The Paladin and his closest followers stared up at the mighty bastion of the church’s headquarters. The rest of his caravan earlier dismissed, our hero had returned to seek answers, to find out why the two cloaked assassins he had faced a week prior were, when unrobed, none other than brethren, brother knights.

Now, he looked upon what had once been his home, then back down to what stood before it. With a wave of his arm, his remaining faithful reluctantly stepped back. The Paladin slowly approached the eight others like him in the plaza. Slowly, they encircled him, shouting lies and accusations that seem to sprout from nowhere. One by one, they draw their swords.

From a safe distance, one of the Paladin’s young squires watched as the eight charged without mercy, as the Paladin held his own to the very end, until eight swords gleaming with a crimson flush pierced his body from all angles.

And so the Paladin fell.
