Chapter 14.1: For non-existed future
The strategy has already been consulted through various means, and there have been countless debates since then. It was quite generous even that the dragons had given warning of the upcoming invasion. As if it was a noble deal and triumph against the [beast] and [mortal].
Though most invasions occur on humans rather than the other two, perhaps it is something to be dealt with the fact that they are more blessed by existing individuals who bear no remorse to defend their creations.
I am not saying that the creator of humanity does not care about them, but I trust it was fair enough not to protest against someone who is omnipotent. Rather than such if I were in the almighty shoes, well that would be the same course of not interfering and not advocating for one race over another.
But I am not God, thus I am interfering with my own term. Thus I am quite inclined that they shouldn’t look it as normal means. Even with both sides speaking so casually like a show to be less holy, livehood isn’t something to be scoffed at.
There are things that need to be said and things that need to be hidden away; even though I dislike dishonesty and trickery. Distraction and provocation are methods of the weak to scale down the arrogance of the strong. It will not be a shame if I do not orchestrate the whole ordeal within.
“You seem a little distracted, lord Mikhail. What was going on then? Something afoot?” Marvos asks, giving out the situation at hand. Perhaps the scent of burnt cinnamon and kaweh tea caught me off-guard. Maybe a bit of a sense of dullness is what keeps my mind at bay for the ongoing things that have been going on.
I would be lying that I don’t wish for this superiority to continue, I truly do sometimes but like last time… perhaps it would have been best to stop as the duty-bound relationship with something I will see the death of one day.
“I am fine, Marvos. Have you secured the route for evacuation on that day? Cleared and no obstacle and which destructive explosive may hide from moisture?” I return with the map of Umbridge where the invasion will take place.
It is in the south of the kingdom, where waterwheels are the common norm and river amock between the mountain range and valleys. It is the perfect place for fishing and trading, perhaps that was why the dragons chose it for the first attack.
There is something to make notes of the dragons, through their habit usually the high mountain, their based design was of retiple. Thus their food source consisted of some kind of meat, aiming the harbor would be a great choice to secure the ration.
So each house would emptied out with only the stack of explosives, and the citizens nonetheless would go against the plan but by the authority of the king and the ministry “compenstatation”, it would be going smoothly before the eventful battle came.
“It has not been a problem since the negotiation went smoothly with the mayor conversation on that day. Violet vouched for our cause as well.” Marvos says and stirs the teacup. I am still confused about how the web of relationships would be something of a factor here.
“Darwen’s bethronment? Was she someone of importance?” I ask in surprise.
“She was someone coming from Umbridge as well, her reputation is no doubt making things easier for us,” Marvos answers.
We continued to sketch and draw on the map, the room would be silent with some small discussion between Marvos and me. Perhaps the tea has helped in the substance to cease any distraction from hunger and weariness. Still, when the time of noon and dusk, there would be maids sending in meals for both of us.
Meals of meat and service of salad, all to be designed to be eaten on the way so none are boiling hot but warm and dry to prevent the bloated how it would be consumed by intervals of breath. They serve more as snacks than a course of nutrition.
This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
For me, as long as there would be mana to in such; the taste wouldn’t be the factor of choice. Well, it has been quite three continuous days since he left the office if not for sleep so today Marvos should leave early.
“Marvos, you should go take a breather. A human stay in a place for too long would not be right for their mind.” I say in a dismissal tone.
“Surely, you must jest, lord Mikhail. I should be here for the discussion should any error arise. Please think of your less involvement rather than speaking of normal conditions.” Marvos shakes his head and refuses the offer. Well, that response is within my calculation thus…
“You have called for me, lord Mikhail?” Violetta stepped into the room, per my request she wore the battalion uniform for the mage commander. But why the reason does she always augment the clothing?
“Oh, I don’t realize his majesty is here as well.” She turns to Marvos and offers a little bow, quite a stage play between them. Observing whenever the three ones interact with each other is quite enjoyable.
“This is…” Marvos's reaction said all the surprise he had.
“As I say, the stroll isn’t an option, but an order. I cleared the room to speak with the main commander of the front-line battalion.” I say sternly. Please stay at least for this entertainment a little longer, that would be what I have said if the situation doesn’t call for an eased mind.
“Please reconsider, the time would be--“ Marvos’s whining was cut with Violetta’s remark.
“Now now, Marvos. You have heard his holiness’s words, this is a private meeting of utmost importance so make haste and leave already.” She says pointing out the door which is open already for him to leave.
Marvos bows and storms off before Violetta can seat herself. She ordered the maid to brew another pot, with lavender tea as the core. Perhaps she doesn’t like the sense of numbing of kaweh tea.
“So please remind me why you call me, lord Mikhail. I don’t particularly spare time for any a simple chat or being an excuse for someone to cease their workaholic tendencies.” She caught on pretty quickly, quite a tremendous accusation.
“Very well, then we shall not be talking of something dull your taste since you don’t like chatting that much. Violet, how would your battalion feel about the upcoming battle.” I ask while having some snacks and enjoying the last of kaweh tea. It is half the noon already so I don’t think to stall for long.
“Most of them see the front line as a suicidal mission, thus they are afraid. But I am able to keep their morale up if you are unsure about it. Frankly, lord Mikhail, no one would be glad to walk into their graves.” Violet sighs, her eyes drippable of the dreadful future she is facing. I am not blaming her for being pessimistic.
As Darwen has said multiple times the deed is possible with sacrifices and Marvos providing the limitation of humans. There would be no doubt that anyone would be emotional about it yet she can keep such a façade on the outside. It is applauding that she would not break down does the occasion started.
“You have made no argument of my pessimistic view, are you thinking the same as well? Quite a bold move to make a sacrificial battalion as a scapegoat.” She chuckles, it is untrue that I have met my wit's end but there would be false if I don’t find the burden of life heavily weighed upon my conscience.
“My plan has limitations, Violetta. Perhaps [Clairvoyance] can help a bit with some chains of events, but in all thinking you must experience the real thing to witness the chaos the universe has to offer.” I answer her worried, but it doesn’t ease at all. As the paranoia rises her hand becomes shaking.
“At least many deaths would be prevented, prehaps the apathy of holiness wouldn’t be so unkind to leave all extinct but a few lives would be nothing your calculation.” Again her words would point at a single thing of why I won’t join the fight directly as I have claimed to be the kingdom’s defender.
If I carelessly attacked and wounded the dragons, the world’s balance would be shattered as the [Beast] fraction would lose the order in which the dragon has established.
Plunging the world into chaos again like the book said of the time after the sealing when most of the powerful vanished with it. A power vacuum, truly the only one that harmed is the weak so I can’t let happen at least not now.
“Perhaps you are scared, it would be best if you leave your last words here to be recorded downward. I know you won’t be foolish enough to run away and leave those comrades stray into ultimate defeat.” I say as a taunting method, she pouts at the result as things don’t escalate further it seems.
“I understand your coldness as well. Maybe Marvos was blinded to it and Darwen focused too much on protecting his master, but I am not that ignorant. Do use me as your tool, but at the handler of the sword you use to slaughter, so does the stain of slashes you inflicted on yourself.” Like a warning she gives to me before leaving me with my own thoughts.
As dusk falls the night arrives, and I am alone again. Rewriting the definite future, that woman is much bolder than I thought perhaps a little more that of Uriel who is a slave to destiny. Well, that would be enough thought-provoking enough for the day. Violetta, you may be the tailor who snip and sew the future but don’t forget who has given the cloth to make such happen.
The end
