Chapter 6: *Telekinesis*
As the school day ended, Nix felt a strange tingling sensation above his eyes. When he checked in the mirror, he was surprised to see that his eyebrows were growing back, but there was something different about them. The hair was thicker, almost stronger, and somehow... more durable. Curious, he began experimenting with his hair. To his astonishment, he realized he could not only grow, retract, and change color, at will, but he could also make it looked like it disappear and reappear in seconds. The control he had over it was precise, like flexing a muscle. What initially seemed like a trivial skill quickly became fascinating, and Nix continued exploring its potential, wondering what hidden powers his hair might possess.
Whenever he wasn’t experimenting, Nix spent time with Roni. They often explored the city, trying out new restaurants and hanging out at parks. One evening, after a fun day, they were heading home when a group of hooligans blocked their path, harassing Roni. Without thinking twice, Nix stepped forward to defend her. To Roni’s surprise, Nix effortlessly overpowered the troublemakers. She stood there, shocked by the strength he now had. Nix simply shrugged it off, but Roni silently marveled at how much he had changed.
Weeks later, while hanging out together at a nearby lake, Nix began to notice something even stranger. After spending time in water, he realized he could hold his breath for much longer than normal, almost like he was breathing underwater. Confused, he asked Roni if anything strange that they had done recently, but she couldn’t recall anything unusual. Then she mentioned how much she had enjoyed the sushi they tried a few weeks ago.
“Sushi…” Nix muttered, a light-bulb going off in his head.
It all clicked, the sushi they ate had been made from mutated fish! The mutation must have somehow altered his Innate abilities. After evolving, he thought about the two weeks he spent hunting with his friends, he remembered eating barbecue meat from a Mutated Kangaroo with innate [Tail Strength], and [Solid Form] abilities. A week later, a Mutated Leopard Gecko with [Regeneration] and [Camouflage] innate abilities. The puzzle pieces fell into place: consuming mutated creatures had an impact on him.
Nix’s excitement grew, and soon, he found himself testing this theory further. After playing with Roni at the lake. He quickly bought a dish made from a *Mutated Mimic Octopus* and rushed home. After a quick greeting to Granny Laurie, he hurried to his room, eager to see what new ability he might unlock. Within moments of eating the barbecued octopus, he felt a familiar body weakness and headache coming on. Then, to his amazement, his hair transformed again, it could now move like tentacles, capable of manipulating forms with incredible precision. Even more astounding, his hair could turn almost invisible at will.
Overjoyed, Nix hit the Hunter’s Forum to confirm what he had suspected, the Mutated Mimic Octopus was known for its ability to camouflage and manipulate its form. His hair had absorbed these traits, giving him a whole new level of power. Grinning with excitement, Nix knew this was just the beginning. His real potential was finally starting to reveal itself, and the possibilities seemed limitless. But he have to understand where the Invisibility Innate ability came from?. He also remember eating other mutated meats, but why did he only inherited innate abilities from two mutated monster meat?
He spent that night researching more about mutated creatures and their abilities, scouring the Hunter’s Forum for any insight that could help him improve his powers. Nix barely noticed how much time had passed until Prabh called, inviting him to join a hunt. Exhausted from his sleepless night, he declined, promising to join them for the next one.
In the days that followed, Nix came up with a bit of understanding how his Innate Ability works. He deduced that there was one week cool down before he can inherit another genetic innate ability. Nix also discovered that he have a special ability that quickly digest his food by using his stamina and there are no cool down on it's use. Then his special Innate Ability he named [Genetic Absorption] that works mutated monster meat with a one week cool down and his natural innate ability he named [Hair Tentacles] that he can use just like any parts of his limbs without using his stamina. After his conclusion, Nix moved on to mastering the control of his Hair-Tentacles, until using them as effortlessly as moving his own limbs. His newfound power brought him a sense of confidence he had never felt before. But to keep an edge over his enemies, and even his friends, Nix devised a clever ruse.
Instead of revealing his hair-tentacle abilities, *he would pretend to have telepathic powers.* Using his hair, now almost invisible, Nix could move objects within a 15-meter radius as if by telekinesis. there are still some almost unnoticeable silhouette of his hair threads connected to his forearms, but he can argue that it was his telepathic energy taking form. He kept practiced lifting cups, shifting furniture, and even picking up heavier items, all while making it seem like he was doing it with his mind. It was the perfect cover. No one would suspect that his seemingly bald head was hiding such an extraordinary ability.
With this deception in place, Nix felt confident that he was ready for whatever challenges lay ahead. Whether in battle, on hunts, or even in everyday life, he could now use his secret weapon without anyone knowing the true extent of his powers.
Smirking to himself, Nix thought, *Let them think I’m just a mind-mover. They’ll never know what hit them.*
A few days passed, and the weekend approached swiftly. Nix, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, knew that today was the day. He had decided to confess his newfound abilities to the two most important people in his life, Granny Laurie and Roni. He wasn’t sure how they would react, but his main reason for sharing this secret was to ease Granny’s worries whenever he went hunting and to prevent any misunderstandings with Roni when he disappeared unexpectedly.
In their modest, cozy living room, Granny Laurie and Roni sat across from Nix, both puzzled by why he had called them together. Nix took a deep breath, his hands resting on his knees as he began, "I have something really important to tell you."
Granny Laurie looked at him, her face soft with confusion but filled with her usual confidence in Nix. Before Nix could continue, Roni suddenly interjected, holding Granny’s hand dramatically. "Don’t worry, Granny," she said, her voice laden with mock sadness. "I think I know what Nix is going to say… and it’s all my fault."
Both Granny Laurie and Nix blinked, caught off guard. “What…?” they said in unison.
Roni sighed dramatically, her face overly serious. "Granny, you don’t have to worry. I’ll take good care of Nix from now on."
Nix’s eye twitched, his forehead veins starting to pulse. *What on earth is she talking about?*
With an exaggerated flourish, Roni continued, "What Nix wanted to confess is that he’s madly in love with me!" She paused, striking a pose with a smug smile on her face, clearly enjoying the moment. "That’s right. He’s been hiding it, but his heart is bursting with feelings he just can’t contain anymore."
More veins popped up on Nix’s forehead, his patience wearing thin. Roni, ignoring his growing frustration, approached him, cupping his face in her hands. "Nix, I know you can’t control your feelings," she said with fake tenderness, "but don’t worry. I feel the same way. But we’re still young, so let’s just take things slow, okay? We have all the time in the world."
Nix, thoroughly confused and on the verge of exploding, was ready to spank her for her nonsense. *What in the world is she even talking about?*
Granny Laurie, for a moment, almost seemed to believe Roni’s wild tale, her eyes wide. But before the awkward tension could escalate, Roni burst into a fit of laughter. "Haha! Gotcha, Nix!" she said, doubling over, clutching her sides. "You’re always so serious! You should’ve seen your face!"
Nix, veins throbbing in his temples, watched as Roni skipped back to the couch, still laughing. She sat down, crossing her legs, and waved a hand at him. "Okay, okay, tell us your *real* secret, and stop acting like a big baby."
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
Barely able to contain his irritation, Nix stood up, his face twitching in frustration. Roni continued to tease him, her eyes glinting mischievously. She clearly thought she’d won the moment. But then, Nix suddenly had an idea.
"This is the perfect chance," he thought. Without saying a word, he raised his hand, focusing intently. He internalized the image of his hair-tentacles on his forearm, shaping them into a large transparent hands. While Roni could only see a very faint silhouette, she suddenly felt herself being lifted into the air.
Roni’s eyes widened in shock as she floated several feet off the ground. "W-What the…?" she stammered, looking around frantically. "What’s going on?!"
Granny Laurie gasped, her hand flying to her mouth, while Nix stood there, a small, satisfied smirk on his face. "Yes," he said, "I’ve awakened my abilities." He glanced at Roni, still suspended in mid-air. "It’s called telekinesis—or something like that," he added with a hint of amusement.
Both Roni and Granny stared at him, speechless. The room fell silent for a moment, broken only by Roni’s quiet disbelief.
Nix turned to Granny Laurie. "Granny, you don’t have to worry about me when I go hunting anymore. I’m stronger now, and I can protect myself better."
Then he looked at Roni, still floating, and added with a teasing grin, "And you, little rascal, I’ll make sure you stay out of trouble. I know you didn’t make the top ten in your class this time, but next year, you’ll get there. Once I become stronger, I will help you find your parents, before that work harder to become an evolver as well, and if you don’t," he paused for dramatic effect, "I’ll personally get you a monster Crystal Core."
As soon as Nix lowered Roni gently to the ground, she didn’t miss a beat. Instead of responding with more jokes, she jumped at him, throwing her arms around his neck. Nix caught her, holding her close. He knew how much Roni longed for her parents and how hard it was for her to cope with that absence. He had always wanted to give her hope, and now, with his new abilities, he could.
Roni’s face pressed against his chest as she quietly sobbed into his shirt. Nix simply patted her back gently, whispering, "It’s okay. Everything will be okay."
He looked up at Granny Laurie, who watched them with a tender smile on her face. "Nix," she said warmly, "you’re officially an Evolver now. But remember, just because you have power doesn’t mean your life will be easier. You’ll face tougher challenges, and those with power often clash with others out of pride or ambition."
Nix was surprised at her wisdom, especially about the dangers he hadn’t yet faced. He nodded seriously, "Don’t worry, Granny. I won’t let power get to my head. I’ll stay grounded. For you, for Roni, and for our future."
Granny Laurie smiled softly, pride glowing in her eyes. Roni, still clinging to Nix, muttered into his chest, "You better. I’m not going to let you become some cocky, show-off Evolver."
Nix chuckled, patting her head. "You got it."
Few hours later, Nix returned to his training, determined to explore the limits of his innate abilities and gather data. First, he shaped his transparent hair-tentacles from his forearm into two large hands, trying to extend their size and range. After multiple experiments, he discovered that:
He could form two large hands from both forearms, each about 2 feet wide, reaching a distance of 12 meters. These hands if used together could lift 600 pounds, or 300 pounds each if used separately. Nix called this technique (Phantom Hands.) Additionally, If he focused on creating only one (Phantom Hand), he could increase its size to 4 feet wide, extending its reach to 15 meters, while maintaining the same lifting strength.
Nix realized that the strength of his (Hair-Tentacles) seemed to match his own physical strength, making them a versatile tool.
Next, he shaped the tip of his hair into a spear. Testing its speed and range, he found that: His hair technique (Spear) could reach a distance of 17 meters and move 1.5 times faster than his (Phantom Hands). The hair form (Spear) could pierce bones as hard as marble with a single strike, but it took 10 consecutive hits to puncture a 1-inch thick metal plate.
After that, Nix attempted another idea. He turned his mid-phalangeal hair into thin, flexible threads that shot out up to 18 meters. These threads would wrap around objects and retract, pulling him to the location. He called this technique (String) This allowed him to move quickly or catapult himself to safety if necessary.
Having created and tested these techniques, Nix noted their weaknesses:
1. (Phantom Hands): While strong, they drained his stamina faster if used to lift beyond his strength or struggling objects. It was more suitable for holding down targets in place of traps.
2. (Spear) it can pierced through a bone as hard as a marble in one strike and takes 10 consecutive hit to puncture a 1 inch thick metal plate. This can be used to pin down opponents.
3 (String) it is fast but he does not know what he is attaching it onto so if he randomly shoots it out wrapping itself onto an object, when pulling himself, it could break what it is wrapped onto if it cannot carry the force and his weight. It could also backfire and end up hitting himself with whatever the "String" is wrapped around while pulling it back to him.
After his training session, Nix headed to the South Hunter Base to gather more precise data on his physical abilities and the limits of his newfound powers. He had a clear goal: measure his speed, durability, and stamina under controlled conditions.
The base had equipment designed to test Evolvers. After spending a few hours pushing his body and abilities to their limits, the results were in:

Satisfied with his progress, Nix moved on to test his new techniques. He already had an idea of their effectiveness, but now he needed to understand their limits.
1. (Phantom Hands): By shaping his hair into two large, transparent hands, Nix found that each hand could lift up to 300 pounds, and when combined, they could carry 600 pounds. The hands had a maximum reach of 12 meters and maintained the same strength as his own limbs. However, lifting struggling objects drained his stamina faster, making the technique more suitable for controlling still objects.
2. (Spear): Nix experimented by shaping the tips of his hair into spear-like projections. Each spear could reach 17 meters and moved 1.5 times faster than the Phantom Hands. When testing its offensive capability, he found that a single strike could pierce a bone as hard as marble, and it took 10 consecutive hits to puncture through a 1-inch thick metal plate. It was a powerful technique, but it required precise targeting.
3. (String): He refined a technique where thin strands of hair shot out from his mid-phalangeal area (fingers), latching onto objects up to 18 meters away. The strings could retract quickly, pulling him toward the target. He realized this technique was ideal for mobility, but with some risks. If the string attached to a weak object, it could break under his weight, potentially causing him to crash. The technique required careful aim and awareness of the surroundings.
--
[Weaknesses Noted]:
(Phantom Hands): Great for control, but if the object resisted or struggled too much, it would sap Nix’s stamina faster.
(Spear): Effective for piercing and ranged attacks, but limited against thicker, harder surfaces like reinforced metal.
(String): High-speed mobility, but unpredictable in unfamiliar terrain. Using the string on fragile objects could backfire and cause damage to Nix.
After completing his physical tests, Nix still had one mystery left to solve: the (Invisibility). He knew it came from the combination of the two camouflage abilities inherited from the Mutated Mimic Octopus and the Mutated Leopard Gecko, but he needed confirmation.
He approached Concierge Lisa, the assistant at the South Hunter Base, hoping she might have some knowledge about evolving abilities. However, Lisa was just as confused, though she did suggest that he check the Library, where rare and obscure information could be found.
Nix took her advice and spent the next few hours combing through dusty shelves. After poring over countless books, he found a tome titled "Ability Evolution". The book described a rare phenomenon where "Innate abilities" could evolve when exposed to certain stimuli, such as "consuming mutated herbs" or "mutated fruits" with complementary characteristics.
Reading further, Nix pieced together that the combination of the (Camouflage) ability from the Mutated Mimic Octopus and the Mutated Leopard Gecko had likely caused an evolution in his abilities, granting him (Invisibility). The idea that abilities could evolve sparked a new thought in his mind.
"That means my abilities can evolve further," he realized.
If consuming similar mutated organisms could trigger an evolution, there was no telling how powerful his abilities might become with the right materials. He needed to stay on the lookout for any **mutated herbs** or creatures that might trigger another evolution.
As Nix left the library, a sense of excitement and determination filled him. His hair powers, once considered unusual, had become his greatest asset, and he knew they would only grow stronger. His journey to the top will need every ounce of strength and cunning to succeed.
"The next step is clear," Nix thought, tightening his fist. "I need to find more genetic materials to evolve my abilities further."
