Arcane History of the Upperworld and Arcadia 101 - A brief introduction

Translator

Welcome, young ladies and gentlemen, please take a seat. The lesson will start in a moment; as I'm sure most of you already know, this is not part of the proper curriculum of the Arcane History course, but it's preparatory for anyone about to start their first year at the Accademia d'Arancia. I am Cornelio Geremia Gottwald, your teacher for Arcane History and Basics of the Arcane as well as the administrator for any formal feedback from the first years, which means that if you have anything to ask about your courses, teachers, or living quarters you can refer to me, just as well as any of my assistants.

To start our first lessons I would like to tell you about what we know regarding the Upperworld and its origins, which we know mostly thanks to divine revelations from the Sultan.

Our world is dominated by a force that we call Fato or fate. Fato is considered by most philosophers and archmages as the will of the universe to exist, something that dictates the laws of physics just as well as our cultures and thirst for power and life.

Fato is the flame that keeps us alive and fuels evolution, it is the source of your compulsions, your interests, and your will to live and explore.

Time, space, and mana are all considered as an extension of Fato, parts of the whole that flows naturally into each other and whose course we can hardly alter.

How Fato came into existence, whether from nothing or from something else, is definitively outside of the scope of my lessons, especially today, but we do know that at some point in existence, a being was created as the incarnation of Fato, someone who we currently consider as the first of the gods, The Shining One, or Splendente.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

The Splendente created a spark, an extremely dense point in space that started expanding more and more, into our current universe, dividing itself into the spheres, or Domini, one of which we currently live in; our Dominio is called Arcadia.

Arcadia itself is also divided in numerous planets and stars, to whom you will take a closer look at with your Astrology course, including ours, the Upperworld, or Sopramondo.

Life started in the Upperworld as the Shining One created the four Grand Spirits of Nature: Flamma, the spirit of fire, was the firstborn and they filled the planet with boiling lava, they heated the planet and prepared it for their brothers and sisters;

Gressa, for the earth, was the secondborn and the one to create a crust over the boiling dominion of Flamma, with mountains and unending brown and yellow valleys, soon to be colored by the last two siblings;

Iride, the spirit of water, was the third to come to life, and thanks to her, the rain started to fall from the sky while the Upperworld was painted blue and green;

Anema, for the winds and the air, was the last one, creating gasses and storms, together with Iride.

Together the four spirits created a paradise for the Shining One, full of plants, rivers, and oceans but they wanted more, they wanted their sons and daughters to populate the colorful orb that they prepared, and so the Shining One created eight vessels out of light and darkness, for the Spirits to shape.

Flamma created the Djins and Geanies, fast and violent yet warm and loving like fire, Gressa the Karad and the Seths, wise and strong but slow and unforgiving, Iride breath life into the Ralek and the Murili who lived by the sea and hunted in the dark of the abyss, Anema shaped the Siliq and the Tarriel who lived high on the mountains, near the sky and the clouds.

We will take a closer look into all of these eight tribes in future lessons.

Well, this should be enough for today, I will hang here for as long as possible to answer to your questions and hopefully tomorrow we will talk about how the Six Gods came into being and how the humans arrived on the Upperworld.
