Bazren: Than the taste of defeat.

As the beast lunges to bite her, she summons her shield at the last moment, lodging it between the beast's teeth. Some of them break away, with the sheer force of the monster's jaws.

Bazren: ... It's a flavor I'll never taste again.

She spins around, dragging her flail along with her motion, and smashing it against the side of the beast's head. The flail connects, but it's as if she had just hit a puddle of adhesive mud. The beast is undamaged.

Bazren: What...?

Unable to free its teeth from the shield, the monster clutches its lower mouth with both hands, and breaks its jaw apart. It was now hanging loose, but it didn't seem to mind. Its sharp claws were more than enough to tear a vessel apart.

Bazren: So... You can damage yourself, but I can't damage you...? That can't be. That's hardly fair!

Bazren dodges backward, as the beast swings its arms to slash her. She kept her distance, repeatedly evading the beast's attacks. The monster was relentless, and even though Bazren was getting more and more exhausted, it only seemed to become even more violent. She had avoided letting the beast strike the shield, afraid that the force of the impact would be too great, knocking her off-balance and leaving her wide open. Although now, she was running out of options...

Bazren: Whatever you are, I'm taking you down... Even if that means going down with you!

She attempts to block one of the beast's attacks, letting it hit the shield. When the beast's claws connect with it, a loud ringing sound is heard. The beast retreats its hand, which is opportune for Bazren, as the momentum from the hit had indeed left her vulnerable. Whatever had just happened, it was clear the beast was not fond of it.

Bazren: Didn't like that too much, huh?

The foe prepares another attack, and once again Bazren blocks it. The claws of the beast became chipped from the strike, but it was growing more confident. With every subsequent attack, it seemed less and less afraid of hitting the shield. Bazren was quickly losing balance, but her shield had accumulated a lot of energy.

Bazren: Well... I suppose there's really only one more thing left to try. It'll be all or nothing...

Bazren aims her flail at the ground and waits for the beast's next hit to make contact with the shield. When it does, she shoots her flail, combining the force of the two attacks to shoot herself backwards far enough that she can prepare for what would come. Upon landing, she plants her feet firmly on the ground, and raises her shield, taunting the beast. As it runs towards her, she braces for impact. The monster crashes against the shield with all its might, causing it to emit a deafening ringing that echoes across the many streets and alleyways of the citadel. Bazren is sent flying, her shield glowing as if it was uncontrollably bloodthirsty. As she is projected through the air, in the distance, she hears the loudest shriek thus far, followed by the sound of massive structure collapsing. It seemed something even more powerful was destroying the citadel, yet she could not worry about it now. In no time, she crashes against the side of one of the dilapidated buildings, causing it to collapse on top of her.

The beast sprints towards her. Bazren couldn't move from underneath the rubble. She tried to move some of it, but one of her arms had completely shattered.

Bazren: ... Fuck...

The beast thrashed in the rubble, hungrily searching for Bazren. It catches a glimpse of her, and violently digs in that direction. It hits something... Her shield. Another ringing sound. Louder than before. Bazren felt that the vibrations from the shield made even the beast's bones shake inside its flesh, causing it to instinctively back away in fear. With less debris on top of her, Bazren was able to stand up and prepare herself for the next part of the plan.

Bazren: ... I get it. I get it now. And all I had to do was lose an arm...?

Bazren slowly approaches the beast. It was acting much more cautiously now than before... Something had changed.

Bazren: What's the matter? Afraid of this?

Bazren raises her shield. It was glowing ominously, hungering for violence. The beast takes a couple of steps back.

Bazren: So it seems. But you know...

She un-summons her shield, and summons her flail instead.

Bazren: I won't even need it to kill you.

As soon as the shield is gone, the beast becomes aggressive again, and dashes rapidly towards Bazren. She takes a sideways stance, flail in hand, preparing to strike. As the beast closes in on her, it charges up an attack with its right claw. Bazren aims her flail at its hand, shooting it and intercepting the attack mid-swing. The flail hits the claws directly, causing them to shatter and forcing the beast to step back in agony. It lets out a haunting shriek.

Bazren: You see... It's not that I cannot damage you.

The beast whimpers. It was in extreme pain.

Bazren: It's just that I cannot damage your flesh.

She slowly approaches the monster.

Bazren: But when you bit down on this shield, when you broke apart your own jaws, when you chipped your claws by attacking it...

It growls at her furiously, preparing to attack.

Bazren: Your bones structure got damaged. Dead giveaway, right?

The beast launches a desperate attack with its left hand, although Bazren anticipated it. She blocks it with her flail, making the claws hit it instead. The beast quickly pulls the attack back to avoid getting hurt, leaving itself wide open. Bazren takes aim at the beast's mouth, and fires the ball of the flail with maximum velocity. It hits the roof of its mouth, connecting with its upper teeth with such strength that the beast's head is torn from its spine and sent flying into the ground. Without its head, the body of the monster fell onto the ground, lifeless. The hulking monstrosity had been defeated.

Bazren: Well, that wasn't so difficult now, was it?

She limps towards the beast's head, grabbing it with the only arm she had left. Her vessel had taken quite a beating, yet Bazren could still muster the strength to move back up the stairs and return to Ragma.
