Chapter 9 - Sunlight!

Chapter 9 - Sunlight!

Jin was terrified. What was happening? Where did the spirit come from? Why didn't he finish him off? He started breathing hard and sweating profusely. What was going on? What kind of a monster was this? If things continued like this he was going to go crazy! Or worse... He was going to be killed.

If he fled from the cave he would definitely be banned from the Clan, this was not an option. His parents died to protect the Clan, his only friends were part of the Clan, and his only family also. He needed to get his thoughts together and come up with a plan to face the spirit!

With determination shining in his eyes, Jin rose to his feet and began practicing the Tornado Strike! This was the solution, the spirit dodged Jin's attacks with ease, but Tornado Strike was a powerful move that pulled the enemy toward it. With the rotating Qi, the attack created a tornado with wind pressure that made it almost impossible to evade. It wasn't going to be an easy feat to learn the move, but Jin already studied the scrolls of the move. He was confident that was going to succeed.

Days passed by and Jin was training harder than ever, it was still very hard for him, but at least he got the movements memorized. At the end of each day when he was about to close his eyes, the spirit appeared again. For a month Jin was being defeated mercilessly by the spirit, but was getting better as each day passed, he was able to last longer in fights against the spirit. He was learning the Tornado Strike in order to defeat his opponent, but had no idea where that spirit came from. Was it possible that the spirit was not even a spirit? But that question wouldn't matter anyway. The only thing that mattered was to get stronger!

During the next month Jin became stronger every day, he became confident in his abilities and his skills! Getting beat by the spirit made him stronger, Jin was raised by his grandmother and that was a lot scarier to him than fighting a deadly spirit. During those two months, Jin practiced with all his might, and he learned the whole scroll from Kirilia, so his ability to circulate Qi increased dramatically! He now was able to recuperate quicker, this meant that he was able to train harder.

At first, Jin was scared when the spirit appeared. But he soon realized the spirit was only testing him. He was already able to utilize Tornado Strike, but it wasn't fully mastered which meant that the spirit could still avoid it. Jin was getting closer to hitting the spirit, but in the end he was still getting beating non-stop and losing conscience.

The three months of secluded training were almost at the end and the time was drawing for Jin to exit the cave. Jin had been practicing nonstop since his arrival in the Cave of Spirits. And he didn't want to leave the Cave without defeating the spirit, but even the rations he brought were almost at the end. He only had four days to defeat the spirit before leaving the cave. Although the spirit still avoided him, Jin gave lots of trouble every single time he attacked with the Tornado Strike. He was finally starting to understand how powerful the Tornado Strike really was.

As Jin finished his daily training, he prepared himself to fight with the spirit figure once again today. As he closed his eyes the figure appeared in front of Jin. Before Jin could make a sound, the spirit attacked him at full speed. It was a whirlwind of attacks that Jin barely managed to dodge, the attacks weren't always predictable. They were fast and dangerous. They were extremely dangerous! One mistake, and Jin could lose his conscience. He couldn't afford to lose any more opportunities to defeat the spirit.

"I will win this!" Jin said as he stood firmly and faced his opponent, raising his wooden sword high above his head. Jin concentrated all his thoughts on the sword as he unleashed all of his Qi and focused the entire power on the sword for his next strike. As soon as the technique was complete, a change in air pressure was felt and a powerful tornado formed around Jin's sword! This was the Tornado Strike perfectly executed! The spirit wasn't going to be able to avoid this attack. It was his turn to attack and he will not miss this opportunity! Jin's body shifted forward and the sword went down. There was a loud noise as a large number of rocks shattered upon impact. The spirit was pulled to the sword, it was a direct hit!

"Yes!" Jin exclaimed happily as the spirit flew from the impact and crashed into the giant stone slab! Now this was Jin's chance to finish the spirit, he jumped up and attacked with his most explosive attack, the Justice Strike. The sword went through the spirit, but then something unexpected happened. The huge wave of Qi that burst from the sword made the giant stone slab explode.

"What is this?" Jin asked with astonishment as the shock caused him to fall onto the ground.

The spirit was gone!

Behind the destroyed stone slab was a massive hole! The whole room shook violently as if there was a strong earthquake, but it stopped as suddenly as it started. Jin walked over to the hole where the rock slab just dropped. He looked down inside the hole, there he found a lone sword sticking out of the debris. He grabbed the sword carefully, holding onto it with both hands. He felt a strange energy coming from the sword. A weird aura engulfed the weapon, causing Jin to shiver. It was the same as the Qi from the spirit. He heard similar histories in the legends and knew what it meant. This was one legendary ancient sword! The Cave of Spirits was known for having ancient tombs and dangerous artifacts, luck was on his side. He was able to acquire such a powerful sword, he sensed that the sword accepted him. This fighting with the spirit was the way of the sword testing Jin if he was worthy of having it.

Jin felt excited and hopeful. He felt that this sword could be the key to becoming a great warrior. He was really happy, this was his first win after almost a year as an Inner Disciple. Even if this win wasn't against a real person. Jin smiled to himself.

After this huge battle between Jin and the spirit, there was quite some chaos in the Cave.

Jin spent his last days at the cave practicing with his new sword, the sword was extremely beautiful, it seemed as if a light shone through from within the metal, the sword had golden details on the hilt, and a name engraved on the blade, the Sunlight! It was the same size as the normal swords that were used in the clan, around eighty centimeters, but it was lighter, had perfect balance and the sharper edges Jin ever saw. These last days in the cave were the first that Jin was able to sleep without being attacked, he was so focused on defeating the spirit that he didn't notice how tired he was.
