A man pulled his donkey driven cart just behind a building. He stepped down to greet a woman standing in front of the door along with a few more people standing behind her.
"Here are your barrels, Madam, just as you ordered." He offered her a meek smile while untying the ropes which kept the cargo in place within the cart.
The women in turn ordered the people standing behind her to,
"Check every one of those barrels. I will not accept any barrel that is leaking."
People did as ordered and started checking all the barrels one by one while the porter stood holding the reign of his donkey, watching silently. He had done his job and now waited patiently for the payment. He was offered water while he waited along with some food too. The lady ordering people right now was also the bar owner. She was nice like that. Tough in business yet caring for workers and their well being.
“All good, boss.” A worker hollered at the boss lady while standing on the cart.
“Then get them down to the cellar and be very careful with them.”
Her workers started to unload the barrels carefully while she turned her attention towards the porter waiting beside the donkey.
“The delivery slip?” She asked him to which the porter quickly brought out a couple of unevenly folded papers from his waistband and handed it to her.
She unfolded the papers and gave a thorough look over before pulling out her seal and stamping both of them with it. The boss lady handed one of the papers back to the porter while keeping another one with her. She signalled to one of her employees who swiftly walked forward and handed the porter something wrapped in a sealed brown paper. The porter, without opening the seal, put it within a lock box in his cart, hidden under his seat. It was not his place nor was he allowed to open the sealed packet ever.Once the barrels were all unloaded, the porter got back on his cart and drove away.
Inside, her staff were busy preparing the bar and the bar owner walked around supervising her people after picking up the barrel delivery. She was in her mid forties and can walk shoulder to shoulder with most men yet had an youthful look to her. After years of hard work, she had made a name for herself for running one of the best bars in the city.

Tonight would be an even greater night for her bar. Her bar, Madam Weiser’s Beer Hall, would be hosting a meet and greet with the city’s newest champion, Jann 'O' Bollo. It was the new champion's first public appearance after winning the championship.
"Still can't believe we are hosting the new champion's first appearance. How did you manage to pull this off, boss?" The head cook, a short, chubby man asked the owner, Budina Weiser while learning on the counter top.
Budina smirked a little. Years of being lagging behind those other top bars, she had to pull a lot of strings and burn through a lot of favours accumulated over years just to get the important meeting. The meeting with the O family representative went about as expected. The victors always set a high price for them to capitalise on the high demand. The O family had a set amount in their minds. They wanted 75,000 Rais upfront, 5000 Rais extra for promotion of any self produced drinks and they were non-negotiable terms for them. Her bar served two kinds of beer as their specialty which were in house made, the cold bitter beer and the cold sweet light beer. She had to fork over 85,000 Rais to secure the new champion’s first public meet and greet.
She was optimistic that with the crowning of a new champion after two years, she would recoup that amount paid and then some from the sales generated in one night. She also had to pay for advertising within the city to drum up awareness to the people. Her hope was that she would attract more new patrons on top of regulars who would stick around after tonight. The ultimate goal for this publicity stunt was to drive up the number of new customers for her establishment.
Budina turned towards her head cook and answered, “I have my ways Gordn.”
Gordn smiled and nodded, “That you do boss.”
“Do you have everything you need, Gordn for tonight?” She asked.
“Pantry’s all stacked up just as you ordered and I stored a little extra if we need to prepare for more people.” Her head cook replied.
“Good, tonight is going to be hectic and I don’t want any customer waiting more than fifteen minutes for their food. Keep that in mind.” With that she headed down to the cellar where the mainstay product of the bar was kept… The beer.
In the cellar, two of her workers were busy filling up large clay jugs with beer from the barrels. Each filled clay jug will be placed in a hole in the ground to keep them cool. During service, each jug is pulled up and then sent upstairs where cold beer is served directly from them. Jugs marked with red were being used to store the bitter flavoured beer, the more traditional beer and jugs marked with blue were being used to store the sweet flavoured light beer. The sweet light beer was her best product and patrons loved to guzzle up jugs of it.
She had ordered twenty barrels of beer, ten for each type. Budina had calculated, each barrel fills up five of her large clay jugs and ten pints of beer can be poured out of each of these jugs so she should be able to handle the thirst of a thousand people. Even though a thousand patrons in one night is an absurd number to expect, she expected around half that number for tonight’s event. After all, there was no guarantee that all the people coming to the event were going to order something from the bar. Some people will come just to meet the champion and leave. She had also kept a few more barrels back in the factory as reserve, just to be safe.
Budina finished with her inspection and seemed happy with their preparation. They were ready to host the champion and his fans.
