself, until it ended in some old and empty pages, which slowly began to fill with ink and words.
Aspects of magic, it said.
And on the page I was introduced to the 2 types of aspects that existed, the main ones and the combined ones, as well as a small explanation that all objects and things had some aspect linked.
Basically it was the first entry in the book, the one that everyone knows and is used to seeing.
Checking some of the other stars, I saw that I had access to the thaumometer, which would help me analyze the aspects of the objects and materials, as well as a couple of tables, one for research and one for fabrication, where I could imbue the magic I could store in the wand to the objects, as well as a cauldron to do alchemy.
Unfortunately, I already knew the progression of this branch of magic, I would need a thaumometer to analyze things before I could investigate anything else, and without research I could do practically nothing, everything was blocked behind the thaumometer, which required glass, gold and the most difficult to get, 2 vis crystals, which I still had to find in this world, I did not even know if it existed, I could not find anything at 200 meters deep, but there would have to be other means to do so.
I spent a while more analyzing each entry in the book, marveling at how it changed its pages by itself at my request, I read each entry, and when there was nothing more to do with it, I put it away for later, at least I still had another source of magic to access, and this one luckily was of a more natural origin, witchcraft.
It was the second branch of magic that I was most familiar with, although that would be saying too much, I only knew a few specific things that I looked for because they interested me, the rest I was blinded, I needed the guide book, and luckily I had all the materials I needed, except for the black ink, but I already had an idea of how to make it.
Luckily in the loot bags I had the materials, so I went back down to my house and picked up iron, redstone, quartz, charcoal and wood.
With the quartz and charcoal I created black quartz, with the black quartz, sticks and iron I created an iron casing and with that, some redstone and another 4 iron I made an atomic reconstructor, which was one of the only 2 blocks I used from that mod, the other one being a coal generator, which I also made.
Another iron casing, 2 coals and 6 stone did the job, now I only needed a color lens, to be able to transform the bone meal into black dye, and with that I could start witchcraft, the only problem was that I had no crystals, or sand in its absence.
I had not found anything, and I needed to do it, many things required glass, it was not something I could do without.
Luckily I had gotten a flying broom from a treasure bag, so I could go out foraging for sand in relative safety, since the ground creatures wouldn't be able to catch me, I hoped there weren't dragons swarming out there or things would get ugly real fast.
I left all the stuff I had gotten in the chests and went back upstairs, got on the broom and took off into the sky... or not.
The plan was just starting and it had already failed, I couldn't control the broom, I just got on it and it just floated there.
It took me hours to learn how to give it commands, to make a long story short, little tilts and intention were necessary to make the broom move, by the time I figured it out it was night time again, and I didn't feel ready to fly.
It took me a week to learn to control the broom decently, despite spending all my time practicing, I barely had an acceptable level of control to tell it where to go and not fall in the process.
When I was ready I finished making the rest of the iron armor, I grabbed one of the swords that I had obtained from loot and now with the broom in hand, and more confident of being able to control it, I mounted and flew out of the walls of my home when the sun began to rise, I wanted to have all day ahead for the trip, I also remembered to place a marker on my map of where my home was so I wouldn't lose it when I wanted to return.
At first it was a lot of fun to take flight, like the first few seconds, and then I remembered that the ground was in fact solid and decided to stay just above the tree line, so that in case I fell I wouldn't die instantly, as I remembered, I should have about 20 meters of grace before I died from the fall.
At a height of about 15 meters I flew around my base for a while, to acclimatize to the altitude flight.
And then I headed for the mountains where I had seen the smoke a few weeks ago, if anyone knew where I could find a beach or a desert it should be the locals, hopefully they would be friendly and I could get back in one piece, if not, I always had the spectral key I made myself with the spectre ingot and a stick, I had not used it yet, I was too excited about the trip, but I was confident it would work as I remembered it, my powers had not failed me so far.
